Alina Zagitova

Hey, guys, I’m new here, but I wanna ask your opinion. Do you guys think that the new rules against the backloading, +/-5 GOE and difficult jumps with less BV will benefit Zhenya over Alina?
Since Zhenya will train with Orser, I think her technique will improve a lot and at the same time Alina won’t have that much of bonus points for the backloading (if the rule really changes).
Also, Zhenya wins with the PC side all the time. I’m worried about that.

One thing to keep in mind is that Alina is also going to improve her artistry, presentation and performance quality this season. There is a difference between 15 and 16 maturity wise. This will be her second senior season. She has already experienced the highest high (OG) and lowest low (Worlds) this past season. She has toured and performed with her skating idols. The best of the best. She has worked with different choreographers in the ice shows. All of these factors will work in her favor towards improving her PCS.

Also she has had a front row seat to all of the unbelievable DRAMA generated by WADA, IOC, RusFed, Sambo, Eteri, Zhenya, TAT, the Russian media, and whoever else. I am exhausted just thinking about it. She has stayed out of it, maintained the appearance of serenity through it all, and basically won people over. I would imagine that she has gained some valuable insight into the 'process' of it all that will serve her very well.

All I'm trying to say is that I think Alina is going to grow exponentially as an artist and a person. We really haven't seen anything yet. She skated two beautifully choreographed ballet themed routines. I loved both of those routines, but I think she can do so much more.

Yeah, I totally agree with you. We haven’t seen the new programs yet, but I’m very optimistic. Obviously, Alina grew up lot with new experiences from ice show (she never did before), worlds and OG. But I’m still worried about the fact that if the rules changes she will loose the advantage on the TES mark that she has now over the others (and particularly Zhenya improving her technique with the new +/- GOE thing)

I understand. If Alina stagnates and puts out DQ and BS again (or two programs just like them) then I think she might have trouble getting the PCS she needs to remain on top.

But she has an advantage unique to her in that it's only her second senior season. She can show the judges an entirely new version of Alina Zagitova that they haven't seen before. She's 16. She doesn't have to be the music-box ballerina anymore. Lose the tutus, take the hair out of the bun, (It might even be worn down or loosely tied back for POTO!) skate with more emotion, more maturity, more 'story-telling' more range.

The judges will be expecting tech perfection from Alina (barring injury or growth complications). But none of us really know what she is capable of artistically just yet. She's had so much amazing life experience and emotional growth. I can't wait to see how it translates into her new performances.

She has the potential to blow people away. I know not everyone is thrilled with POTO, but I can see her portraying a beautiful, vulnerable girl performing brilliantly under the influence of a magical spell.... I think PCS wise she can close the gap and be competitive with anyone. This is just my opinion.

Danill, this is on you, my friend. You've got this. Do not screw it up.

Something else to consider regarding the possible rule change taking away Alina's advantage - Alina skated the most technically difficult free program possible last season. Everyone was shocked. Tara, Johnny, Kurt, British Eurosport guys. No one had ever seen it done quite like that before. And she did it perfectly. ('Perfect-er' to quote Tara.)

So maybe they change the rules. Think how much easier it will be for Alina to upgrade her tech content and quality of execution now that she isn't having to place all of her jumps at the end of her program in order to compete for the Olympic Gold. Think how much more focus and attention she will able to give to performing, connecting with the audience/judges, emoting, telling a story and really 'feeling' her skate with all of heart.

She did a great job of embodying Kitri and the Black Swan. I don't want anyone to think I am being dismissive of those programs, but I look forward to seeing her do so much more.

Hopefully, her technique serves her well throughout her growth and maturity and she can add whatever difficulty she needs to upgrade her scores accordingly.

Also remember that Alina's PCS was very close to Zhenya's, even if some haters grumbled. And I doubt that Zhenya would grow technically much now. If so, it is long-distance run. Of course there is a lot unknown variables. If or how will rules change, how the programs will be designed etc. After all, I do not think we have to wory about Alina's positive GOE. Although it is interresting that programs are already prepared and the final rules changes are still unknown (only assumed/estimated).

I wouldn't worry about that, in Toronto, we have world renown donut and famous Tim Horten, I doubt if she can still jump in 3 months...Look at the body shape of our police, you can easily sense what I mean.

And Iriska )) And we must not forget Zefirka's opinion ))

I think Zefirka is going to be the one to put some real sense into this debate :laugh2:

On a serious note, as been said by others before me here, what a great guy. Alina is a chip out of the old block, he has a ton of character and the coolest head ever.

Now I am not only bored at work I am craving coffee and donuts.....

Evgenia improving her technique will not change her scores because 1. she was already scored as if she doesn't have to fix anything 2. her PCS is almost at maximum. Did you know that she actually outscored Alina in GOEs (i know, it's weird...by over a point) in the olympics, and at the same time her PCS is (3pts) higher. Alina won with her BV.
Alina still can improve the presentation and if she gets consistent +GOEs, she can improve her TES as well without increasing her BV, because looking at Evgenia's GOEs, Alina's can still go up. Though I'm really excited to see her layout next season. If the "Zagitova Rule" comes through, it would decrease her BV by about ~1.5 pts. Whether this is huge or not, it depends. So I don't think this rule will be obviously beneficial for one skater over the other.

Toronto is an incredibly safe city for one of its size. We're regularly voted as one of the best cities to live in for a number of reasons.

Our officers are also very well compensated for the inherent risk in their jobs - many make over $100k in Ontario.

It's not that bad. The city is actually quite safe in general. Think about that, police in Toronto can easily make more than $100,000 per year, which is comparable to managerial level salary in general public.

Seriously, I don't know how she does it. They say she crumbles under pressure but there's a toughness in this girl.
