Alina Zagitova

I find the Vogue photo both creep and funny... I hope she shrugs and laughs off people's reactions to it and just focuses on doing her best. It's really not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

Thinking about how Zagitova is skating against Kostner who is going to her 4th Olympics who skated against Slutskaya who went to 3 Olympics... if I had to bet on a Russian woman's skater to be competitive for 3-4 Olympic cycles(through 2030... maybe even 2034) I would bet on Zagitova.

This is a risky bet ....she seems very fragile and the Russian junior ladies are really very competitive.

If it was Medvedeva I would't worry. But Alina is much more (mentally) delicate and a salvo of malicious comments would be a big problem for her. I just hope the rest of the photoset is way more normal and even if there are some creepy pics, they won't be published. Any serious buzz because of this photo/photos would be the worst thing for Alina.

Considering the upcoming crop, being competitive even in 2022 would be quite the achievement, and especially as an even better crop should arrive just in time for 2026, predicting success until 2030 is optimistic. Considering when skaters tend to peak, that's a very ambitious timeline for her in my opinion.

In my opinion, she's very fortunate to be able to compete in 2018 with the state of Russian skating where it is, so she should take full advantage of this opportunity.

Yep. One could likely shrug that off and for some it might not really be a big deal, but Alina herself I don't think is one of those who can handle things like that all that well, at least at this point in time. Another reason why I don't think something like that was a good idea, by the way.

Wow, I just saw the Vogue photo. Whoever came up with this idea should be ashamed. Couldn't they find teenage models atleast? And why did her parents/grandma agreed to this sexualizing photoshoot?

Poor Alina, she'll receive so much attention after the Olympics....including the attention of creepy male "fans" who will flood her instagram. I still remember all the nasty comments Julia received.

Julia was a child. And Alina is defenitely hot. This is true. BUT in real life Alina speaks and communicates like not 15 but 12-13 year old girl. I speaked to her several times this year.

This is the problem: I think it's a contradiction between what her body might indicate to some and what her personality is... Nevertheless, I never perceived her as being a sex bomb.
Giving the fact that you had the opportunity to meet her, maybe you can tell us how she is, what kind of personality she has....

She seemed to me younger than she is. And she likes attention to her. But because Alina is mentally young she doesnt know how to communicate with fans. So in case of meeting with her fans she is just smiling. But she is very friendly after all.
Sorry if my English is ugly:biggrin:

Thanks for the report. I really appreciate it :agree:
How is she with the other skaters? Sometimes she looks not very socially engaged with them, as yesterday night at the draw...

What's so different between Alina and 15 years old Julia? Their bodies? As you said yourself, Alina can't even communicate properly. Julia was more mature at that age.

Maybe it's the matter of an individual taste, but she's not to me... To me she is like a butterfly that suddenly appeared over an ice float. She's cute and delicate. Even fragile, vulnerable. Especially because she seems so stressed while skating. Alina looks a bit more grown up than an avarage 15-year-old girl, but it doesn't change much to me. I hate that oversexualisation concept anyway...

Alina is also a child. She isn't that much older than Julia when she was in Sochi

It's because of thoughts like that one that pictures like this are made.
It doesn't matter what "many teenagers" are doing. It doesn't matter what Alina might think or do in her PRIVATE life as a teenage girl. She's a top athlete and should've been treated as such, not as a sexualized object.
OK-OK, so now I'm the one to be blamed and damned. But it's just your and others opinion, remember that. And don't put the guilty tags. Where did I say that I applaud to this photoset?
Call me traditional, whatever.

Yes, it wasn't published yet, only on internet, maybe, there were some negative comments regarding the photo not herself, of course.
Alina's thread on the Russian skating forum has been suspened by moderators today...
And even on a big sport portal sports.ru there's a very negative article about this one photo. Lots of negative comments below as well. Fortunately people are blaming mainly the photog.

So, some buzz actually is happening. I just hope Alina will avoid a malicious remarks volly from her closer background. She has such an important skate ahead...

I'm sorry to hear that and i'm actually surprised that this happens. Do you mean the Russian forum fso?
I hope she'll not be affected, but it's better to learn sooner than later how to manage her image.

I'm confused about her state of mind after the draw. She seemed very isolated. I don't know if she usually behaves like this or it is just a follow-up at the picture or maybe other issues we aren't aware of?
Did you read something about how she did at today's practice?
