At one time I was a card carrying member of the ohgodpleasenotcarmen club. I have since cancelled my membership and am enthusiastically awaiting the competitive debut of Carmengitova. After reading the interview and learning that it was something Alina always wanted to skate to, I am even more excited to see her getting this opportunity.

I assumed Carmen was being assigned to her by her coaches like a role in a play. Knowing that skating to it is her wish being granted changes my perspective. The audience might be tired of 'warhorses', (I know I am) but they mean something different to the skater. Getting the chance to play the role of a lifetime, and portray the character on the ice. I can't wait to see what she brings to it as the season progresses.

I didn't like the idea to skate on Carmen, but her Carmen is really good... I really like it at the test skates although it's unpolished and there were mistakes.
 
I actually really like Carmen so far. Which is pretty surprising since I was enthusiastically steering the ”NOCARMENOMGHOWDAREYOU“ boat on. :biggrin: POTO still isn‘t my taste simply because of those... yes, I‘ll say the dreaded words ... music cuts. :shocked: No, just kidding, the cuts are horrible but Alina‘s skating is lovely so I will survive. :laugh:

oh thanks :agree: i cannot stay a carmen hater when Alina herself seems so happy to skate to that music. I think the only thing worse than an ugly music choice is a music choice the skater does not feel or enjoy skating to. Since she has wanted to skate to carmen for a long time, i trust that she'll pull us in and own it.
Since she mentioned Katarina Witt, i just imagined her showing up on the ice with heavy dramatic eye makeup like Katarina's! :laugh:

I tend to agree. There's a possibility that she might not have won, and that would have been frustrating to Alina. Competition in Germany will be much less. I want her to start the season stress-free and with no crying!

Well, today I read all the 50 pages in the Russian Ladies thread from yesterday and today and honestly, I got such a headache like I have drunk 3 bottles of vodka :D

And the season has just started!

By the way, I wonder how Olga manages to make all the costumes of the Tutberidze girls for one summer. She must be making a costume for max. 5 days, how is that even possible with all the details?

I don't call it the Evgenia/Alina fan wars either (as some have referred to these posts)

Judging by a lot of the posts and posters, I would call it the Eteri/Brian Orser fan wars.
IMHO anyways.

Alina appreciates icons of the sport....

I was watching Katarina Witt, by the way, how she skated to Carmen and I took something from her. I really enjoyed watching her.

There were also Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. They’ve gone through several Olympic cycles and they are an example for me now.

Reason #9,999,999 of why I love Alina.
