Alina Zagitova

it's dumb as hell tbh! there's no correlation between the two. figure skating fs is a mess! people seem to think being edgy is cool lol i mean this forum tends to be a mess too but twitter is just something else!

(notice how that Ilona girl is leading the movement of comparing yuzuru's scores to alina's, as expected :palmf:)

Social Media at its worst. Don't try to call these "snowflakes" on their BS.
Then its all "Wah Wah Wah don't be mean to me"

BTW I didn't know that Alina was competing against Yuzuru Hanyu :scratch2: :confused2:
Never mind a triple axel - she'd better start working on the 4A!

BTW - I haven't seen too many bad comments, only from a few "twits" - but I have blocked a few people in the past, so I am probably missing some.

I think we are all just so relieved that she didn't find a way to slaughter Alina's performance or passive-agressively dish out her usual back handed compliments. What TAT said sounded border-line fair and reasonable compared to what we've been getting. Granted she couldn't have set the bar much lower than - Alina wins Gold medal at Olympic Games. TAT weeps uncontrollably on National Television and says she wanted Zhenya. :sad4:

And she hasn't really redeemed herself from that moment. Alina just didn't give her anything today that she could get her claws into.:taunt:

It's just the beginning of the season. We've got months of TAT inflicted irritation to look forward to. It's coming. I'm sure of it. But we will get through it together. :ghug:

I like to think that in some way, TAT's comments after the test skates lit a fire under Alina for this competition.
Who knows for sure, but could be.

I actually found her interview today very complimentary and informative.

But winter is figure skating time! Why do you all dislike winter? :( And especially that you dare to compare it to TAT... nyet! Winter has snow and snowmen and cookies and Christmas and evenings with a book and a blanket on the couch next to the fireplace... what does TAT have in comparison? Winter > TAT!

TAT > blizzard with 2 feet of snow.

By the way, I realized that surprisingly our public TV noticed there is JGP event in Czech Republic and they are broadcasting JGP from Ostrava. And the commentary made me appreciate Ted even more than before
I don't say commentators are bad, they even appreciated Alëna how she handled the rest of the program after she popped 2A (and praising russian athlete in our TVs is something really very, very rare), but they just lack Ted's positivism.

No one beats him! Ted is the hottest thing in FS right now (next to Alina and Sasha I dare say):laugh:

I think "positivism" means something else though. :scratch2:

No need to pick on judges and other skaters there are plenty such comments on youtube and internet if someone gets satisfaction from them feel free to go read them.

On the actual skating, I'm more convinced now that she increased the coverage and height on her lutz and flip. I don't know if it comes from training or her natural growth, most likely both. Anyway, this is something promising, she can improve more.

Spins were good, small travel on the illusion one, but overall quite good for so early. I think she has been slightly delayed with the musical accent on the flip, compared to show (this one comes to my mind) and that lost a bit of the WoW factor.

Step sequence: I like it, goes well with the music, she covers the entire rink (length) with some serpentine moves at some points. Maybe a little bit more width coverage will be good as well. Speed relatively good throught out.

Presentation wise she was nervous, I think you can sense it. With time and more practice she will overcome it.

I noticed about the same thing about the flip (both in her SP and the video of the practice).

I'd actually look forward to Eteri commentating. She has a colorful way of speaking and I suspect a great sense of humor. She always makes her skaters laugh before they go out.

All real things Eteri has said or done:

"7.5 spins? You need 8. If you can't count, do 8.5"

"This coat makes me look like a homeless child."

"Someone take that plushy toy away from her, it's covering up the Rostelecom logo on her Team Russia jacket!"

And nr.1 in this top

I send Alina and Zhenya to the ballet, they must lose their virginity

I mean positivity, we are not in lessons of philosophy or logic, I understand

TAT motivational speeches will carry Alina all the way to the 2019 World Championship Gold Medal! I'm calling it now!

After she wins I will post a thank-you tribute post for TAT. Somebody remind me when the time comes. ;)

Her interview today was not bad at all.....but.....#neverforget.

I noticed that too about the F, more apparent today because of the camera angle, and about the 3Lz+3Lo too. She gets incredible height on that Loop and doing that jump on the back of a combo is, like, the hardest thing ever. Fully rotating it is hard beyond words, the taller you are apparently the harder that particular jump gets. That said Junhwan is doing it too in his FS (only men I believe) and he got the same scores she did for it at Autumn Classic, being short is not something he can claim.

I guess all the hard work they've been doing to get all her jumps going and stable under her new height is paying off big time.

Of all the programs skated today, I keep coming back to Alina's. It's great to see her looking like the Olympic champion she is, and I didn't even mind the crazy music cuts. She makes it work so well.
