Alina Zagitova

Aye, aye!

If the ice was bad today, the pop was due to this and not Alina having problems with her nerves! So if this ice issue is getting fixed until tomorrow there will be an even better chance Alina will rock. That‘s what my totally not professional analysis is saying anyway.

Agree, for such a difficult combo as 3Lz+3Lo, a slippery ice can be that factor that compromises the successful landing of it, especially during competition when nerves are also an important factor.

So..the ice is totaly the one to blame for this.:biggrin:

(getting sentimental in my old age) Thanks you guys for keeping this fan fest such a positive place with lots of friendly banter! :)

This competition is giving everyone lots of new avatars! This picture is really beautiful, I love her Ina Bauer, it‘s really a special moment! :)

I‘m thinking about changing my profile picture... everyone is upgrading from DQ Alina to POTO Alina... And I also use a new pic from Zhenya for my avatar... But I just love this picture of Alina from her DQ so much. Difficult decision. Maybe I‘ll change it after amazing Carmengitova tomorrow. Then it will still be a beautiful girl in a beautiful red dress on my profile! :)

Yup. It can totally throw one of balance and result in losing the momentum needed for the 3Lo. So, no fault from Alina at all.

I hope they fix it for tomorrow, though. Then nothing will stay in her way to a perfect, clean skate like she had at Nebelhorn!!

Fluture I am sure you will find an amazing photo for your avatar...you will feel it when you see The One.

Alina has beautiful lines, so every photo taken during her performance is gorgeous :luv17:

Yep. It‘s pretty hard balancing between my two favourite active skaters - Zhenya and Alina but I decided that this season it will be Alina for the profile picture and Zhenya for avatar. Next season it will be the other way round. So it‘s fair for both! ( :palmf: at the things I‘m worrying about but I just love both of them so much...) I will wait for THE Alina picture for my profile, you‘re right! I hope I‘ll find it soon! :luv17:

Alina must be every photographer’s dream! She‘s just so beautiful and her lines during positions like the Ina Bauer or Charlotte Spiral really look special!

I love your new avatar as well egoshina.

But....
unfortunately poor Iriska's 15 minutes of fame as a GS avatar are over. :(

Iriska will come out again! she's not a one time wonder, she's here to stay! (but Alina's Ina Bauer will come out during competitions)

Hopefully. Masaru is getting all the fame and poor Iriska is pushed out of the spotlight. It‘s not her fault she‘s always grumpy... :(

Hello dear Alina fans!

Today I had an unforgettable day together with my friend in Helsinki - the best part was seeing Alina live once again.
It was a usual competition with numerous Japanese in the audience but I spotted some Russians and I even went to talk personally to the two nice Russian ladies who were with the banners (you saw them on the live steaming, I guess). The Japanese and the Finnish people were also very supportive. I was screaming so loudly that my friend and the spectators around me had the suspicion that I am totally crazy. :D

So, let me start with the warm-up. I couldn't exactly be sure from this distance if the girl in the front at the boards was Alina but I guessed right - that energetic fireball warming up and hopping non-stop couldn't be anyone but Alina. :D

When she and the other skaters took the ice, I gasped. I saw her POTO costume live for the first time and it was surprisingly sparkling and beautiful under the lighting and in contrast to the ice. Just beautiful.

She jumped so well, I filmed almost all of her jumping passes and I love her system for warming-up - gradually upgrading technical difficulty and some small 'rituals' of hers, like doing the 3Lz-3Lo combo directly on the ice surface like twizzles... This combo was just breathtaking and so spectacular, especially taking into account our good position at this corner where she jumps it usually. She was flawless in her practice session. Funnily, a Russian lady near us in the audience shouted 3 times different supporting messages to Alina when the stadium was quiet (maybe you heard her) - she said in Russian: Alina, we are with you, later Alina, you are the best and shortly before her program: Alina, you are a Queen. :D It was so funny and I like how the lady had no fear to scream so loudly. :D I wanted to shout as well but my friend said he would be quite embarrassed if I do it so it didn't. But to be honest, I was tempted to shout 'Eteri Georgievna, you're so cool!' :DDD

When Alina started, I hardly could breathe. I skipped a heart beat when she popped the loop and I even feared I jinxed it at that moment, I was too excited for the combo and then it just didn't happen... but I kept watching with a hope of her making up for it later. She did the rest great and I am happy that she managed to keep her composure till the end. The last seconds were heartbreaking to me as they showed her face in close-up - her disappointment and sadness were obvious and I really wanted to hug her at this moment. The audience was really supportive of her.

She had some luck because of Kaori's meltdown but despite the mistake, her program was the most detailed and intricate among all the ladies from today's competition. I believe she will focus on her free and do her best! I can't wait to watch Carmengitova tomorrow!

I posted something in Russian on Insta for Alina, wishing her good luck for tomorrow. I hope she reads my or some other supportive words and believes in herself again!

Greetings from Helsinki and have a good night!

I remember a competition from a couple of years ago where there was actually a small pool of water near one corner of the rink.
Not sure what caused it, or even the competition.

I wonder if any else remembers that?

It was the Grand Prix in France from 2016. I remember it since my heart almost stopped as Evgenia had to jump her 2A-2T-2T over the puddle. You could clearly see the water splashing after her 2A. I think there were a lot of other skaters with falls at that day. :noshake: It's good Alina didn't fall today and I hope that the other competitors, who fell, didn't hurt themselves neither.

Disappointing to see the ice that way. I have only seen that at ice rinks in August when it is sweltering outside!

It also seems the final resurfacing was way too short... they had this ridiculous synchro performance and girls with flags.... it was not twenty minutes of usual time, was it?

Guys, guys, guys.......you made my day.

After my initial posts right after the SP I had to go on a work overload so I missed like 10 / 15 pages of action.

Now I'm all caught up.

You are all truly the best: at being funny, choosing new avatars, pondering on weddings, analyzing programs and cheering for Alina.

TheBallerina and egoshina, I see you!!! I see you and I like you!!

I have great personal news: due to my extreme personal investment in Alina and incessant talk about this GP in the past 3 hours my husband decided he'll take the kids and go to my Mother-in-Law for lunch on his own. I'll watch Alina tomorrow live for sure. Alina is already saving a marriage (maybe arranging a few too  count on me for the champaign as suggested by TheBallerina).

Figure Skating Competitions are a rollercoaster emotional ride, when you are really invested, like we all are with Alina, even more so. I'm taking deep breaths and wishing her to be calm and happy tomorrow. Overthinking is not what she should do, she has to trust herself and see what we all see: that she is the greatest skater out there. Let it happen girl.

Her signature combo is here to stay, and of the three people currently performing it in competition on the circuit (Cha and Bradie are the other two) she is the super consistent one. This is probably as hard as a 3A, a different kind of hard but hard, there is a reason that, before she showed up, it wasn't attempted left and right like some of the other 3-3 combos. Which are also hard btw.

But you know what's harder: getting top placement on a SP without a 3-3 in today's field. And she earned every bit of her PCS and GOE's, and that invalid 1Lo cost her 3 points on the 3Lz (her -5 GOE tabbed onto the 3Lz value meant she ended up with the same score value for that element as the BV of her LSp4). And it cost her on PCS too, she should have gone above 9 in all counts on my book, her program performance and delivery were great I wouldn't have given her under 9 in anything here, specially the Transitions score.

But, like her Lara Croft she survived and now it is time to thrive.

I wish Alina a great Carmengitova tomorrow, be calm and have fun, when she is having fun (like at Japan Open) greatness just flows right out of her.

Alina's interview
She talks about the reason for her combo error: I felt not confident enough. But it's fine, I will have something to aim for. I have experience, I will learn to fight it.

She snaps when pressed again with "but you did so well in practice" - we are not machines, to skate clean all the time. I was slightly more nervous, was not entirely focused, was like in a fog. I need to get it together.
I started being nervous a week ago and I think this had an impact.
we will need to discuss it with coaches.

When asked whether her OGM status puts a pressure on her, she replied that no, she had already proved everything to herself and just wants to enjoy skating.

about the tapes - it's nothing
growth question again (I think babies are not measured that often and their parents do not get asked this question that often!!!)

(tbc)

What did she score on her short program?

What happened did she fall?

68.90. She popped the 3Lo into a single on her 3Lz-3Lo combo.
A costly error - this cost her about 10 points on her score.
Everything after that was just fine.
