Alina Zagitova

They talk about “Harry Radix brooch” , but I didn’t find any information.

He was a boss of US fed from 1935 —1965

This is the only thing I could find from a Skating Magazine article with John Coughlin in 2012

The way I read it, this pin is for US skaters who medal at US Champs, Worlds, Olympics.

I really don’t know its a true story or not ..

Google translate

After the death of Radix, the tradition has not stopped, it continues to support the Federation of United States figure skating. But the presentation of the brooches ceased to be solemn (Oleg Vasilyev, the Olympic champion in 1984 and the two-time world champion, told us that he and Elena Grossova had already given this ridge to the next season after the victory, almost in the corridor of the hotel for athletes they shoved a box with a brooch in their hands), and the diamonds on the ridge for the champion noticeably diminished ... But The American Federation of figure skating decided to remind loudly about this tradition, intending solemnly to hand over the “Radix Brooch” at the press conferences of the winners and prize-winners. Olympic tournament in Pkhenchkhane. However, representatives of the International Olympic Committee cooled the ardor of the Americans: no activity of organizations not licensed by the IOC in the Olympic entourage is impossible. So, Radix’s brooches, Alyona Savchenko and Bruno Masso, were not presented at the press conference. Perhaps this will happen at the US Olympic House.

"I quite agree with your detective work" (opposed Fargo quote)

I was now knee deep into the USFSA's site trying to find what the H were "radic pins" (on second repeated hearing that's what the first couple of words out of the guys mouth sounded, senselessly like). Little golden blades got me nowhere also. I did find out they have a bunch of awards for US figure skaters for various achievements, which makes sense since, you know, they are the US Fed.

My sweet friend Dorothy Hamill, in her autobiography, has this quote about them: "When I was a competitive skater with no money, I had developed an earnest appreciation for jewelry by earning the treasured Radix pins. These were gold pins in the shape of a skating blade and given by the USFSA to the American medal winners at Nationals, Worlds, and the Olympics. The first place gold pin had diamond beautifully positioned in the toe pick and was engraved with out tittle, placement and category. I had earned nine of these pins and was very proud of them"

So...maybe our unintelligible friend was reading said autobiography.

I'm sure Alina would love these blades, she can pick them right up along with her American Citizenship at the Moscow consulate, or, better yet, maybe this guy can convince Dorothy to donate one of her 9 blades to Alina.

Alina so happy running for the flag then sharing it with Konstantinova.

Then inviting Kaori to come near with the Japanese flag.

Oh this victory ceremony was wonderful.

ISU could have risen to the occasion with some better medals, these plastic coasters for the GP series are not doing it. I guess acrylic is the new metal.

Happiness though is real gold. Seeing Alina happy is my gold medal. Tomorrow at the Gala we will see more of it.

What happened? Did Alina win the gold as expected and Stasya medal?

"I quite agree with your detective work" (opposed Fargo quote)

Alina asks USFS honcho - "Where is my Radix Pin????"

USFS honcho - "well, I need to go and do a pin count"

Alina - "Oh for Pete's Sake, He's fleeing the interview!!!! He's fleeing the interview!!!!"

:rofl::laugh2:

And she could also say: "I'm a Grand Prix Final Winner, National Champion, European Champion, Olympic Silver Team Medalist and Olympic Individual Gold Medalist. So I'm due 5 pins by my count."

She could make at least a bracelet with her loot. See American Citizenship is starting to become more attractive by the minute, guys should put that on the folder they're sending to her entitled "please embrace the one headed, white haired, eagle".

When Lyudmila Belousova and Oleg Protopopov, almost three decades after their flight abroad, came to St. Petersburg in 2005, they struck not only their beautiful sports the form, despite the fact that they were great for 70, but also an unusual detail of the decoration of their costumes: Oleg had 10 golden brooches in the form of a skate blade for figure skating, on the lapel of his jacket, decorated with diamonds, while Ludmila’s golden skates were strung on a chain, forming an elegant necklace. Your correspondent recalled that the autobiographical book of Belousova and Protopopov was called: “Golden Skates with Diamonds”, which I asked Oleg Alekseevich. “Well, yes, these skates symbolize our achievements,” he replied. “This is a token of appreciation from a American who handed such brooches to the winners and prize-winners of the World, European and Olympic Championships.” Recall that Belousov and Protopopov are four-time world and European champions and two-time Olympic champions.

:taunt:

Americans..Alinka needs a money for apartment in Moscow, so please.. no more bla bla bla

Haven't read any of the comment yet but I HAVE to relay my story to you guys.
So my big sister is visiting, whom I haven't seen in person for almost 2 years and she was supposed to arrive at approximately the time of Alina's skate. So I told my husband - I do not care, but it is you who opens the door, welcomes her and her husband, and explains why I am glued to my laptop and cannot say hi.

Of course, she arrive right in the middle of Alina's skate. I was firm - I finished watching (god that was scary but I was brave and so was Alina but 1000 times more brave), got the scores and only then I turned around to welcome my sister. :)))

And only now I have the time to finally read all the comments you guys produced and rewatch Alina's skate and have a look at protocols and all that...

(Are we allowed to talk about the competition now? Kaori! My husband had to produce a steady supply of tissues as I was crying like a baby...)
