Alina Zagitova

Hi guys! Today was quite the eventful day! My friend and I just got back to the hotel and had a healthy dinner from McDonalds :D

We went to the training session of the ladies and it was very interesting to watch how Alyona and Alina were warming up - gradually increasing the difficulty of the jumps until they reach 3A /3Lz3Lo. I made a few blurry photos so it isn't worth uploading them but it was nice seeing the skaters from so close.

During the pairs training I accidentally bumped into Alina! She was in a hurry, carrying her luggage and going down some stairs - I just shouted 'Alina' and waved happily and she stopped for a second, looked back to me and then kept going. I think she was pretty much focused on the coming competition and that's why she ignored everything around her, which is probably a good strategy.

Then the competition started. The men were not perfect but I quite enjoyed them. The Ice dance was pretty good.

Then... GUYS guess what! I got interviewed by 1tv!!! About Alina!!!!
It was thanks to one sweet Russian who told the reporter that I was from Bulgaria! They asked me why Alina is my favourite skater, how do I support her etc. I don't know if my part will be broadcast but I hope it would be.
The other Team Zagitova fans were really nice and friendly! I felt warmth in this little group that met in the resurfacing pause.

Then...the ladies! Alyona was angelic. The 3A was like flying! I thought the marks were pretty low, then I saw the outrageous protocols. Same for Alina, the 3Lz3Lo seemed normal to me and then those marks came and this ruined a bit the mood for me. But you know what, I am sure that Team Tutberidze will get fired up for the free skate tomorrow and they both will do perfectly.

That’s so cool!! Hopefully you can meet Alena or Alina after their free programs!!

Love your report :thank: You are so lucky you get to see Alina and Aliona live! I hope you get to meet them after the FS. Didn't you get to pose with Alina once and Eteri took the picture? I agree- they will both be fired up tomorrow and hopefully skate their best.

I'm a little disappointed in Alinas score. Last season that would have been 78 points or more not 74 like today.

Thank you Bewitched for that great report. Have fun tomorrow.

Humble and graceful baby Alina, she never ever complains, she always says she’ll work harder!
It’s ok, it was her first real competition after a long break, but I’m glad she said she enjoyed performing.
The judging seems way too harsh (and wrong) for me personally, but on the other hand, we saw another beautiful performance by Alina, and that’s all that matters!

I don't know if it's the programs or whatever, but I'm loving how relaxed Alina look nowadays.
Gone are the stressed-out look of last season.

Gone are the stressed-out look of last season.

A complex of reasons, I'd think, could there ever again be such a year as last? the constant, distant, nagging drone of "doubters" (relatively few in number but disproportionately loudmouthed), body changes, a supremely busy schedule for an OGCh, two beautiful but extremely challenging, dynamic competitive skating programmes, the intensity of focus upon her and constant media glare... no, there was never going to be a tougher season for Alina than last, and when it culminated in the best of all possible outcomes for her, the tenor of this new season was assured. She had borne all that with quiet humility, and triumphed. I believe she is now truly at peace and reaping the inner rewards of her years of efforts and triumphs. (But she's clearly also determined not to rest on her substantial laurels.)

Your part was broadcast!!! :)

Just to echo your words, Alina is even more mesmerising in person than on video. I liked that programme before this competition now I just LOVE it! It was one of the best 2 min 50 sec of my life! (Well, according to the ISU judges Alina extended my pleasure by 1 sec by gracefully putting her hand down after the music finished.)

She looks so confident, composed and calm! She just radiates confidence, that combo error was just a fluke, I'm sure she'll tame it today.

The dress!!! Elegant and sparkly :). Alina looks great in it.

Her performance was so heartfelt! The agony of broken heart reached everyone in the audience I think.
And it was nice to be amongst so many fans of Alina, we'll have a great time tonight! :)

Off to Patinoire Polesud I go, prepared to be mesmerised by Cleopatra :)

Enjoy! and cheer for Alina and Alyona and all the other contestants in the name of all of us :-)

The length of the music itself is NOT important - the time-keeper in the TP clocks the skaters movement, from start to finish. And the time-keeper at the IdF decided to be extra strict to the point of absurdity (and somehow missed an actual time violation by Nathan, for instance).

Agreed, this penalty is close to absurd. What were they playing at? Giving a warning of sorts to Alina and #TeamTutberidzeForProgress not to push the limits of what's allowed under the rules?? I hope FFKKR files an inquiry with ISU about standards and judging practice here. The whole of GP needs to maintain an even standard, so skaters actually get called on their 'real' errors and can learn from it.

Oh Godness.. I saw earlier pic from different engle and it looked at least a bit more flat ... c’mon this is very good edge .. What is the point? They are ruining sport ... Spectactors were in shock after both Alina and Alena score and also Wakaba’s ..No questions why there are debates about FS not being sport .... This is just..

Wow So lucky, you saw both Alena and Alina :)

I’m glad Alina skated with pleasure without pressure. If you compared with her first GPF assignment last year, she was really upset with only 68,90. She finished first but Helsinki was a disappointment.
