Alina Zagitova

For what it is worth, wikipedia has updated Alina's height to 1,61 (one month ago it was 1,56) [emoji2]

How tall is that? Did she grow 10cm in a year? 8? I hope it doesnt hurt her skating and her ability to do the most complex programs in ladies figure skating history.

We have seen her doing Black Swan in that Korean show, smoothless and without hesitation. I'm not worrying about that.

So, if the age for seniors is increased to 17 or 18 years, how will that affect Alina? Will she have to go back to the juniors. :scratch2:

No, and it shouldn't come into effect right away. At least the one discussed by Netherlands back on May 3 or so had it coming into effect for the 2020-2021 season(minimum age 17).

I'd assume that at least everyone who currently is junior eligible shouldn't be affected by it and I hope that that's what they will go with if such a rule would pass(A terrible idea IMO).

She was 151cm in 2017 (accordingly to EdRoz's post). Then 156cm going by her Olys profile which I assume was submitted early 2018. And then 159cm using the "Shoma Uno ruler" at SOI. So she did grow some so I don't think Eteri was unhinged there.

Anyway, most importantly, Alina is growing up to be a beautiful lady. We will never know exactly the velocity she grew at.

I agree with your answer.

I grew 5cm during my 15th year, it's not the most usual thing but each person is different, some women grow until they are 16 (even 17), some stop growing at 12/13, this is very varied, you need X-Rays of people's growth plates to show if they are open or closed to get a good idea of someone's final height after they reach puberty (epiphyseal plate x-rays from the wrist are the most used thing). Her now being 159cm is well within the realm of possibilities (from 151 early 2017/late 2016, to 156 late 2017/early 2018, to 159 in March/April 2018).

Her head is tilted down. Here she is side by side with Zhenya (reported to be 161cm and Kaetlyn 163cm, they are all wearing comparable height sole sneakers).

Nope, she is grandfathered in. The current rule we have was done after Tara Lipinski and she was also grandfathered in at seniors.

If my calculations and the data provided (1,51 in 2017 and 1,61/1,59 in 2018) are correct, that means 10/8 cm in one year. Yes that is quite a lot, but this happened during 1 year (not only in March, how many did not understand after the WC...she was already growing during the Olympics and there she delivered a flawless performance), and in this year her jumps looked better than ever. She was stronger than in her previous years. And all her IS performances from the last month included difficult jumps which were perfectly executed. That's why I mantain my optimism and really hope that she'll keep become stronger and more determined, because until now she really evolved and gained power during a hard year, when she grew so much.
