Alina Zagitova

I start wanting to know you better, may be we can team up to greet Zhenya..lol

From interview with Ilnaz Zagitov
Alina first went to Moscow with her mother ... At first time they lived with friends, did not know if Alina would leave at Sambo 70. The road to the ice rink took two hours in one direction. There was no point to return in the middle of the day , there was still evening training session. Therefore, there, at the ice rink, they rested, and they returned home closer to midnight. And early in the morning again for training ,before the subway it was necessary to go by bus, in the morning buses went badly because of very cold, they waited, froze in the cold. They called me: "We are frozen, there is not a bus for a long time". My heart was broken at that moment. Then, when Alina was left in group, we rented an apartment in Moscow and sent her a grandmother and my wife returned to Izevsk , we had to deal with our youngest daughter

I love hearing about the sacrifices and struggle athletes go through. It makes their successes even sweeter. What a fierce kid and family!

Yes thank you! So missing her first 3L3Loop is the reason for the difference? Even though she added it back?

The difference in tes was mainly because of execution of 3Lz - it was scored 8,6 in team event and 7,1 in individual (as exit was insecure and judges were scared  because they knew it supposed to be combo, so goe were not high). So, it is already 1,5 points of difference. And also 2A - 4,63 in team event and 4,2 in individual. If you download detailed protocols you can compare marks for all elements.

She is one tough kid. I guess this also explains why she is so happy to live 10 minutes walking distance from the rink!

It's completely crazy to think that she came to Moscow at 12/13 without even having all of her triple jumps. Then after dealing with all the commuting hassles, got dismissed by Eteri for not working hard enough (!). Then broke her arm and her leg and had two casts at the same time! Then had to relearn to walk and skate and jump. These are not small problems. Talk about coming back from injuries!

Then Eteri gives her a second chance and she proceeds to win everything at the Junior and Senior level in 2 back to back seasons, then wins the OG! Then she faces all the weirdness from Russia's figure skating elite, the fed, the media, the fans and her own coaches/choreographers with regard to her win, with so much grace!

All this in 3 years and she's not even 16. I can't wait to see what this girl does in her life during the next three years. Whether she continues skating or not it will be something to see!

He also denies that he cried after Alina's victory ...
Alina said on the air: "Dad, do not cry." I did not see, they told me later.
I tell my daughter: "Do not believe, there were no tears."

I still think it's a sweet video where she tells her papa not to cry :)

That quote: "We shouldn't allow juveniles to do double axels because not everybody can do them." Is it about political correctness? :palmf: Overally, from that article it seems like the degradation of U. S. skating is caused by similar restrictions to those that now are proposed as the rule changes. I understand some concerns about the developing, but as he speaks about discouradging juvenile skaters to do harder elements, it reminds me that intended lowering of BV for quads and higher penalization for falls.
I think he was talking about what happened about 10-12 years ago. He thinks that philosophy has put the US at a disadvantage. I liked his comments about when he judged the Junior GP Final and saw firsthand how far behind the US had lagged. My impression is that he tried to correct some of this during his 4 years - especially at the lower levels.

I also remember Alina denying that she shed a single tear in the RT interview. Father and daughter both denying they cried 😂.

No, and it shouldn't come into effect right away. At least the one discussed by Netherlands back on May 3 or so had it coming into effect for the 2020-2021 season(minimum age 17).

I'd assume that at least everyone who currently is junior eligible shouldn't be affected by it and I hope that that's what they will go with if such a rule would pass(A terrible idea IMO).

Yes - also IMO a really bad idea.

It's really amazing that this argument keeps popping up - all the more so in a sport whose 1st superstar was Sonia Henie.

Alina posted an IG story of she and her dad working out together!

Go to the beach!

No true rest for high performance athletes, if you slack off it can take forever to whip yourself back into shape. And she is used to training 6 days a week.

I’m glad she is doing it alongside her Dad and they’re both getting to spend some great time together.

It’s nice to see that she is being so focused, and having fun with it too.

At least the only ice she’s going to see there is inside an orange juice glass.
