Alina Zagitova

You can join us in the Should minimum age for seniors be raised? thread. As would Brian say: We should be struggling together :)

I have posted in there but its an upsetting topic. A 15 year old just had the best debut season in the history of the sport and she handled herself with the most class in the history of the sport. Werent they watching? The isu should be proud of Alina not be spitting on her historic season by raising the minimum age from 15 to 17.

The proposal is upsetting, but I think in that topic it's a decisive victory for us :)

Of course being champion is the goal. But Eteri and all coaches are being strategic for their own chances to win. It’s not as important for her to make each skater the best they can possibly be, it’s her goal to ensure her own students are champions. Let me put it this way: what if Alina had been Buianova’s student? Would Alina’s success, particularly at the beginning of her debut season, have influenced Eteri’s decisions regarding Zhenya’s program? I have to imagine that she would want her skater to have the best shot at winning and would have changed her program to give Zhenya a competitive edge to ensure she had the best chance to win the olympics.

But Eteri didn’t do this because Alina was her own student. She didn’t need to push Zhenya in the same way she would have if the competitive threat had been from someone outside of her team. So there is no need to design and push riskier programs for her top skaters because Eteri still wins when her younger students surpass the older ones. That means that training and design of programs are not necessarily meant to give an individual the best chance at being the best she can be but rather give the coach the greatest chance of overall success. In that sense, she isn’t motivated to “push” new and riskier programs for Alina. Which she likely would if the junior threat existed outside her own program. If all the junior girls decided to leave for another coach you have to imagine she’d be training Alina for quads or at least attempting to train for them.

Not Eteris fault Alina won gold edging Zhenya. Eteri is a coach and she wanted Zhenya to win and Alina get the silver. Alina had other ideas. Zhenya no doubt blames Eteri for Alina takng gold and left. That is sports and life.

Welcome Masaru :love::luv17::love:

Regarding the quads/3A topic, Alina stated in one of the interviews that were posted here earlier, when she was asked what does she want to improve going into the next season, that she wants to work on current jumps consistency and the artistic side of her skating. And I think that is a really mature and smart decision. She has so much potential, artistically speaking, that it'll be really worthy to work more on this field, together with improving her technical consistency

Welcome to Russia Masaru (cue in ISU's signature Russian team introduction theme). Wonder is she'll dance to it.

In honor of the upcoming Royal Wedding...found this oldish picture of Alina with the Russian Team (from Nov, 2017) and she looks beautiful with a flower headband, like a princess indeed.

Sharing it here in case it hasn't been seen before

When will they finally meet? :yahoo:

It's Masaru Eve! Get excited, people!

Iriska is sharpening her claws. The chinchillas are filing their teeth into points. Pooh is heading for higher ground (a nice out of reach shelf) and hopefully taking the rest of the stuffed animals with him. Grandmother is locking up her shoes and purses and any clothing she particularly cares about.

One more day! :yahoo:

I'd add that her treasured IdF Pink Star is saying bring it on https://pasteboard.co/HmP9csn.png but if she chews that Putin framed photo I fear for her life.

The great advantage to the small apartment situation is that Masaru will be very easy to supervise at all times. This is key! Maybe Alina's parents will evacuate the stuffed animals (and anything else they don't want chewed) to their home in Izhevsk to make room for dog toys.

Alina's fans can throw doggie chew toys onto the ice when she skates :)

Yes, chew toys will open up a new gifting universe for Alina’s fans. And clothes and accessories for Masaru too.

I hope her stuffed animal collection will find save haven somewhere (Izhevsk would be a great place).

The small apartment is advantage, eyes (and years) will be on Masaru 24/7.
