Alina Zagitova

Accoring to this tweet - in the press conference she said she would also like to improve her English skills.

That is nice news!! I love to see her taking an interest in English, not for the sake of international competitions or Ice shows (or the TV programs she participates in) because for those she'll always have the availability of an interpreter. But for making friends with the other skaters that would be a plus. Also it is a nice skill to have to speak or understand multiple languages.

She is so wise beyond her 16 years.

Her answers always seem to be well-thought and concise.

Wanting to "pay it forward" with the masterclasses - so other kids will become interested in figure skating.

Also glad to see she is keeping the same elements in her SP (which I assume means the lutz-loop combo is still there!)

EdRoz earlier said that she is basically an introvert, which is probably true.

But every interview, TV appearance, etc... I have seen her do since Olympics - she has handled herself brilliantly and I think it is because she is always true to herself. She doesn't need to invent some "persona" to become popular.

Good example of that - her genuine look of  when "Fake Hanyu" made his appearance on the Japanese game show. Pure TV Gold and so unforced.

A shy person is usually well worth the effort it takes in getting to know them.

Every word of this! She is so genuine it just shines through. And I have found her poise to be commendable, even when she was confronted with questions about Ashley's comments she handled it with some grace.

I want Alina to learn English because....

1) I am too lazy to learn Russian.

2) I want to know the REAL meaning of "the dog smells"

I couldn't agree more.

I think Alina has a lot of poise and she is confident, no matter what has been thrown at her in interviews she always has a firm answer. When she is happy (as with Masaru, on the TV Game Show, shen she got gifts from Japanese TVs) her happiness shines through the screen. She is very genuine and super well educates.

She is not an extrovert chatterbox but she isn't super shy either. I'd call her a more quiet person, in public situations, she is not the "look at me" "hear me" type, but she definitely knows how to handle herself, answers confidently any questions she is asked and you never see her looking for cues from anyone behind a camera on what to do and how to behave. She is confident in the quiet way of someone who knows what they want. For 16 years of age, and though the thick of it (Olympics, etc) a 15 years old, that is a helluva an impressive thing. We have so called celebrities that are that age, or even older than that, that can't behave that well (and they have publicists and private assistants to guide them).

Since she enjoys doing lives and interacting with people (on her terms, like I said, she knows what she wants), I'd say she'd be really interested in making friends with others that share her interests or even her career choice.

:laugh2::rofl: Maybe I can trade her, I want to learn Russian. I tried using the app Duolingo but apparently they don't believe in the "walk before you run" approach as we have to read stuff in Cyrillic since level 0. Well if I wanted to guess at stuff and "fake it till I make it", I'd stick to listening to Alina's interviews without subtitles.

But I'm right with you on 2), oh the joys of speaking another language so well you can get its subtleties.

Advice from Alinka friends how to learn English))

- Alina , how is your English?
- Well, now I know him a little better. For example, girls say that it is not necessary to teach-teach. They have a lot of experience, they traveled to different competitions many times, communicated with foreigners and gradually learned the words. So much easier.

[emoji38][emoji1] I remember reading that somewhere, I’m glad she seems to have changed that approach.

I will admit that I do not personally have a dog nor am I around them much. However, I think I know the smell she's talking about. Pets often have distinct smells, just like humans. And I don't mean bad smells. Just that smell - you go to someone's house and think "yep, a dog lives here."

On a random note, I remember watching an interview with Tom Ford and I remember him saying he loves the smell of his dog's ears :) He says it reminds him of buttered toast! So, these are obscure smells to describe, but are nonetheless very distinct to people. I'm sure Masaru smells like a nice smell for Alina!

I have a dog so I know what she is talking about. :) But I can't describe in words, I just can say that you cana perceive close person (or dog) not only by touch, sight or sound, of course you perceive the two remaining senses. Well, not only close person but with them you connect particular impression with that person.

The english translation says the dog smells. :laugh2: But I am sure Alina did not say that because it would cause an international incident.

I find it kind of sad that Alina enjoyed the dog ceremony alot more than she did when she won Olympic gold. Its nice to see her beaming though.

I think she was just a bit in shock at Olympics, and of course she had to try contain her excitement cause Zhenya. And she was grinning when she jumped on the podium in both ceremonies

Also she was without her nation’s flag and anthem so that would make it harder to be fully happy
