Alina Zagitova

Cripes....

Some so-called knowledgeable people on twitter comparing "Zagitova Rule" to "Zayak Rule"

NOT EVEN CLOSE

If Alina had been performing a 3lz-3lo-3lo-3lo-3lo in competitions and they passed a rule against it - THAT would be much closer to the "Zayak Rule"

This "so-called" figure skating expert (who I never liked) just had an epic fail.

TSL? :laugh:

As for Alina, here she has some counting problems :) .

Pout. LoL.

They must be super humans to skate, spin/jump/twist, pay attention to where their hands are going, where they should be looking, count the turns, count the points, re-count when things go wrong. :hpull:

Just so you understand what these "changes" look like: it's the same as if Phelps was allowed to swim using only one hand to make more "fair" competition, or if Cristiano Ronaldo wasn't allowed to score more than twice per game(third one wouldn't count), or if let's say Ovechkin wasn't allowed to hit the puck harder than 80mph so that goalies have a chance to save. This is so pathetic i can't... This is probably the only kind of "sport" which tries hard to discourage everyone from watching and skaters from progressing :palmf:

And in the third period, only players who are over 30 years old will play, because they are tired of running two periods with young players and this can hurt them :laugh:

Will Alina still do her phantom program? I’d assume they are going to change up the layout now that there is no reward for backloading. And if they had music that was meant to build up at the end then this will have to be reworked as well?

Maybe not, it's not such a big deal in short, I mean not so risky to put jumps in the second. And there is also probability they designed the program already with the knowledge that bonus for backloading will be somehow reduced.

If Eteri truly wanted to risk it all, she could (theoretically) give Zagitova this program:

3s = 4.4
2a = 3.3
2a = 3.3
2lz = 2.1
———————
3lz+3lo = 12.21
3lz+3lo = 12.21
3f+3t+2lo = 12.51

Total: 50.06

I think this is the highest sequence of jumps for a FS with no 3a under the new backloading rule change.

OMG, I love it! That would be the perfect answer to the rule change and a big beautiful middle finger to the ISU too.

:laugh2:

I don't think they should troll, but the best troll would be to frontload the program and do the combination in the SP right after the half way point.

The change promotes (ironically, since Canada proposed 4 jumps in the bonus) the Canadian tendency to finish the program with the step sequence.

Was that bottle of vodka front-loaded or did you "balance" the drinking :laugh:

"These numbers are making me thirsty!!!!"

My prediction is that one of the men will use Carmen this year.

I'm loving that 30+ years from now on a random figure skating board somewhere people will be referencing the "Zagitova Rule" and whether it is worth the risk to put the quadruple axel in the second half of the program. :hap10:

It was a bit frontloaded by I held it with Tano arm all the time. And I did eight turn spins with it too.

A Men doing Carmen? That is a great idea. We know there's going to be a Carmen, that's the only Golden Rule of Figure Skating. All the male characters in that opera are such cads, though. I remember when I watched it as a kid in France and my Dad mentioned that it was an "Opéra-Comique" I said "if this is comedy don't show me tragedy". Of course, as I soon learned, that genre name has nothing to do with comedy but with form.

Alina will forever be in the books, first as an Olympic Champion and then as the girl who inspired the most outrageous rule change ever: I say make a rule to stop rewarding a legal act done by only one person, in a sport of many players, is really over the top. ISU is its own Opera piece.

There have been videos, (i don't remember which one), where Danihl was praising Alexandra that she is very good at counting. They all learn to count quite well because of spins, turns , num of turns in twizzles etc. needs to be done as the program was planned. After some point it become a routine and done automatically your body remembers the moves. But if something unexpected happens during the program you have to readjust and count again.

As for Alina, here she has some counting problems :) .

Ah the mistake with the spin!!!! Flying spin, layback spin, sit/camel spin have have a minimum number of 8 revolutions each without changing foot (and going upright). 8 is the magic number.

I'd say yes to that. Eteri and Daniil were expecting this change already. Plus, as mentioned, that is her short program where the impact of this rule will make for a lesser need in adjustments.

I thought about that too. It would be awkward to do programs like she did this season if the majority of the jumps are now going to be in the first half. I think she should change the music, or re-arrange the piece to go easy on the intense buildup.

Also I just think that this only makes things easier for Alina. As of now, she has the most difficult jumps (unless some major player pulls out a quad or 3a out of nowhere but that seems unlikely), so the technical edge is still there. PCS is not a problem for her anymore. And what really made last years program risky was the backloading. As long as she can really get her 3lz-3lo down this summer, I don’t see why she can’t do clean after clean in competition.

About Alina's free program, I think it will be either Matilda:love:, Giselle or a tango.
I personally would love to see her as Matilda: - first, because it's controversial and I love all it is so, second because, after I read some parts of Matilda's diary, I really think that the character suits her.

It is Matilda the Russian romance movie, right?

When I first read in the Russian Ladies thread someone mentioning Daniil's playlist and they said "Matilda is there", my American brain immediately went to Matilda the Broadway show and movie with the little girl.

I have to check the songs in that Russian movie...never seen it or heard of it before (but it looks like it was a big success).

I thought about THAT Matilda too! Haha
Someone also mentioned that with Matilda she could keep the tutus since Matilda was a ballet dancer. (But I think that there will be no tutus at all!)

Anyway, I like Matilda, after listening the songs I think it’s suits her in some away. And I don’t think it’s for the juniors But I really don’t know if they will go for something that controversial

On Daniil’s playlist there’s also Patrick Chan’s long program to Phantom soundtrack. Maybe they will use something very very similar for her POTO short.

Since Madison and I are talking about it, here is a link to a picture of Daniil's playlist https://s8.hostingkartinok.com/uploads/images/2018/06/a7fda9abf987165379637b96cd92c2b5.png (originally posted on the Russian Ladies thread).

Since Phantom will be her SP, I'd say for her FS with the incentive to put 3 combo jumps as the last jumping passes, he is going to need something with a bit of a bang in the end, like those Gattokiller medleys he has on his playlist (Sotnikova's 2012 FS, and Radionova's SP) or Hanyu's Notre Dame one.

I'd say a good tango could also deliver that.

Matilda has the advantage of giving her a character to play, as would something like Gisele, but from what little I did listen to music from the movie it sounds very lyrical and kind of slow.

I'm so curious to see what will be though, they are killing me with the anticipation.

The Russian movie.... apparently it was a big scandal around this movie as some deputies didn't like how the tsar Nicholas II is depicted. :eeking:

Is Christina Aguilera's voice in Burlesque? I don't like it, it sounds irritating.. in general, I don't like Christina (sorry C. :biggrin:) to be used in figure skating

Honestly, Alina can be proud of herself! :D She‘s got the whole skating world so afraid of her, they even come up with a new rule change. I love that she‘s just 16 and has already got one of the biggest rule changes ever named after her. (Even if it‘s still not the official name, I‘m sure people will remember the „Zagitova Rule“ in the future and the little girl in the red tutu who caused it) And it‘s also kind of obvious how they try to make her „less dangerous“ by devaluating the loop jump.

I‘m so excited for her FP! I‘m no particular fan of Phantom of the Opera as a skating music but I‘m hoping for a more lyrical piece. She had two very energetic programs last season, let her show that she can pull off different styles as well. I think you couldn‘t really see it in DQ because it was just so packed with transitions but her spins are gorgeous and she‘s got really beautiful lines and postures. It would be great if she‘d be able to hold her positions longer. My major problem with DQ never was the backloading, it was the fact that everything seemed so rushed (very obvious contradiction to those who said they felt like in thefirst half nothing was happening) and busy. I would actually love to have her get Matilda. She‘d have a character to portray and I think that‘s a step she really needs in order to mature. DQ was fine, it was upbeat, energetic, full of fire and passion and very lively. But she didn‘t really have a story to tell. If she gets Matilda, she‘ll have to really live the story. I think it will greatly help her improve her artistry. She has everything she needs, she just needs some programs who are a bit more grown up (remember that while DQ was very physically demanding, it still technically is a junior program) to show other sides of her skating. It doesn‘t have to be something really melancholic, Zhenya-style like but something a bit more calm would be fine. So, yeah. I‘m favouring Matilda.
