Agreed. I love warhorses for younger skaters, especially when performing might not become as naturally like with Alina. Carmen, PotO both give her a simple framework to follow that do require some execution to pull off, but remove most of the creative thinking required which might be a bit too much at this point. I think that it's a great choice, as long as the music cuts are good.

Honestly I expected more from him and Eteri. They have so many good and interesting choices out there, even in his playlist.
I hope the Tomb Raider rumor is true for gala. Alina as an Olympic Champion deserves way better than POTO & Carmen in the same season... she deserves the best.
 
So. I‘ve finally managed to come here and comment on the Carmen rumours. When I first heard about them, I was like... literally dying inside, screaming and ranting at Daniil how he could do something like that. Now, I‘m still not satisfied with the choices. Two warhorses in one season are just too much in my opinion. But if Alina really wanted and wished to skate to Carmen, then I‘ll accept it. As long as she is happy with her program, I‘ll manage to be, too. Remember, we just have to WATCH it, Alina however has to skate it day in day out. So, we, the fans, shouldn‘t matter as much. If she feels safe and content and good with this program, so be it. She‘ll own this program anyway. Even if it‘s Carmen. Go, Alinka! :cheer:

(And please go, Daniil, for god‘s sake and make it an unique Carmen program. You can do it, the black swan showed us! :pray:)

Alina will let her skates do the talking - no need to bring the overwrought "drama" to the piece like Ms Witt did in 1988.

Sigh. For all we know, Alina begged to skate to it. Maybe it has been her lifelong dream to relive Carmen, (why?) or she promised a sick relative she would skate to it, (again, why?) or someone is holding a chinchilla hostage unless she skates to this music. :scowl:

This is when Eteri should assert her 'absolute' power and tell her that it's too bad about the chinchilla but Carmen is not a good idea this season (or any season). Just say 'no' to Carmen.

I love your positivity and I will try to think like you too. And obviously we have to wait and see till september (unfortunately). I have faith that they will pull off this with a fresh look and nice cuts.
 
I love this thread. I swear we have the most positive posters on the entire internet. :) Only you guys could make me look at Carmen with fresh eyes (I'm trying) and think about what Daniil and Alina could potentially do with it. I guess our little Alina fandom will all come together as a family (dysfunctional or otherwise) and learn to love Carmen!

Off to watch some Katarina Witt videos like its 1980-whatever all over again!

Whine away my dear friend, you, and all others who have seen enough Carmens to double the population in southern Spain, have earned it.

Here's to Alina erasing all this pain with a beautiful program that will awe us all (and the judges too).

I hope there is an added "twist" - like the insertion of the "Moonlight" music into the "Black Swan" program. Something to set it apart.

Maybe her facebook picture is an indication of the look they are going for ??? - Carmen doesn't have to be red dresses and fans.

I’m fine with Alina doing Carmen. I like the music. And I know Daniil will come up with an amazing and unique program no matter what, we can count on him, and Alina and her skating. Also her costume designer. With all those things put together, it will be a beautiful program and I’m excited ❤️
Also, Carmen is a ballet - I’ve seen it - so yay basically she’s doing another ballet [emoji23][emoji1373]

Thanks, lusk8! Great posts to wake up to. [emoji4] You are right...maybe it will be different, and after all...is our Alinka, and she won't ever let us down. And on a side note...it really suits her..we will see Alinka playing on the ice, smiling towards new gold medals. That's an image I can like [emoji4][emoji7]
 
Guys, having some Alina fun....did a short side by side of the "Carmen" snipped Daniil posted along with a bit of her Black Swan (Ice Fantasia EX version). The moves match somewhat, the leg in front move from later matches her Fire Goddess EX move, but that's the only one from that.

What's wrong with Carmen? Why everyone always so against it? :( I love this music! It's absolutely brilliant. And I love some Carmen programs. Never get tired of watching them. It's not like Alina will be skating to Agillera... (I hope...)
