Alina Zagitova

Lol, the Fed isn't going to "turn against her". Why would they? Tatars are a Muslim nation and there are many Tatar sportsmen/women in Russia. There's nothing scandalous or gasp worthy about this for Russians. Tatars in particular are a very secular type of Muslims. Islam is a part of their ethnic identity, but non-observance is quite typical.
Do Tatar women in Tatarstan wear chadors or hijabs, can drive cars, smoke in public, etc.? Are there some exclusive muslim laws in that region, that differ it from rest of Russia?

People in Russia are too used to each other, there are no problems unless someone is trying to politicize his identity. What Alina said is not politicizing.

Do Tatar women in Tatarstan wear chadors or hijabs, can drive cars, smoke in public, etc.? Are there some exclusive muslim laws in that region, that differ it from rest of Russia?

No differences from most of Russia of which I would be aware.

Overwhelming majority of Tatar women don't wear head coverings, they dress the same way ethnic Russians do. Just like Alina. Yes, of course they can smoke in public, drive cars, etc. No special Muslim laws in place.

Care to explain???

I think you've got such answer because your post looked like a bundle of cliches and stereotypes. I understand that may be in west muslims treated differently, but they aren't some special religious group in Russia. Russia historically contacted a lot with muslims (if we can call countless wars as contacts ), and especially tatars, for the hundreds of years (this video series might give you an idea). Also, tatars is one of the biggest ethnic groups in Russia (link). There is just no reason for the fed to treat her differently.

For some reason I thought she posted a "Happy New Year" video next to a Christmas tree. Although, hardly anyone I know associates it with Christianity, so plenty of of non-Christians have a Christmas tree just for the holidays.

I'm actually kinda amused and somewhat saddened about the ease with each people can stereotype on this forum. Although, I'm interested in how religion has evolved in Russia from Tsarist through communism's rise and fall and to present day Putin era (I know it's long a complicated).

Therer was a tv segment here in the USA during the World Cup that showed what happens during these Tatar festivals. I think goat or ram was given as a prize. How cool is that?

What exactly was she given the medal for?? I’m bad at reading Russian so I don’t properly understand [emoji28]

her being muslim doesn't mean very much, muslims basically have more rules to live by and are more likely to believe in god

Tatars and Bashkirs are as religious as Russians (i.e. not much). Their biggest difference from us is that they use water instead of toilet paper.

That's a bit surprising, at least to me. Well, I noticed that Russian figure skaters usually wear necklaces with crosses during their skates. Sometimes really big and visible, like Medvedeva or Gubanova . Sometimes just smaller, but still noticeable, like Radionova, Sotskova or Pogorilaya. I always thought it is a manifesfation of their Christian religiousness, well what else could it be? I assumed it is kind of distinctive, a characteristic of Russian skaters, of course those who are Christians.
