Alina Zagitova

this "Alina's career will be over next year" is not respectful tho! i have a hard time understanding why anybody would think this is okay to say! even about the skaters i enjoy watching the least, i wouldn't say something like this! yikes

My post was about DaNiCG comments in regards to Alina SP.

And yes, this post about her career was rude and offensive, I don’t know why someone would say something like that on her FF. :palmf:

After seeing the junior test skates, Alina's career will be over next year. She will be like number 4 or 5 in her own training group.

Make the most of your last season and grab the world title!
I strongly disagree with you. I watched the junior test skates several times. Anna is good but like Fluture said, she seems very fragile, hasn't proved yet that she is consistent, her jumps don't give me the feeling of security and stability. She is lovely though, if she works hard, she could be a real threat.
Trusova is already a real threat, the quads and everything, I admit this. But it's only her who has this crazy jump layout, and to be honest, the other elements don't impress me that much. Falls are getting more penalty now and riskier layouts mean that one or two bad falls can influence the TES. If we put the quads aside, there isn't much there for me that could beat Alina who will have high PCS (deservedly). IF she loses the quads, Alina won't be losing to her.
And last but not least - Alyona Kostornaya is my favourite among the juniors, she has it all. She has the jumps, the spins, the skating skills, the maturity. She seems to be careful and doesn't take risks early in the season, I think she is aiming for longevity and that's good. Long-term she is the greatest threat in the ladies field internationally.

So having said all that, Alina is not working less than the other girls in her group. She is fiercely competitive, she knows she should get up every day, go the the ice rink and work for her success. She definitely won't be number 4 or 5 in her group if she stays healthy and determined to win. If she wasn't like this, we wouldn't even discuss her in a fan fest right now. Yes, she gets media attention, but this attention is in waves, after a week people will calm down and there will be a peaceful period without public appearances when she can practice like usual. And let's not forget there are many champions who stay competitive for years despite all the public attention.

And by the way, Alina's 3Lz-3Lo looks the most aesthetically appealing to me, when I compare the combos of her and the juniors. The combo in slow motion in the bank commercial is just breathtaking, the leg muscles and that core and strength... Just the Olympic champion.

Nah, that's the weak and easy excuse people default to defend their favorites when they're facing a barrage of criticism.

Some things are objectively bad, like Zag's new SP.

Some things are objectively bad. Like Domnina and Shabalin's 2010 short dance and the Sharknado movies. D&S have an Olympic bronze medal and Sharknado has 5 sequels. The sharks are now in space!

Zags new SP is just fine.

....well this is her fanfest after all.

What things would you change to make the SP better?

A lot of people here have had opinions about what should be altered --- or some like it as is.

I have the sneaking suspicion that you and the guy that "liked" your comment don't care one way or another about "Zag" and just look for ways to criticize anything about her.

I could be wrong - and if I am I apologize for my hasty judgement.

LOL

Nah, don't really have that much time in my day. If I didn't care one way or the other, IDK why I would just look for ways to criticize her, either. Quite counter-productive. I do call her Zag, got that right. That SP is pretty garbage right now, though. Shame, her performance abilities at the beginning there seem to have improved a little, and her skating still has a special quality that I can appreciate a bit.

Well you cared enough to lurk around her fanfest and make a post here and we appreciate it :agree:

Thank you for caring (if only just a little) - we will be sending you a stuffed "Masaru" toy.

Her performing abilities have improved even a lot, she's very graceful and expressing her emotions more openly. I have been one of those criticizing her artistry a lot, but I see a huge improvement and she deserves credit for that because she's definitely been working hard on this. It's fascinating that a month at the training camp led to such progress. Also, there's no more fear on her face when stepping on the ice and I pretty much enjoy seeing her like that. She has gained a lot of experience in the last season and it shows that she's more comfortable with her "job" now.

For me the best thing about her new program...was Alina herself. She did well given the choreo, I don't think that any other skater would have been better..even the opposite. That's why I am still very confused about that SP.. It has some interesting moments but it's kind of too much (currently). And this is not a rant against Daniil..he obviously had some problems with the programs for the juniors as well, but just like the skaters, their coaches and choreographers have ups and downs, too. I suspect that they showed her SP so early in the pre-season time for two reasons - Alina has the chance to try it out before competitions and they want to see how people find it. So, I think it's important to express opinions on this topic. They definitely will look up what people think and would do some corrections, in my opinion.

Do you have any information whether Alina is going to participate in the Challenger Series or the Helsinki Grand Prix will be her first competition of the season?

Great point about the lack of fear - I was so busy looking at all the other things regarding the SP - I never noticed.

Maybe she will still show a little nerves for competitions - but she seemed so calm and serene here and that is very good.

What I posted in the GPF predictions thread about her program:

To me, the glass shattering and the fist convey a sense of "breaking free" similar to how Christine breaks free of Erik and his entrapments. It also provides drama and brings back interest -- perhaps Daniil knows how much people are bored by POTO and lull off into familiar music -- until they hear such an unconventional noise as glass breaking. I think the program isn't even about POTO itself but of the idea of being fierce, of being yourself. It's about Alina finding herself and her style of skating. But the beauty to me is that they leave it up for interpretation and someone else can have a totally different idea of what it's about. To me, that makes figure skating more accessible and it makes her skating more accessible to different groups of skating fans, both her fans and her... non-fans. The program also plays with the idea of maturing, and again parallels with POTO without being overtly similar -- Christine matures from a young, unknown singer into a strong, empowered woman to spend the rest of her life with Raoul, and Alina is maturing from the "jumping bean" that many dismiss her as (whether that's true or not is another argument (note for us: this guy I'm defending her to is notorious for calling Alina that. I don't think she's a jumping bean by far. She's mature, wonderful, and most importantly, herself) into an artist of her own right without being over the top and showing everyone that "I am an artist!". Alina seems to be very introverted and quiet, and has mentioned Masaru as a true friend for her, especially as she had to leave her home city and friends and family behind. She is not an overly showy person or naturally extroverted, and such a program would not fit her. This is why a subtle but classy program such as this works for her, at least in my opinion.

brilliantly said.

This whole post! Whatever people want to say about the choreo, Alina has grown into a very lovely skater. She is much more expressive and projects way better to the audience. She radiates warmth and feeling in the POTO program esp during the Think of Me segment which is exactly what it calls for.

I’m getting tired of the exact same copy-and-paste criticism being given over and over towards Alina’s program. Like, we get it.

if you’re gonna make a comment, at least bring something fresh or an interesting idea to it. And keep it constructive please, or why do you bother?

Nothing about her program is illegal or wrong. It’s just a program. IT’S JUST A PROGRAM. Some people just need to MOVE ON.

I'm not a huge fan of Alina and I know I'm in the minority on this, but I kinda love her SP

I've gone back and watched it many times and like it more and more each time, she can only improve throughout the season and with a normal rink and real dress. I think many people are underestimating the true beauty in this program. The way the spiral into the axel and the triple flip match the music is honestly really cool. I know people find the amount of songs annoying, but I can see her telling a different story in each piece, and I look forward to the songs changing, it keeps my interest. Especially when I listened to just her music, without the skating. I saw POTO on broadway a few years ago and when I heard the different songs it brought me right back to the musical. When I am watching Alina and hearing the different songs, it is almost like I am seeing the play for a second time, she is embodying a new scene every few seconds, while keeping her character and poise and it's really impressive.

I don't see how the choreography or program is bad, it justs interesting and unique, especially the sound effects, it gives it a different vibe and I love it!

You are wrong. I've sang praises of Zagitova in this thread before and was pushing for her to win OGM, but I'm going to call a spade a spade when I see it. A fanfest is also not a worship altar. It's intellectual weakness to call people who don't LOVE EVERYTHING about a skater as "haterz", and "hasty judgement" is just a poor excuse for not taking the time to do your due diligence. Checking a poster's history takes <1 min.

As for the SP, first order of business is to find a better cut of music (a freelancer off Soundcloud could do a better job), and second order of business is to choreograph it in a way that lets Zagitova holds her position. She has wonderful lines, extensions, movement, and I see only glimpses of them in this program.

If it's JUST A PROGRAM, why are you so sensitive to the critical blow back then? There's an entire season left to go, so you might want to get used to the critical furor.

Is "not illegal or wrong" the best defense you can come up with? Truly scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I think that the problem here is the expectations that we had, last year she has beautiful programs, well constructed, the cuts were meh but it was ok. This year she starts as the Olympic champion. I remember 4 years ago when Hanyu won we all wanted to see what could he do to defend his title (remember the whole Patrick drama) to prove that yes he deserve it. He brought POTO too, but oh what a master piece, it was really good, amazing even, people were "another POTO??" but he deliver it like no one, and shout mouths left and right.

Alina is amazing, but is this a gold medalist program? no. Trusova is having better programs than her, which sucks cause Alina deserves better, Alina can deliver more

This POTO looks unprofessional, unfinished, again 5 pieces in 2 minutes and a half...this is not hate against Alina, just cause you criticized her program doesnt mean you hate her, ESPECIALLY when people point out that the problem IS THE PROGRAM not the skater.

the problem is the cuts, theres no cohesion between one piece and the other. ALINA IS AMAZING AS ALWAYS
