That were such joke during the times of communist regime, the inventor gets the diploma, the director of the institution gets the money... One of our entertainers made a stand up commedy during 70's, he was telling Snow White story with many jokes, one of them was that when step-mother sends the hunter to kill Snow White, she says to him: "You shall lead Snow White into the deepest forest and there you will chop her head out. As a reward you shall receive - hmmm - a diploma..." :biggrin:

New interview with TAT:
She proves by her actions that she is the leader in ladies skating. For the first competition in post-Olympic season her performance was brilliant. She did 3Lz-3Lo in the second half, after 3Lz-3T - it shows great skills. She likes her free programme and she feels the music. And you can clearly see the work of her coaches and choreographer. I think the music suits her very well, after DQ.

When people complain about "positions not held long enough" and "busy" it simply means that Alina has choreography and transitions – what the judges are looking for and reward. Sometimes when I go back to old Michelle Kwan programs I understand what some posters here intend. But honestly from today's perspective I don't see anything special in Kwan's programs apart from the theatralic face, long set-ups for jumps, crossovers and two-foot skating. I partially agree. But, yes, the aesthetics of figure skating is slowly changing towards more complex and choreographically "busy" programs. That's what people like nowdays. Judges can't fight against people's massive taste. Back in the days it was more like: intro, lap around the ice, long setup skating two-footed across the icerink, jump, setup, jump, crossover, setup, jump, some hands wigglings, step-sequence, crossover, jump, setup, jump, spins, setup, jump, chore-sequence, setup, jump and final spins.

Love or hate Eteri-team's program, but their program DO feel more self-contained, monolithic and look like uninterrupapted art piece. But, certainly, skater have to be technically skilled and phisycally ready in order to pull it off. And seems like ISU likes that. They like that FS is getting more artistic and keeping the athletic comparative side too. It's not physically easy to skate Eteri's program - let's agree on that. Besides we see on the scores how judges are trained by ISU to evaluate programs like that, where element goes after element, and there are beautiful and difficult elements going in and out of almost every jump. It's just looks more pleasant, it looks more like dance and less like sport with series of obligatory jumps, steps and spins. And international omni-partisan love of FS fans to Medvedva, Zagitova, Kostornaya, Scherbakova, Trusova, Lipntiskaya is a clear evidence of approval.

It's already a trend. I see how some Japanese coaches and skaters mimicking and adopting the same approach. They see the writing on the wall. Eteri is not the only and the first one to create such programs, but her team really was able to successfully pick this trend up and they know how to celebrate it. They celebrate all strong features and sides of their skaters, and trying to downplay their weaknesses. They know what's good and what would audience would like and they just celebrating it in all their programs of their students. Eteri is not innovative, but she is a successful coach who recognized the trend and she knows how to create programs according to the skills of the student and train them to perform flawlessly. Let's be fair, everybody.

Totally agree. Plus Eteri must really know her skaters well, because as Alina said she was not so in in POTO, she don't know it, don't know how to handle it, interprete it, it was something completelly new for her ..but Eteri and the team make her master of it .. they do well not only brutal physical training, but also mental one ..they did such a good job. They are better not just because ..

GUYS, GUYS, GUYS....I can't even...thank you for the well wishes caballe and TheBallerina, and.... YESSSS I watched it live. As we entered the restaurant I was thinking, if Alina can do a 3Lz+3Lo and a charlotte into a 2A I can run to the bathroom and watch her performance.

Since I'm not our awesome Alina I timed my "run for it" wrong and got inside the bathroom just as Ashley Lin was starting to skate, but then I said to myself: "I'm staying the course, I'll only leave this booth after Alina's Kiss & Cry".

I was shaking and screaming, my internet connection chocked just as she started to move and I let out a loud scream that made a woman on the next booth ask "are you out of paper?". I said "my internet connection went out", she's probably still wondering about that one.

Alina....she was gorgeous....so confident as she asked into the rink, way more relaxed than on her free, she hit her mark, took a deep visible breath and.....TRANSFORMED. As she started to move she was Carmen, you could see her relax into her performance. More than that she started to own that FS, so beautiful, so secure, first jump came up and I was silently saying "nail this, nail this, nail this"...and nail it she did. She jumped, she landed and more than that, she skated so beautifully, give us a complete glimpse of how great this program will become as she moves it through the season and gets better at the little details that she is just now starting to incorporate into it.

Her smile at the end....that for me was the gold medal right there. Seeing her happy with her skate, happy that she nailed her first competition with secure performances that boost her confidence and show the world (just like she did at the Olympic Team Event) "yeah, I'm here and I'm awesome". The performer in her came out and played.

Her Kiss and Cry was just a piece of heaven, seeing Eteri there, seeing her so happy, seeing the young "flower girls" coming up to deliver the gifts and congratulate her....Alina deserves all this.

And this awesome fanfest, with its many posters that brighten my days, are worthy of this great, kind, amazing, girl.

We get a GALA guys (we would anyway but this way is so much sweeter). Like her Lara Croft song "She is a survivor", but she is way more than that, she is a thriver. Shine your bright light into the world Alina.

PS: took me this long to be able to log in again and write because after I came back into the restaurant my rather "long" bathroom break couldn't convince my client and the colleague I was having lunch and subsequent meetings with that I was really OK. I took so long and came back with moist eyes and nothing I said could convince them that I was fine, then were on my like hawks for the rest of the afternoon. But hey, worth it!!!

Eteri definitely knows her skaters. She knows how much to push them to make them win. Whatever else, her methods turned Alina from an unknown junior into Olympic champion in two years. I don't know any other coach who can say they've done that.

In a lot of the videos on Sambo, you can see Eteri guiding her skaters along in the choreo and doing a lot of demonstrations. Remembering Alina's ex from last year, it makes wonder how exactly Eteri taught Alina those movements... :laugh2:

Yea that's what I think! A lot of people is saying she is tyrant, she push them too hard, don't allow them eat atc. But I don't believe she is that bad ..of course she is very strict and the trainings are very hard, but when the girls talk about her they dont look scared or something ..they interact with her in normal way .. and the fact that Julia have eating desorder does not mean every girl in the group is ill too just because she is skinny .. there is probably a lot of rumours just because she is famous and have a lot of skaters which kill the world (literally) ..nobody is questioning anybody who is not succesful

I remember when people were criticizing skaters for "telegraphing" jumps, too many crossovers, 2 foot skating, no transitional elements into jumps.

I'm a product of the good old days, and I miss seeing elements done for their beauty, and not just as point grabbers.

However, I am getting fed up with all the kvetching about how beauty is gone from skating, the sport is ruined, yada yada yada.

Another argument that keeps cropping up now is "downplay weaknesses" like that is a crime. Who doesn't???? No skater is perfect.

And I firmly believe that had Alina (or any other top ladies skater) come up in the "figures" or "6.0" era they would have been top skaters then also.
The talent, work ethic, and competitive spirt are the same - how they are trained and what they are trained to do is the difference.
