Just watched Alina's ex. My thoughts:

I was really excited when she came out in her leather jacket. Alina finally gets a costume that is warm on the ice!

Then she took the jacket off...I do hope that tank top is warmer than it looks. She seemed to get into the action of her ex, though, and there was some dancing in the middle that you'd never be able to see in an actual competition. There was also a cantilever in the middle of it. I'm interested to see if Alina ever tries to incorporate that into her other programs, not this season, of course, but in the future.

But my main thought was, if Alina is wearing the black tank top and black pants Evgenia had last season, does that mean her tiger costume was passed down to Sasha?

This EX makes me really wish they would coreograph her programs to allow her to hold her positions longer. She does it so well and can create such a mood with the music. That spiral at the beginning was stunning.

Yes, she did try a 3Lz out of a charlotte. But this is nothing new, she already did it last year in her EX too.

Eteri's "everything and the kitchen sink" approach has been discussed to death, so I don't want to rehash it. But there is something that has been niggling at my mind about this. I watched a video about Katarina Witt a while ago, and she was talking about her Carmen at the '88 Olympics. She said that she was able to embody Carmen so well because she had 20 seconds where she could just stand in the middle of the rink and flirt with the audience, but modern rules don't let skaters do that anymore.



Also learned that everyone back then was as scared of Jutta Müller (Witt's coach) as everyone now seems to be of Eteri.

Oh, that might be, I didn‘t watch her gala last year other than the Olympic one and I cringed way too hard to watch it all the way through (Sorry, Alina) But still... even if it isn‘t new... it‘s still awesome!!

This EX is insanely good! And suits Alina so well! (whoever says that she can't hold her positions for long or lacks speed should watch it 3 times before breakfast for a week. and then consult their doctor if it still doesn't help.)

Also a lot of musicality, the style really suits her. She seems to really feel pop music. I wish it would be competitive program because it'll be a breathe of fresh air as no one does this style, but probably too risky not knowing how judges will take it
