Alina Zagitova

That is such a nice picture.

Is your wife a figure skating fan also?

This is the part I wanted to keep hidden, but since I've got so far...

My wife, Eliška (Elise), passed away seven years ago. Still, I can't imagine to start any new relationship, it's something deep inside that can't be changed. We fought together with her serious illness but at the end we lost. Please don't ask for details. This is as it is.

To answer the question, she was during her life, I did not understand that time what is so interresting on it. I was ignorant. Now I know and I'm here with you people in this forum. Now figure skating and my writing I mentioned are the things that keep me together.

I won‘t go into details, I won’t ask anything. I just want to say that I understand it. Not the part about this unconditional love, I’m too young to understand, not experienced enough. But I understand in a way that I’ve seen it from others. I look at my mother and I know she‘ll never be able to start a new relationship when my father‘s gone. I also won‘t go into details here but serious illness is also a part of our family‘s life. My father is still alive thankfully but I don’t know how long he‘ll be and frankly no one does.

That’s why I’m kind of touchy when someone tells me: “Well, it’s just figure skating, why are you so obsessed with it? You can‘t even skate properly!“ It‘s not just figure skating, at least not for me. It helped me through my most difficult times and it still does. That‘s why I’m so attached to Zhenya and Alina and not willing to just give them up for the next upcoming juniors. Zhenya’s Anna Karenina with its raw feelings, the emotions bubbling out of her. And Alina being so cheerful yet so determined with the fistpump of joy at the end. The big smile, her laugh of relief. To me, it’s more than just a sport. It connects people, it helps people.

I’m sorry that this happened to you, flanker. I’m sorry that it has to happen to anyone. I don‘t know whether you want to hear that, this typical phrase you probably always get to hear: “I‘m sorry“ but I feel like I still have to say it. Because I am. I wish you all the strength.

And now, this is starting to be really deep here. There I was thinking about replying funny things about shipping people when I see this post. Alina’s fanfest is really a place for everything, right? Jokes, gushing, shipping and serious talk, too. This is a special place here. Thank you, Alina, for being such a good person, wonderful athlete and skater. It‘s thanks to you that we‘re all gathered here together. :)

:ghug::ghug: Thank you so much, flanker, for sharing your story with us, we are honoured to have you here, with us, on this fanfest, which has become our own online family. :ghug: You are an amazing person, and all your posts are bringing light and happiness into our lives.

I just want to add that I am amazed by all the people I've met here, all the stories, the fun, the jokes, the emotions. It's a great place to be, and I want to thank you all for this. Some days (usually working days) I don't post that often because my job is very demanding, but I always read your posts, even during short breaks, and it immediately lifts my spirits. If it will be given a prize for the best fanfest, or even, for the best place on the internet, this fanfest would receive it for sure. And if Alina will someday read this thread, I think she will be very proud of this place, because it's exactly like her: friendly, genuine, caring, respectful. :luv17:

Thank you for sharing, flanker. I'm sure it wasn't easy for you, but your words made this place even more special.

Thank you, people. If I wouldn't have trust in you, I would have never spoken about it.

But don't be sad for me now, I did not intend to turn this thread into valley of sorrow, right? :) After all, you can see everyone here has his own issues and struggles. We will anticipate Alina's next competition, let the GP will be hers. Masaru! :agree:

Flanker, thank you for sharing your story, and it is a beautiful love story even if the "happy ever after" turns out to be briefer than we would have wished.

It's a deep privilege to find someone you love who loves you back to share your life with, the bond you shared is eternal and unbreakable, what you lived together will always be a part of you and I'm sure your lovely wife lives on in your memories and stories of her. She is surely proud to see you finding new things to enjoy in life and working on your writing. The love we share with others is always with us and inspires us for sure.

Thank you for being Alina's fan and sharing your time and stories here with us.

Guys I was thinking about that earlier this week, when I was asking for summarize last days because I was too busy. And you did it and wish me the best with my school. I'm not there for a long time yet, but feel there very good. I'm glad I found GS and people who are interested in the same thing and have the same favorite skater, but are also respecful to other competitors. I usually don't speak so much about figure skating (or tennis, my most favorite sport (both watch and play) to be honest) in my private life, because i feel the others don't appreciate it. Everyone there is also nice person, you support each other, joke with each other etc. and it's a pleasure to share my time virtualy with you. Thank you.

I feel like maybe because Alina is very nice, generous, honest, beautiful person, that's why she have that good fanfest.

But dont wanna be sentimental a lot, lets go back to Alina. It's a long time wait for her next skate, isn't it? :D Right now everything in my life is going very fast, I have a lot of activiest and school duties (and I have a lot of cappuccino dates with my friends, yes :D ), so it seems for me that it's like a month ago since I saw Alina in Japan Open and in reality it's just a few days. :D

Fluture thank you for sharing your story with us.

I'm glad you found inspiration in your love of figure skating to live your life with happiness. Your parents' story sounds really beautiful and I'm sure that living with them gives you strength and inspiration to be a better you everyday.

You are a great addition to Alina's fanfest and we are lucky to have you.

Alina is the glue that brought us all together and I'm sure such a gathering of nice, kind, people could only have happened around a special girl like she is.

I'm going to circle back a little to Madoka because that story fits Alina's spirit a lot.

My younger kid loves anime and when I showed him Madoka Alina he excitedly invited me to watch the episodes with him on Netflix (he watched them many times before but I've never seen it) and this particular anime is deep in meaning and has a very touching story.

Madoka sacrifices a lot, ultimately making the biggest sacrifice, to erase pain and suffering from others' lives, she cares deeply for all other living beings and is a very selfless caring person.

Alina is a super caring girl and she demonstrates that all the time by how much she cares for her family, her friends, her fans, her pets and even people she just met or have never met, she gets truly happy when she can be in an environment that's positive and full of joy. Like Japan Open, Nebelhorn to remember the more recent ones. She senses the energy of the fans, that are all gathered there to enjoy a great figure skating event, and it's clear that she wants to give them the show of their lives. And then she does. Seeing her truly happy after a skate is such a great felling, like happiness jumps out to you through your screen (TV, computer, phone, etc) and hugs you. She is happy and you feel happy too just by seeing it, her happiness is contagious.

Alina is such a joy to watch and I'm thankful to be able to share these great moments with all the amazing peeps in this fanfest.

I don't usually like to quote long posts, but I'm going to this time because I want to respond to everything you said in here. :) Unlike some posters who only come on here to post Masaru gifs and beg for translations of Instagram--looking at you, zenskate --you always have kind, informative, well thought out posts.

About Madoka, I was thrilled when I saw the Madoka ad starring Alina. I saw this interview they did with her about Kyubey, and it made goosebumps rise on my arms. For those of you who don't know, Kyubey is the spawn of Satan who tricks innocent young girls into giving him their souls. I know that Kyubey isn't real, but I was still getting scared for Alina because she is exactly the kind of girl Kyubey targets. Whoever thought Alina would make the perfect Madoka was a genius.

Though that pink wig from the Japanese show...

Alina is usually very reserved in interviews, she even says so herself, but that doesn't mean that parts of her character don't shine through it all: her caring heart, her thoughtfulness, her humility. Because she is so reserved, her joy shines brighter when she shows it. I first became an Alina fan not when I saw DQ, but twenty minutes later when I saw her reaction to coming in first. It takes tremendous strength of character to be gracious in defeat, but I can't help but think that takes equal strength to be gracious in victory, when it's so easy to forget about everyone else's feelings because YOU WON THE OLYMPICS!!! And at age fifteen, too. I admire many skaters for their skating, but Alina is the one of the few who, even if she was a perfectly ordinary girl who couldn't step on ice without slipping, I would still admire.

Lastly...I wanted to say, Alina got Eteri to take her back. That's a feat worthy of Olympic gold in of itself, and it says everything about what kind of person Alina is.

Thank you for your post, lots of great insight and information.

And your info on Kyubey!! He is like a little lesson for young kids, that even behind a cute and non threatening facade something dark can lurker. Don’t read a book by its cover kids.

Alina has a ton of charisma, she draws people in and that’s something that can’t be taught. It’s part of her meteoric rise in popularity and she backs it up by having great skill and talent. Now she is also a very hard worker and this quality coupled with the former two will carry her far.

I keep thinking back to my first thoughts when I first saw her at the beginning of her Junior career: this kid was truly loved by her parents (and family). She grew up in a loving environment and that shows in the way she presents herself to the world.

Like you I also admire her a lot for her behavior toward all the other skaters. As we can already see her friendly and charming personality will shine through and bring her many friends.

Curiosity moment: since many remarked that Alina's score at Japan Open would have placed her in 3rd if she was competing against the men in that event I decided to even out the math to see how it looked for her if she was indeed "a man". Men's PCS are factored by 2.0 while women's are factored by 1.60.

So Alina got TES of 84.95 and PCS of 74.23 = 159.18, if she were a men with her same scores her PCS would have changed to 92.78 for a total score of 177.73. With this score she would've been 2nd among the men. Her layout had two single 2A, two 3-3 combos, one 3-2-2 sequence, plus two other single triples.

Shoma got TES of 98.25 and PCS of 89.44 = 186.69 - he had a 1.00 fall deduction (that's with 3 single Quads - 2 got under rotation calls, one 4-2 combo, one 3A, one 3A sequence, plus one 3-3)

Oda got TES of 92.45 and PCS of 84.50 = 176.95 (that's with one 4-3 combo, one 3A sequence, one single 3A, one 3-3, plus two other single triples and one single 2A)

So...yeah....right....how about this amazing girl, taking it on and bringing it.

She would have been 8.86 shy of Shoma (him with a program featuring two 3A and four 4s).

Her factoring adjusted PCS would have been the highest of all the competitors in that competition.
