Alina Zagitova

In my country today is All Saints' Day ( festum omnium sanctorum) we don't work . This is far from the American Haloween party. Tomorrow is All Souls' Day in these days everybody goes to the semetaries. That would be working day but we have a long week-end because of the changing of the working days. We will work in Saturday next week instead of this Friday.

Sorry , this was OT I just wanted to say I'm lucky I can watch Alina and Hanyu's competition live!!!:dance3:

We don't have free day on this fest, it's just "important day". In fact most of the celebration is that most people visit the cemetery, even the complete atheists like EdRoz or me :)

That's generally true. I hope it's not the case here. It's more difficult to do the combo in second half that's for sure, but in Alina's case I think the strategy to have 3Lz-3T first may work better. It's an easier jump more reliable (higher rate of success) so can boost the confidence and performance. If you fall/pop your first jumping pass then you will have it in your mind for the next 3 minutes of your program... The disadvantage is that legs are tired in second half and the loop may be prone to underotations. Probably that's the reason behind this decision, if the plan ends up true.

P.S Anyway, I hope there will be some practice videos so we can have a better picture...

I agree with this. I mean I'm not Alina's coach so I don't know more than what I see, but from what I can see Alina's biggest issues are confidence, ie. when she makes a big mistake like fall or pop, she seems to lose her focus for the rest of her program. I think she has no issues with stamina because we've seen what she can do. Imo, it's better to have the loop combo in the back half. But as I said I wouldn't know more than her coaching team so I just hope it works out!

I believe Eteri gives her skaters content and layouts she knows they can handle. Alina's jumps transitions are already so complex, they'll boost her GOE enough to not need a -3lo combo in the second half. It's risky if she misses it then, it's better this way. I think what they have planned this season is already ambitious enough for her to come on top if clean or even semi-clean.

By the way, I've just seen Katarina Witt's Carmen from 1988 (last time I've seen it some time ago when I wasn't fan of figure skating yet). This is not against Katarina when I say that now I can see how much figure skating has developed in just 30 years. Her program could be gala program at best today, it would be weak even for junior GP, not to mention Alina's Carmen. The difficulty, the elements (esp. combos) in today's skating, the choreography, it's such a huge and overwhelming difference.

yeah, there's a lot of posing in the middle of the program

What a hectic day! I managed to squeeze in 3 work meetings between watching reports of Alina's practice :)

Q: What is "beauty"?
Alina: For me the "beauty" is the "success" itself. People who are truly beautiful are also successful in everything they do.

Uhmmm, I really like Alina, I am a fan, and I wish I could understand this wisdom. But she skates great, is a very nice and humble girl and I am giving her a credit of a 16 years old girl. :)

Guys, hold your horses. Let me explain a little. Alina, of course, did't speak about the natural beauty that a person has (or not) since birth. Saying the word "beautiful", she then used the word "ухоженный" (well groomed) to clarify what she meant.
She says that a successful person (at least in our society) pays great attention to his appearance, to what he looks like in the eyes of other people. You do not agree with this? For me it's true, and this is especially important for women (again - at least in our society).

Alina has seen Witts Carmen too but would never say what you did. ;)

Agreed. Alina's Carmen is far more entertaining and complex and keeps you engaged throughout. I think that Witt's Carmen would struggle to compete with even Kostyleva's, let alone Alina's.
Someone in the practice reports thread said she didn't miss a single jump!
Hopefully she'll have clean skates and set a great WR~

I agree with Flanker, figure skating has improved, and now, at the moment , we have the privilege - we are seeing 98% of the maximum. Do you believe in the era of quads? Personally, I don’t . Coaches can no longer force students to work as hard as they could, even in Russia and Japan, and if a couple of terrible falls with injuries happen, quads can be banned. I believe that now we see the best of ladies figure skating
