Alina Zagitova

Let's watch it, dear friends, Eteri is in the lead, but Alina is chasing very hard, yes, it's the race where you know that it won't be over till the finish. And just now Alina is fighting for the lead, will she do that? Last metres remaining, and yes, she won my friends, what an incredible race we've been witnessing right now :hap10:

:clap::clap:

That's a nice one, flanker! You would be an amazing sports commentator, you should try it, as a part-time job

I would love to hear you commenting FS, especially competitions where Alina participates. "And now, ladies and gentlemen, we are seeing this girl writing history: winning the World Championships, a year after she became an Olympic Champion. Now that's what I call determination and strong-will. Sorry, I am a little bit emotional right now:biggrin::biggrin:"

Did I say (I know, I did, but I want to say it again) that I love this thread? :hap10:

I might consider it :scratch2::yahoo:
And I hope this is what we will hear at worlds.

Actually that bracelet is huge popular in Brazil.

Americans and europeans buy thousands of it when they come to Brazilian beaches. In caribbean they kind have that tradition too. (Wasn't Alina there for vacations this year?).

The whole thing come from Salvador (a city), where most people follow a different religion, they believe in the god of water, Iemanjá (her name). They believe in the power of the ocean.

But most of people buy without relate it with the religion. The tradition is just beautiful. You need to put your bracellet on your wrist and you should make three knots (node). Each knot is a wish. If you keep the bracellet until it rips alone, your wish will come true.

I've never had patience to wait it to rip, sometimes it takes months and I don't think its beautiful

But my sister, husband and almost all my friends (almost all brazilians) says it is very effective.

If someone want it, send me a address in a private message. I am in Brazil until January and I can get some and send you guys.
It is very cheap, most of time they give you for free.

What she had in her wrist was a "fitinha do bonfim" (that's the name of the one in Brazil), when I first saw it on her wrist I thought about the ones in Brazil too, how they often look after you've been wearing them for a while (always used to tie mine to my ankle so it would rip faster  me always in a hurry to get my wishes granted).

I thought about sending one (the ones from Brazil) to Alina along with a gift then I looked at one of my kids wrists with a "fitinha" sitting there for the past two years and thought it would be a long commitment for her.

Anyway, now I regret not sending her one....it would be a cool gift from Brazil and they have lovely colors.

It's so interesting to hear how different cultures have such similar practices to ward off negativity.

I myself wear a similar bracelet, but it has a khamsa on it, for the same reason.

I can imagine Alina's family members tying this on for her :)

I think this fanfest could be another version of the bracelet - we encourage positive thoughts here!

Yes!

Trankov's opinion on the GPF -

“This is the end of my first final as a coach. Did we expect more? Of course! But it is a sport. Today we lost a tiny battle, for the Grand Prix finals are not a title, but rather a rating and money, but a rating from the guys, and so on, and money is not the main thing?"

Good to know! :rolleye:

And Patrick Chan, saying essentially the same thing, but expressing his opinion in a way I actually agree with -

“The Grand Prix Final is not the competition that needs to be won at any cost. At least, I always thought so myself.

The main task for any skater is to be selected in the six, and for this you should strive to become the best in those stages where you perform. This is the most difficult task.

If the athlete has completed it, he has every reason to consider the series successful and treat the final as a pleasant bonus, no more. Approximately as to demonstration performances after important starts. In any case, it seems to me that way.

We should not think about medals and records, but try to get maximum pleasure from what is happening, ”

I agree with you.

The GP Series for "newbie fan me" (watched it for 3 years now, Alina's Junior Season, her First Senior Season and now her Second Senior Season) is all about getting more chances to see my favorite skater, Alina, perform. If I had to live with knowing I'd only get to watch her at Nationals, Europeans and Worlds my season of enjoying her would be super short. Since she does Challenger Series (one comp.) and GP stages I get to see her 3 extra times and the fun starts in September instead of late December.

It is all about enjoying Alina and all I wanted was to see her make the 6 so I could get to enjoy her yet another time in December (instead of just once at Nationals).

She exceeded my expectations by a mile and I'm super happy I got to have Alina at 4 different competitions since September (really 5 because in my enjoyment book Japan Open is right up there because I also get an ice show bonus).

So 5x Alina (with one ice show) plus another 3x to come is better than just 3x Alina.

All of this! And just to clarify I am in no way diminishing the prestige of winning the GPF. As a fan I would have been thrilled to see Alina win it again. And Rika and her fans should be thrilled and proud.

As a fan of multiple ice dance teams throughout the years the GPF is such a double edged sword. The years Weaver and Poje won I would think, this is it! This is going to be their year to win it all at Worlds! Except that it wasn't. :( And that has happened with other teams I loved as well.

And then Virtue & Moir never could win the damned thing until their very last year! But they consistently rocked at Worlds.

Sigh. The GPF giveth and the GPF taketh away. This one is done and over with. Onwards to RusNats. Or RusNuts! Whichever it turns out to be. :)

Hello everyone! Thank you for the warm welcome, and hello patee from Hungary! So nice to see fans from so many different countries!

OMG Alina is such a cutie speaking in English. She seems to pronounce very well (at least in those few seconds we heard lol). I wonder if she got that tutor she said she was considering? Or maybe she´s just learning by speaking with so many different skaters at competitions. The EX was just a joy to watch. For me she just keeps improving and gaining more confidence with each new competition.
After reading the translated interview I just have to wonder how can this 16 year old young girl be so wise for her age. Her answers are so polite and she seems to be such a kind young girl, with great sportsmanship and respect for other skaters. I can only imagine how hard it must be for all these young skaters, especially for Alina, to try to balance everyday life problems, which we all have, with all the pressure that comes with being number one in your country and the whole world. Its´hard for older athletes, who are nowhere near good as her in their sports, so it must be hard for her too.
Thanks so much for the translations! I am considering learning Russian someday. See? Alina inspires people not only for sports, but also for other things in life. I am very proud of being her fan.

Does someone know when they are going back to Russia?

Nice to (virtually) meet you too and everyone else here! It really brings warm feelings to my heart to be welcomed in such a kindhearted way. I really appreciate it! :)

As for Alina, I'm also a member of a Hungarian skating group on FB and not everybody is a huge fan of hers there (least to say), so I always feel the need to be protective of her. It's really difficult for me to understand some of the negative comments about her, because many times I have the impression as if we were not talking about the same person. For example when they criticise her skating skills, jumps, choreography, posture etc. When I first saw Alina skate, she really impressed me with her dynamics, speed, elegance, grace and of course her amazing jumps and spins. Also, it was amazing to see this powerful young girl to able to do all her jumps in the second half of her free skate. (Again something she was much criticised for..) It was Alissa Czisny, the wonderfully talented and beautiful American skater, who impressed me like that. (Actually, it was her, who really drew me to get deeper into figure skating..) Anyway, I hope we'll see Alina fulfill a long and continuously successful career and she'll delight us with her sublime programs for a long time. :)

Looks really small....

I think Alina skated there before (it's where she got that Smurf from her Periscope videos when she was - I guess - 13).

Only one thing is good-all toys and flowers will fly directly on the ice :)
More bad — I don’t see any places for banners

Made some places towards the back, like white space between top chairs and lower ones (kind of like a balcony).

But I agree, very few places, it'll be a run for the little space there is I imagine.

No one understands why Saransk was chosen for RusNats

Only 3000 spectators

https://goo.gl/images/6H3Zt3

The biggest FS competition of the year, in such a small arena. It's a shame, I am sure that many more people wanted to attend this event. It's strange because even the test skates took place in a bigger arena.

On the other hand, I guess the pressure on the skaters will be lower, so that's a positive side of this smaller rink. May the best skater (*cough* Alina) win
