I was expecting it was bad, but this is really horrible ... :sad4: You also can see on that pic that her "accident" with cable at GPF where she injured her ankle wasn't just light.. She still has a bruise there. It look like she spained her ankle quite a lot. How tought she must be. She probably skate under some pain killers, but pain killers can help a bit with ankle, not with burning .. I bet average person would not be able to even walk in sneakers. This must me too much even when you feel adrenalin. Now I really see that it was impossible to skate clean FP. It's a long and she skate a short day before ... And the fact that she goes to gala with it? All hats down!!!

Btw I think she couldn't withdraw because Liza already did. Evgenia could withdraw last year due to her injury and got a spot, but now it was too tough. Alina was 2nd at GPF, Liza was 3rd. They both did pretty well throw the season, so It will be tough to give one of them sport nd not the other. :confused2: So she decided to go faith for her spot, and she earn it!

Upon seeing this injury, I'm really shocked that Alina will still skate on ice shows after Worlds. Like, she NEEDS TO REST AND HEAL. I don't want her to hurt herself even more. This is so sad and also a very proud moment for her fans because she won Worlds with those awful wounds. This girl is a hero.

Those are not "current" pictures. This is how her ankles look now:

It is healed already, or at least to the state where she can "show them publicly".

She had those injuries back in December. So burning is already ok and also probably sprained ankle. And her legs looked at Words far best from the whole season. She didn't have tapes on her legs, such a huge change in comparison with Euros. I think shows are not that intense, it's still work, but it's more fun and less pressure, you can really enjoy performing for fans without huge pressure. As she herself said, she loves figure skating so much. After tours, she is going to holiday with her family, and then she will start to train hard for new season. :)

RusFed didn't let her WD... they tried to... but... either you skate or your season is over.
That's one of the reasons she came to RN a little bit later than other girls.

No, her season won't be over had she withdrew. But she would probably had to go through the same process of verification at Rus Cup like Liza and Zhenya. Liza is WC champion, Zhenya is 2-time WC champion, yet their results on Nats were low or non-existing (Liza WD), so RusFed def had to give a spot to Samodurova. She deserved it with her consistency during the first half of the season. Konstantinova scored high at Rus Nats and was more-less decent since the beginning of the season too. So she was in the mix too.

So there were 5 strong girls for 3 spots this season. Alina was 5th at Rus Nats, so technically she got her spot via Rus Nats right away and could calmly heal and get prepared to WC. Good for her. Otherwise they will have to drag her to verification skate at Rus Cup. Samodurova got her spot right away, OK. If Alina WD from Rus Nats, there would be 4 girls - Alina, Zhenya, Stasya and Liza - for 2 spots. But Alina skated and confirmed her spot right away at Nats. Otherwise TAT+Besti+Med-uberstans and public opinion would be at her throat: "She stole Olympic gold and now she is faking injuries, blabla".

With a lower result than her usual, but Alina got her spot earlier. So she healed and started preparing for WC. And very successfully. She got her gold. She came to WC more confident than others girls. Many people thought so too. Japanese girls unfortunately cracked under pressure of the home turf. But Alina seemed calmer and more confident this time. Eteri's magic, I guess. Everything worked out. Spoils to the winner. She is modeling, traveling and enjoying ice shows now. The usual suspects can humbly shut it.

I think it was before Nationals.

Her SP was flawless. Jumps we're high and spins were strong In SP. Many people think that happened between SP and LP. They might be wrong... At LP her jumps were shaky and she struggled with holding her position in spins, like she barely can bear it.

I hope someone who is more competent than me will translate this. But here is some parts from this interview:
- Alina always unpacking all presents from fans herself. Toys would go to children (Alina apologizes for that to fans, but hopes that they will understand that children will be happy and they need toys more than she does) and handmade gifts Alina always brings home.
- She was upset by harsh critics, especially when journalists wrote that this season was a total disaster and she didn't won anything (wich is totally not true as we know). She even read some of this articles to set on the (fight) mood for the FP.
- Preparation to the WC was tough. But thanks to her coaches everything ended up well. They were her therapists.
- Masaru is her spirit animal. They are best friends. Alina likes to sleep on the couch with Iriska in her tummy amd Masaru at her side.
- She didn't speak english yet, bur there are some figure skaters who trying to learn russian for her.
- She doesn't plan to quit figure skating.
- Happiness for her is when everyone around her is happy.

No one knows what would happened if she WD. If she didn't skate, then at ECH team would be Stanislava, Sofia and Zhenya (4., 6., 7. (Alina was 5th). It's highly possible that Zhenya would medaled no matter if she fall or not or whatever, medals wasn't that high and she has highest qualities (which btw she proved once again at Words and I'm happy for her no matter how strange the nominations was - but it not belong there, so move on). In the end Alina medaled with fall as well. So Sofia and Zhenya would have spots for Words. Stanislava's spot was in competition because she did not well at Euros and it was not for the first time as she didn't grab an opportunity given to her. No one could expect that will happened. She had a good first half of the season. When you count it will stay the same way, then there will be competition between Stanislava, Liza and Alina for the last spot. Liza did pretty well. Alina did better at Words but no one can predict. So in the end, it was realy cruel but since RusFed refuse to give her free spot for the team, it was probably good decision of the teamtutberidze (And I believe Alina herself wanted to do it, as they wanted to withdraw her from GPF but she wanted to skate, she is not human guys). Those things are very tough and sad but it happenes, especially in those federation where is many high quality athletes and only a few can go. (I'm not saying it's good!)

Anyway I think now, it doesn't matter. She was the strongest at Nats mentally, and it earn her what needed to become fist Russian lady and second woman figure skater ever and the youngest one who completed the Slam. No one have could stop her, even RusFed.

No way the Rus Fed would have given up to Alina this season.
Where are the rumours that they forced her to compete at Nationals from?
I honestly do not believe this is true.

It happened before sp, back in Moscow, since Daniil said they messed up with her GRANDMA who wasn’t in Saransk, Watch Alina’s sp again she clearly was in pain, I noticed it right away back then, she was hugging Eteri for a long time and was teary-eyed, also russian commentators said “Alina skated sp well, we hoped for it but tbh we were VERY worried, she had a bad warmup and fell a few times but she managed the sp after all”
So imagine her willpower.

There is a question of Alina's possible quads for the upcoming season(s). While it would not be definitely easy for her, we all know her determination. She is smart and understands that from a long perspective she would have little chance without quad/3A. Her 80-82 TES for free program is practically maximum tech score that is achievable with a "standard" program and she can't gain much more in PCS either, so the only way is to rise points is having at least a quad/3A in her portfolio.

I know that Lilbet is different body type but Alina's jumps overally are in no way weaker, lower etc., so if Lilbet was able to land first quad in training in some two weeks I think alina is capable of it as well. The ending season was about stabilizing Alina on top, adjusting her jumping technique to her new body etc., so now there can be time for those new things. I am carefully optimistic about it.
