Alina Zagitova

I just saw the brutal pictures of Alinas ankle and foot with the burns and blisters on them at Russian Nationals and I want to cry. She is an absolute warrior as tough as can be even though she looks so sweet and delicate. But seeing these pictures makes me wonder what the hell is going on where are the Russian federation her coaches and Alina's parents letting her skate with such an obvious injury. No need for her to skate with that damage to her foot. It had to be so painful and that she bombed the free skate at Nationals and then she bomb the free skate at Europeans they overcame both of those disasters and very impressively won the gold medal at the world championships. Alina is absolutely amazing.

What was going on? It can’t be more obvious than it is: Worlds was her secret main goal of a season as she said herself. Sportsmen have injuries it’s no news, they have to show character. Alina and her team needed her to skate no matter what to get herself a spot at Worlds because after GPF rusfed saw the potential in Liza with 3A but she WD from rusnats last minute, they also needed Zhenya to get a spot from rusnats on her own but she failed her sp. And they had to keep their voted spot for one of them at least since only one person can go no matter results of rusnats and Europeans.

Just saw Alina's performance from today's show, she did 3 jumps, all amazing, no problems with jacket or hair and of course, she looked beautiful.

As it wasn't a bone injury, fracture or muscle/ligament strain or injury, maybe the doctor said it would be very painful but ok to skate? Similar to skating with a horrible blister. My initial reaction was also 'who let her skate?'. It didn't work out in the end but Alina might have wanted to take the risk if she knew there was no possibility of increasing the injury.

You dont have to tell me how tough Alina is and if Rusfed is moronic enough to take her off worlds team for missing Rusnats or Euros when injured then they wouldn deserve to lose 1 of their 3 spots. I am still pissed off Alina skated at worlds last year when she was not well and had lost 5 pounds since the olympics. That was ridiculous and cost her a perfect debut season.

I want her skating competitively in 2 and 3 years to try to make Bejiing team and Alina has major knee issues besides insane competition from jumping jack figure skaters doing higher scoring programs than she does. I think skating with a hematoma on her right ankle the size of a hot dog at GPF LP and skating with a burned a blistered right ankle causing pain at Rusnats LP when she already has bad knees is playing Russian Roulette if you will with her career at 16. Her team needs to see the big picture and the big picture was not the 2018 2019 season. Thank God she got away with it and won worlds and won the career grand slam never done before at 16. But I dont want her retired at 18 with injury the way Sotnikova was. Adelina tore an ankle ligament after the olympics had surgery and could never get back competively. That was sad. I hope Alina can skate competively until her 20s and now that she has won everything at 16 she can pull out of an event in the future and not worry about costing Russia a spot because the depth for the Russinas is off the charts insane especially with 3a turning senior this year.

Upon seeing this injury, I'm really shocked that Alina will still skate on ice shows after Worlds. Like, she NEEDS TO REST AND HEAL. I don't want her to hurt herself even more. This is so sad and also a very proud moment for her fans because she won Worlds with those awful wounds. This girl is a hero.

Good point Jenn. Alina does need to rest her wounds and bad knees. She is a hero. But it is risky skating with wounds. Alina is such a fragile yet tough athlete. I still hope she can skate competitively for a few more years and still be around when her little sister Sabina is eligible for Rusnats if she becomes good enough. Skating a Rusnats with her little sister would be the icing on her career cake for Alina.

" What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger "

An unfortunate mishap for sure, that medication. I am surprised and a little disappointed in the Sambo-70 medical staff. If that medication isn't of the usual domestic sold-over-the-counter type, proper explanation, application and check up by a Sambo nurse or doctor should have been done regularly.
Now Alina has learned a painful lesson the hard way, which caused her great discomfort and stress. She and Sambo-70 won't be making the same mistake twice, not with Alina nor with any other skater in their charge.

It was applied by Alina's babushka. The medication can be purchased freely.

I agree. Everybody involved should know better.
