Alina Zagitova

New interview with Alina tied into her appearance at the “10 Questions” TV show in Japan (airs April 19th) which is sponsored by Shiseido.

I had to resort to Google Translate so probably not ideal quotes but these two stand out:

“I liked to stand on the podium and get a medal since I was little. For that reason, I can get over the hard practice days, and if I make a good performance on the podium, I feel that I want to do even better performance. This is the biggest motivation for me.”

“I can not imagine my life without figure skating, and I am just living with figure skating.

It's important to build up that way, and I want to show the performance without mistakes like in the 17-18 season, do good skating, and make the audience happy.”

After all, why should be people surprised that Alina is proud of her victiores and credits them to her abilities? She is modest and humble, but that doesn't exclude that she is aware of her skills.
We have a proverb: "when you won't praise yourself, nobody will do that instead."
And Alina has the direct experience of how many people (at least people whose name starts with "T" ;)) were not so satisfied to credit her victories as for many of them she was (and for some she still is) a crack in the plot.
