Averbukh - about Zagitova: “She has matured and remains one of the favourites of the season”

The silver medalist of the 2002 Olympics, choreographer Ilya Averbukh in an interview with SE, believes that Olympic champion Alina Zagitova remains one of the favorites of the season. He noted that the skater will be able to fight if she skates cleanly, get a big PCS score and perform well in terms of presentation.

Q: Who is Trusova’s main rival?
A: Alina Zagitova in very good shape, I noticed this at the Open Test Skates. She has matured and remains one of the favourites of the season. If she skates cleanly, gets a big PCS score and performs well in terms of presentation, she can compete. By the way, there is an American skater who does quadruples, but her PCS is much lower than Trusova's.

Q: What to expect from Zagitova?
A: Alina also proved to be a great fighter, she was like on fire. Not everything turned out at the European Championship, but later - a great victory at the World Championships. Don't count your chickens before they are hatched, we now need to cheer. There were fears that due to the difficult last season, she would give herself a pass. But bravo to Eteri Tutberidze! At the Open Test Skates Alina showed that she was in shape and in perfect order.

Q: Now the confrontation between Zagitova and Medvedeva is definitely in the past? After all, Trusova, Shcherbakova appeared on the scene?
A: I am sure that Trusova, Shcherbakova, Kostornaya will definitely burst into the epicenter. Let's fan them!

Alina going clean 2/2 performances this season so far. If she keeps this going, she's going to be the lady with the fastest puberty recovery. Normally it takes the best skaters a few season to recover from a growth spurt, but it seems like she's in even better shape than she was when she was 15 (which is rare in ladies). Good thing her team helped her with that, and didn't "throw her away" like so many thought (wished :whack:). I think by the end of this season we'll get an idea of whether she'll fight for the Olympics.

I love her in black for Cleopatra, but do wish that they'll change the SP dress. It's rare for skaters to wear the same colours for both programs, no?

Oh my gosh. The dress is gorgeous. I want it!! Also amazing that she was only 6 points short of Trusova who put 4 quads in it. I think Trusova’s PCS here was fair.

Great for Alina going clean. Can’t wait to watch it. I love how she is proving you can be a contender against Ultra-C elements without any.
 
Great scores from Alina (and Sasha too!) Can't wait to see if broadcasted!

Last year Alina rode through the fiery pits of unnecessary judgement by a whole bunch of nobodies and came out victorious. Absolutely smashed it. Out of the ballpark. This season is startingto look so much better than the last and I can't wait to see how much better she can get!!
