The sixth stage of the Grand Prix series, NHK Trophy, is over! Gold and bronze for our beautiful girls! Congratulations to Alyona Kostornaya and Alina Zagitova for winning their medals and reaching the Grand Prix finals! Thanks to all our fans for supporting us.
P.S. Thank you all for your congratulations on my “Honored Coach of Russia” title.
Now let's hope that in the finals Alina will skate in her best form. Even with 3A and Rika she is still strong medal contender.

Should be enough. The Empress strikes back.
Maxim Sharafutdinov @ maks3d (news anchor on the first channel) showed how they all cheer for Alina Zagitova! ⠀
1) So we cheer for Zagitova behind the scenes
2) And so ⠀
3) And so in the frame
From the beginning Alina had her "game face" on, she meant business today and delivered an amazing free skate, like we all knew she could! :luv17:
She became a Champion of everything not by chance, but because she has a true champion's mentality, she is perfectionist and such a hardworker! Yes, she made a mistake in the SP (and I still think that all the calls from IdF rattled her a bit - she tried to have even a deeper edge on the Lz, she overrotated her flip, she held her final pose for soooo long), and she cried afterwards.
It broke my heart, and she did not cry because her competition is too strong, or because of her coaches, but because she did not do her best. We are watching Alina for quite a long time already, and we know what high principles she has. She never said she does not care what she presents on the ice, of course she does, she is a true champion and wants to show to the audience the best possible performance. And above all, Alina is a fighter, and she is always reborn after tough moments, she considers them motivation and moves forward.
And today she proved it. She proved that she can skate clean, that nothing is even close to over, that she can have a FS score close to other skaters who jump ultra-C elements. When she is on, her skating is on such a high level that she will always be a strong competitor. Yes, she won't always win everything, and she doesn't need to, but she is a true champion.

From FSO -
Bestemyanova: Zagitova fantastically skated an arbitrary program at the Japanese Grand Prix
“Alina’s free program was absolutely wonderful, fantastic,” Bestemyanova said. “It’s very unfortunate that she had this small breakdown in the short one, she couldn’t make the cascade. It seems to me that she was very well prepared, and the mistake in the short one was just "an accident, and arbitrary rental was exactly what was expected of her. She did what she knows and loves, and did at a very high level."
The judges considered a slight shortage only on a triple flip from a complex cascade with double sheepskin and rittberger. Alina also lost a point on the rotation and track of steps - the third level instead of the planned fourth.
But that was enough to get on the podium in Sapporo and plan a trip to Turin. And just a little bit was not enough to get around Rick Kihira. The difference in technical assessment is 2.12 points. At first glance, it is surprising, especially considering that the Japanese skater purely performed two triple axels at once and did not make a single blunder.

1) Nice to know that sometimes a mistake is just an accident, and not her imminent demise.
2) How many points is a "double sheepskin" worth? And does it need to be fully rotated?
3) Who is this "Rick Kihira" and why was he skating in the ladies competition.![]()
Double sheepskin is a new element in figure skating, a well executed double shipskin is worth more than a 4A!
