Alina Zagitova

:sad21::sad21:

I appreciate Alina so much, I just want her to be happy. I hope she will find the inner strenght to come back even more powerful than before, any competition without her is not the same for me. :)

No, this is what she did not say :handw:

She said she will not skate on RusNats, EC, WC, but she will do ice shows, she will attend trainings and (among other things) she later explicitely said she will learn new elements.

I didn‘t hear that part but I believe you.
So sad to hear her statement and for me it really sounds like retirement. But we will see her in many other ways

wait actually? So this was entirely Alina's decision then? Huh, I'm confused.. Just yesterday Johnny was saying that Alina intends to have a long career

Highly doubt this is just Alina's decision. Yes, definitely she had a say in it but she the way looks up to her coaching team, especially Eteri, I can confidently say she their opinion heavily influenced her.

I could bet you that this is what Eteri wanted for Zhenya after the Pyeongchang Olympics, but, we all know she took another route. For Alina, the decision to step away from competitive FS is a bit "easier" cuz she is a Grand Slam champ. Unlike Evgenia, she doesn't have anything else to prove.

I just want to hope that this is truly what Alina wants.:(

Alina Zagitova said that she suspends participation in competitions

The athlete said that she will skip the championship of Russia and does not claim to participate in the European and World championships this season

TASS, December 13th. Olympic champion in figure skating Alina Zagitova decided to suspend her sports career. The 17-year-old athlete told this on air of the First Channel nine hour news broadcast

“I’m not going anywhere, but I won’t participate in the upcoming Russian championship. I want to clarify right away that I’m not applying for either the European Championship or the World Championship by pre-selection, which I have always been able to enter (on my own) by the sporting principle,” said Zagitova. “I stay on the ice, I’ll continue training. I think it’s even good, because I’ll look for myself to find and learn new elements, learn new entries into jumps."

It seems that this is what she said: (https://www.sports.ru/figure-skating/1081292220.html)

“I’m not going anywhere, but I’m not participating in the Russian championship. I want to clarify that without selection I do not pretend to the European Championship or the World Cup, I have always been selected according to the sporting principle. In the upcoming season I will not speak. But I will participate in many shows, stay on the ice, I will train. I think that it’s even good, I will look for myself and learn new elements and new approaches to jumping. I stay with the coaches with whom I have come such a long way, the Olympics. I am grateful to them, the federation, the fans, the family, ”said the skater.

Then I would say, probably a wise decision.

When the anchor asked her if there's a chance that she might still return, Alina said "But I'm NOT leaving".

She will:

- skip RusNats
- not go through any other channels to get selected for the EC & WC teams this season
- continue training with the team, but the training regimen would be different
- maybe try learning new jumps in the future
- skate at the shows

_______

tl;dr: Not retired.

you think Eteri pushed her to take this break? Please just let this be that Alina and her coaching team wants for Alina to be able to take a break from competitive skating so that she can come back and be even better than before :pray::pray: I'm straight up crying at the library right now

According to Eteri, she and RusFed had to push Alina to go into THIS season as she wanted a break, not the other way around.

I think Alina needed that rest right after OG, like Eteri said.
She looked always tired, stressed...I really wish her mental rest and chill out. Liza taught that it's possible to comeback, no one can say what will be the future for the Russian ladies team.
She only has to take her time, organize her ideas and cope with the young adult status she’s in now...who knows, maybe we will see a new Alina, after that break 😉

Well, their push and pull worked, but probably took a great toll on Alina's spirit and motivation to continue when you have the most valuable collection of medals in your cabinet.

Danill Markovich told in his Figurka interview something about the mental preparation and re-charging of Alina pre 2018 World Championships. No doubt it was an unpleasant time for all involved.
Eteri Georgiyevna sounded both tired and relieved in her short interview. No doubt the choice wasn't easy and hit her and her team too.

But full respect to Alina and #TeamTutberidzeForProgress for handling this delicate decision and its presentation so carefully and respectfully.

Then I would say, probably a wise decision.

Indeed a wise decision.

But it should be different. What a momentum would it be after competing RusNats with he home crowd, after her amazing programs, that suit her just perfect this season. After her gala, when a new flower starts to grow from her hand...

Her face expression in GPF remembered me on Yulia in her last competition. I agree, a different story. Alina is still in a great shape and can still bounce back with a quad.

So happy to see her kind of relieved today.

This is for me the difference between Eteri and Mishin. No doubts both are great coaches. With one you can get the Olympic medal, with another you can get a quad in your 20s. Mishin has not chose Alina back then. But she is the Olympic champion forever. An might come back.

Take your time Alina

I think their coaches don’t want Alina to fall apart because of the 3A. She has a mental break down last year and they want to prevent her this year. She may skate for pleasure but it’s still competition and she has no chance to medal at national, Europeans and worlds. She needs a break and I hope she will find motivation to compete again.

Eteri spoke at the end (with tears in her eyes, I think) and said it was a decision that took a long time. She reminded how difficult it was before Worlds and then, in the summer, Alina was asking about time off. Eteri hopes she will miss the ice and come back soon. The good news is that Alina will continue to skate and train with the same team, so she isn't retiring, but won't be competing.

After the initial shock and after crying for a while (surprising myself), I think Alina needs a well-deserved break and to be happy. She probably had a burn out after the Olympics (as most skaters do) and only her insane discipline and willpower helped her go gloriously through last season. This season she thought she could take it easy and concentrate on performance, but found out competitions are too much. Most skaters take a break or retire after the Olympics, while Alina stayed. Better take the break now and be back soon than completely crash. Even if she doesn't come back, I will be forever grateful for the beauty she created. I hope she finds all the happiness in the world, she deserves it.

Didn't know that the Me Voy song is about leaving..... So sad and beautiful.

So long, dearest Alina, and thanks for all the fish!

IMO, Alina was tired for a long time. She's been working extremely hard for a past few years, and I don't think Alina went into this season 100% confident.
I think Alina went into this season, thinking 'I'll just go with the flow'.
She did not aim to win anything, she just wanted to go out there and skate.
But as season went on, I think she realized she's tired and needs a break.

And I honestly did not understand how she went on for so long after Olympics, without any break. It probably was always on the back of her mind and messed with her mentally.
She always skated all practices clean, and her test skates performances were lights out.

From what I understood, her plan is following: slowing down the training for some time to keep her shape, but to take it a little easier in the beginning, so that she could take a rest and relax a little, and rev up training before the new season and start learning new elements.

Was it premonition of #TeamTutberidzeForProgress? One can be certain a perceptive and emotional person like Daniil Markovich sub-consciously sensed something?

Anyway, a few months of 'rest' and training/performing without stress will do her good. She might discover something new, in herself, in her life, in the world, in love.

" if you stay, you don't know what you're going to find, if you leave, you don't know what you're leaving behind "

Happy and productive break I wish you, Alina Ilnazovna. Self discovery, a journey deep into your own heart, spirit and mind, take your time. Have a pleasant journey and safe return home.

Nationals will not be the same without Alina, but I hope that she is able to enjoy her break and find her love for competing again. Competing at the Olympics must have been so stressful and to not have a break to enjoy her accomplishments must have been so tough on her. Not to mention being away from her family for so many years. I trust that Alina is doing what is best for her physical and mental health by taking this break and enjoying herself. No matter what Alina decides to do with her career, she will always be my favorite Ballerina. :luv17:

Only good thing that came out of this is that I can now watch Russian Nationals without my heart beating through my chest
