Alina Zagitova

Masaru is an auntie now!

Akita Inu named Sakura, belonging to a Sumo wrestler Asashōryū Akinori (his original Mongolian name's Dolgorsürengiin Dagvadorj), gave birth to a puppy that will be given as a gift to the president of Kyrgyzstan. Masao, the father, is Masaru's brother :)

Wanna train with Alina? You should also play the piano

Polina is so tall she can barely reach the keyboard without straining her back. But she is a wonderful musician and fan of figure skating, the Khrustalniy girls and horses too :-)

It would be so nice if she can be invited to Tutberidze's Show of Champions to play life with the skaters to their own music. What Eric Radford can do, she can do also.

Happy birthday to the best skating mum ever - Leysan Zagitova! :cheer2:

From an interview that Ilnaz gave sometime ago:

I couldn't devote much time to Alina then. Leysan was engaged more with her, and my mother-in-law helped a lot. At one time, only one rink worked in Izhevsk; there wasn’t enough ice time. Therefore, Leysan had to drive our daughter 60 kilometres to Tatarstan, to the city of Agryz. Often twice a day. Once they had an accident. But my wife is not to blame. A car suddenly jumped out of a secondary road and hit our Toyota in the side, and it flew off into a ditch. Miraculously, it did not roll over. We only just arrived to the base with the team, when my wife called: "We had an accident." I immediately rushed to the site of the accident. Thank God everyone was ok, my girls were safe and sound. The car was heavily dented, we repaired as best we could.
...⠀⠀

Alina first went to Moscow with her mum. At first they lived with our friends, since we did not know whether they would accept Alina at the Sambo-70 school. The road to the Crystal Palace ice rink took two hours one way. There was no point in returning, since there was yet another training ahead during the day. Therefore, they rested right there, in the palace, and returned home closer to midnight. And left for training early next morning again. They had to take a bus to the subway first, in the morning the buses frequently did not run on time, they had to wait and froze in the cold. They called me then: "We're freezing, there is no bus for a long time." It broke my heart to hear them like that. ⠀

Then, when Alina was accepted, we rented an apartment in Moscow and her grandma went there to stay with her, and my wife returned, she had to take care of our youngest daughter.

Happy birthday, Leysan :thank:

The words of Alina's father once again show how much sacrifice has to be done from the family to provide all the trainings, care, time etc. Good family is everything.

The story about Leysan from Ilnaz on teamzagitova is incredible.
Back when there was no ice available for Alina in their hometown, Leysan used to travel to a city 60km away from them every day to get Alina ice in another city.
After that when they initially moved to Moscow, they lived 2 hours away from the rink and had to travel by bus every day.
Hope someone can bring the full translation here.

Alina’s accomplishments are no doubt the result of her own hard work, discipline and dedication, a wise eye of Eteri who saw Alina’s talent and knew how to nourish it, but a bigger and often unseen part is all the sacrifices that were made by Leysan and Ilnaz.
The cost of her medals is much more than just going and skating, she wasn’t born with a silver spoon in her mouth, so much had to happen to make those dreams come true.
But that only makes looking at how far she has come sweeter.
