Alina Zagitova

Happy Birthday, Alina! I wish you health and countless happy moments! And may all your dreams come true!

Thank you for being you, sweet Alina.

Happy birthday to Alina! :yahoo: :hap10::hap85:

Just wanted to expand on this a bit:

I remember the very first time I "saw" Alina skate (on a livestream) was at first JGP appearance, at St. Gervais in 2016. Even then, she captured my eye with her exquisite jumps, incredible spins, and wonderful interpretation. At her next JGP in Ljubljana, I saw her disappointment through the screen and felt it with her, and was overjoyed when she rebounded to capture the JGPF, Jr. Nationals, and JWC titles (and her first medal at Russian Nationals!). Her Don Quixote program has always been one of my favorite skating programs, and I was so happy that she kept it for the Olympic season.

I remember the ups and downs of her first GP series, the disappointing SPs and redeeming FSs. I've always been impressed by her tenacity, determination, and resilience, and her perseverance that season was truly remarkable - especially in its culmination with an Olympic title. Though I would've been happy with either Alina or Evgenia as the champion, I was thrilled when Alina won. Her story has always been inspirational, to me and to hundreds of thousands of others, and to see her become an Olympic champion was amazing.

I remember watching her struggles the next season and knowing that Alina would still take the world by storm the way she did at the Olympics. Seeing her Worlds skates last season only confirmed what I already knew: that she was fiercely determined and incredibly talented, a skater born to make history. I've been her fan for years, and will always continue to be her fan. It's truly a privilege to watch her skate, and she is an inspiration to me every day (though I do not know her at all!). I hope she enjoys her special day and can always feel the support and dedication of her fans :agree2:

It's Alina Day!!! Happy birthday to the Queen!! :hb: :dance2: :party2:

Thank you for bringing so much joy to us with your skating.
For showing us that anything is possible if we work hard and never give up our dreams.
For proving that age is just a number and we're never too young to be the best version of ourselves.
For all your kindness, classiness, elegance, beauty, strenght, power.
For simply being Alina :thank:

Roman Kostomarov managed to wish Alina Happy Birthday without suggesting she retire! Progress! -

Olympic champion Roman Kostomarov congratulated Russian skater Alina Zagitova on her birthday. Today Zagitova turns 18 years old.

- "I congratulate Alina and wish her always to remain on top. She is a man who went to his goal, achieved all that is possible. A real beauty and a great athlete, an example to follow! So I wish her health and happiness in the area that she herself as an adult will choose,” Kostomarov told the SE correspondent. (Dmitry Kuznetsov)

More from FSO -

Zagitova fell in love with them, skating, bright nature, childish spontaneity and strong character.

Zagitova is only 18, but there are already so many things behind her that so far not a single Russian figure skater has been able to achieve. In addition, Alina:

- the first junior with more than 200 points in terms of the amount of programs;

- the first and only skater to overcome the 82-point threshold in the short program according to the old judging system;

- The first skater, scoring 80 points in the short and more than 150 in the free program on the new;

- The first figure skater since 1985, who won the World Cup in the first season after winning the Olympics;

- the first skater in the world, who performed all the jumping elements, including cascades, in the second half of the program: both short and arbitrary;

- The first skater in history to win the Olympics in her first season at the adult level.

And also Zagitova is a diligent graduate of the Sambo 70 school, who was entrusted with giving the last bell at the graduation.

Agree!!

I was watching figure skating semi-regularly post Yuna-Mao glory days, I just lost interest for a while... I still liked skaters, a lot of them, but they weren’t making me want to follow them for some reason.

I remember the Olympic year, I was thinking to myself:“ I feel like if clean, red ballerina deserves to win in my book, but I don’t feel like it’s going to happen”. Then she missed her combo and I felt like it definitely was not going to happen. And then she came back with a Lz-Lo and won the Olympics. I was shocked and amazed by her.

It made me feel something different, I was so happy for her. And then I saw this little girl, lowering her head and looking at her teddy bear in sheer disbelief. It just became something personal to me, like it was my little sister or my daughter. My little one would’ve behaved the same way, had she done something similar. Something about Alina and her behavior that day just spoke to me.
I don’t know how to explain it, but there are some people you just feel are good. Genuinely good. And you want to root for them, support them not for their achievements, but for their character.

Later on, I got to know how humble, hard working, shy and giving she is. How brave and tough she is when it came or overcoming difficulties. All of those things just made me appreciate her even more. She is a pure and precious little human being, and I’m thankful for being able to see her journey.

Happy Alina Day! Turning 18 on the 18th has to mean some kind of magic year ahead. And receiving hail for her special day? If she can't return to the ice yet, then the weather will bring the ice to her. :) (someone on FSO said that. I have shamelessly stolen it.)

Today was a good day. I've enjoyed all of the Alina celebrations and congratulations. Team Zagitova is on another level as far as fans go! :bow: I absolutely love the jewelry they chose. Very good taste.

Here is some Alina happiness for us all to enjoy.

Wishing her so many more happy moments in this life.

But not at the same time!!!! :laugh:
Yes nyet at the same time. ;)

I hope she does come back to competition.

But you are right about the "new normal". And it affects every skater and not just her.

Off topic - yesterday they had some sort of charity golf tournament on TV with just 4 players and no spectators.

I remember exactly one year ago I went to Bethpage Black on Long Island, NY with a couple of friends to watch a golf tournament.
The crowds were so huge it was intimidating. I think it is going to be a long, long, long, long time before we ever see anything like that again.
I'm from Long Island originally and I know Bethpage Black. I hope we have spectators back sooner in sporting events than you think we will. But that remains to be seen. I think for sporting events you'll start with small crowds and then go back up to full capacity over a. Of time including figure skating. But if these incredible athletes like Alina have to skate in front of empty arenas for a while so be it.
