Alissa Czisny: Audrey Hepburn on Ice

I think they are very different t expressing their feelings when they are successful. Alissa seems geniuenly happy on the ice, and when she does well, she seems so joyful, like she's so happy she can and does cry.

Sasha seems to be very serious and takes her mistakes much harder. The only times she ever came across joyful and light to me was 2000 Nationals SP and Swan Lake at Fall and Spring Cheesefests.

Otherwise, when she skates clean, it seems like she's thinking,"YES! Triumph!":

I think Alyiss's Sabrina is much better tha Ambers, Holly Golightly.
More graceful.

Well, we've got three different Audreys...

Alyssa's is graceful, Cinderella-like (Sabrina)...
Amber's is more worldly, in a way, she captured the essence of Holly being a "free spirit" (Holly Golightly)
Tonya Harding's was more masculine. I think she was portraying George Peppard more than she was Holly Golightly in her Moon River.

I prefer that genuine smile...conveys happiness on the ice much more effectively and THAT's what I like to see in a skater. It's not the emotion but the JOY in the skating that's the deal-maker for me. For example, Alyssa and Emily seemed genuinely happy during and after their skate. Kimmie- off the ice she is, but on the ice she's just going through the motions. (IMO if she can find a way to incorporate that into her routines she could be a pretty skater.)

I agree with you. Many people feel Emily's enthusiasm is "over the top" and even if at times she may be, I really enjoy watching her because I feel she loves being out there. Kimmie does need to project more. I felt she was almost there at Worlds, when she realized she was having a terrific skate.

A note in today's Detroit newpaper reports that Alissa has managed to "clear her schedule" and will appear in the Detroit COI show after all. (It had been reported earlier that she would have to miss the date due to a previous commitment.)

Haha, I bet they made her an offer she couldn't refuse. She will be a huge draw here in her home town. If COI is smart they'll promote the heck out of it. :)

I was seriously thinking about making the 4 hour trip to see COI and this news may be the clincher. The first time I had even heard of Alissa was when I went to see the Marshalls cheesefest a few years ago in Auburn Hills. Shizuka pulled out at the last minute and Alissa replaced her. Needless to say I was impressed, and I have been a big fan of hers ever since. Thanks for the tip Mathman!

That woman looks more like Nancy Kerrigan to me.
That woman was a great actress in her day and an Academy Award Winner not mention nominated several times. Check out Hud someday with Paul Newman.

No, she's not a duplicate of Alissa, and certainly not Nancy. But neither is Alissa even close to Audrey Hepburn.

MM - How did you get that picture up? It just wouldn't go for me.

I couldn't figure out how to get the picture by itself, either. So I had to post the url of the whole page that the picture is on.

Actually, GSk8 says this is the right way to do it anyway. If you give a link to the whole page, this gives credit to the copyright holder. "Deeplinking" directly to the jpeg file is kind of a grey area in Internet courtesy.

During Nationals, Uncle Dick & others kept talking about the Alissa/Audrey Hepburn connection, but isn't the music she skates to from the more recent Julia Ormond version of Sabrina? I didn't know that the original 1950's Sabrina soundtrack was even available. Hmmm...

By the way, if you want to see both Audrey and Patrica Neal on the screen together, just check out Breakfast at Tiffany's. Patricia Neal played the "interior decorator" who was "keeping" George Peppard's character...

Thanks for the tip although i am much too clumsy to be able to do that sort of thing. I'll just call on you to do it ;)

Nubka. Thank you for the cast of Breakfast at Tiffanys. I had forgotten Neal was in that too along side of Hepburn. Great movie. great cast. great cat.

Yes, Alissa's free skate music is from the 1995 film soundtrack of "Sabrina" (Julia Ormond/Harrison Ford/Greg Kinnear remake). I've previously searched online for the original "Sabrina" soundtrack and have never found it.

There's a lot of Moon River in it.

Perhaps this is a subject for a whole new thread, but does anybody think it should be mandatory for every skinny skater to pretend to be Audrey Hepburn at some point? We've already had Alissa Czisny as Sabrina, Amber Corwin as Holly Golightly and Sasha Cohen as Eliza Doolittle. I can't wait to watch Kimmie Meissner don a nun's habit and become Sister Luke.

Oh, that's mean. But funny!
But your point is well taken. I'd rather see Kimmie take on Funny Face, though. (Audrey is a beautiful model in that film, BTW. I missed the beginning and don't know where the "funny face" name came from. And Fred - playing the photographer - is one to talk!)

But Moon River was created for Breakfast at Tiffany's, wasn't it? I have the soundtrack, and there it is. Sabrina was years before Breakfast at Tiffanys.
Anyway, I know I'm nitpicking, but it just bugs me when Dick and others all jump on the bandwagon and start comparing Alissa (whom I like, ) to Audrey. If anything, I'd be comparing her to Julia Ormond...

I know that Amber Corwin skated to Moon River and other selections from Breakfast at Tiffanys.

Another Audrey flick, Funny Face, has lots of music that would be great to skate to.

As for The Nun's Story, it's my all-time favorite Audrey flick. Rock on, Kimmie, and do with it what you can, lol!!

There's a scene where Astair and Hepburn are in a darkroom where he is developing her photos. He takes one look at that beautiful face on film and breaks into a song (of course!) "I love your funny face, your sunny, funny, face...for your a cutie, with more than beauty, you've got a lot of personality..."
