Gloria Estefen was the guest judge tonight.

Diana - Turn the Beat Around. This was her best night. Gloria mentioned giving her a song that fit her age. Great job IMO. Agree with Simon regarding the dress. It looked too tight and all of the splits in the skirt started at the widest part of her hips/legs, not flattering.

LaToya - Rhythm Is Going to Get You. Also a very good night. Was more spontaneous and had some good dance moves. Looked great. I think she will be this year's Idol.

George - All I Want to Do. So glad he got an upbeat song this week. Not his best but enjoyed the joy in his performance.

Fantasia - Get On Your Feet. Good energy as usual but not the best song for her voice...too squeeky

Jasmine - Here We Are. An OK night. The stringy hair in her eyes was very distracting.

John - Music of My Heart. This was painful to watch and I hate that for this kid. It is cruel to drag him through another week.

I really think that this was Diana's week but would tie her with LaToya. George, Fantasia, and Jasmine in any order for the next three and finally John.

1. Latoya-Easily the best but was still off.

2. Jasmine/Diana

4. Fantasia (loved her shout-outs to Jennifer)

5. George

HUGE GAP

6. John-Maybe the worst ever performance on AI.

This was an all around bad night, but if John doesn't go than something is very wrong.

My rankings:

1) LaToya - I hated the song on her...but she was able to pull it off pretty well. There were some good vocal moments...but few and far between.

2) Jasmine - This is tough, because the beginning and end were great, but the middle had some MAJOR pitch problems. It sounded as though she was a half step under pitch in the middle. But she has a gorgeous, rich voice in the mid-lower range.

3) Fantasia - I got annoyed with all the "We love you jennifer" shout outs. But...her singing was ok, though I tend to think that when she has to sing quick moving lines, and isn't given a chance to use her vibrato or her "hey hey yeah yeah"s she loses a lot of the energy in her performances, and has a somewhat immature quality to her voice. She had good energy though.

4) Diana - She showed great energy...but her vocals didn't do much for me. There wasn't too much singing involved, so i think I'm ranking her here based on her stage presence. She sounds to me like she's unhealthily belting (pretty much yelling) in her higher range a lot.

5) George - the performance tonight did nothing for me. Not the vocals, nor the dancing. His voice really isn't suited to this music, and although he tried to fake it, the enthusiasm just didn't seem like it was there tonight.

6) John - oy. I suppose I'm glad he did this instead of one of the more uptempo things. His pitch wasn't terrible tonight, but some of his vowel shapes were odd, and choosing this slow of a song really highlights how immature and young sounding his voice is at this point in his development. I'm Glad, however, that Simon complimented him on his attitude; I think he needed that. That said...I REALLY hope...for our sake and for his...that he isn't back next week.

I think Simon said it so the John fans wouldn't think he was in danger. Maybe it will stop them from voting as much.

Hehe...i totally agree with that. And I hope it works.

As a John Stevens fan... I'm going with my gut... and I think he needs to go. There are death threats coming through according to American Idol's producer Nigel Lithgow(sp)... This breaks my heart... but I think I'll have to watch John leave this wednesday!

Wow, just listening to the "Miami Sound Machine" inspired me to dash off to Amazon.com during one of the breaks and ordered Gloria Esteban's "Greatest Hits" vol. I. They were awesome!!

Now back to the contestants: Here are my rankings.....
1. LaToya.....She had the voice, the moves, and the look...but what did she do to her hair? Yikes!!
2. Jasmine....despite a couple of pitch problems, (very minor) in the middle, I thought she was great!!
3. Fantasia
4.Diane.....I thought she had major pitch problems, but she looked great and had high energy.
5. George

6. John

DEATH THREATS?! Oh, now this is just getting silly. That poor kid.

My solution to last week's voting issue was to vote for my top three. I'm a little concerned, because it took so little time to get through. My vote for Fantasia was at 9:00 PM and I got through on the first try. My votes for numbers 2 and 3 were in by 9:09.
Hmmm...
Until tomorrow night!

Raven, I have been trying to get through for Jasmine and LaToya, but no luck so far.......their lines are always busy....I'm off to try again...............42

My opinion of this week : :sheesh: :rolleye:

1. Diana - She was the best tonight IMO. She was energetic, looked like she was having fun, & she did sound good (at least compared w/ the others).

2. LaToya - Glad she finally moved around, but her vocals weren't as good as usual.

3. Jasmine - Not so great, but there were flashes of her good voice.

4. Fantasia - I don't like her singing Latin music.

5. George - It seems like he's getting worse each week instead of better. If he doesn't improve next week, then he needs to go...

6. John - I really feel sorry for the kid. He can't help it if people are keeing him in, & it's not his fault the judges put him through even though he's not cut out for this competition. I agreed w/ Simon's comments on John's behavior/attitude & I think Simon was being sincere. Of course I also agreed w/ Simon's comments about John & Latin music going together like chocolate ice cream & onions...

But as usual, who knows who will be voted off!

pretty much agreeing with what everyone said...

1- La Toya - I thought she was awesome tonight, her dancing and singing, I felt like she had been doing this for years. She was fab!!

2- Diana - WOW! I am so happy for her, I love her and she is one of my faves. She had been struggling a bit in recent weeks, so it's nice to see her have such an "on" night.

3- Jasmine - It started out awesome. It lost power in the middle and was pitchy and off key. She worked it out toward the end. I enjoyed it overall though.

4- George - I am still iffy about him. It was just alright, I wasn't really that into it, I can't stand his bouncing, it makes him really hard to watch.

5- Fantasia - Definetly not her best. Just like last week, she is struggling. I don't know what's going on, she's normally so on and powerful. I don't like her voice anyways, but she wasn't with it tonight.

6- John - Jesus, Mary, and Joesph get this kid out of here. I cannot fathom how he managed to stay in this long. He should have been out the week Camile left IMO, and how long ago was that. Seriously if he doesn't leave... I'll be so upset. I can't take another week of this.

I am sure La Toya will be going home or something lol. No, I think John will be leaving this week, without a doubt.

I think this was the poorest choice of a theme ever on 3 seasons of AI. Simon was right when he said that, this week, "pleasant is good". Lame. The good news is that I don't think anyone was horrible, but all but one of the songs performed were ill-suited for a singing competition, and the one that was a good song wasn't written by Gloria Estefan & MSM. Also, at least Gloria was honest about not being willing to judge the contestants.

My rankings:

1. Diana - Never thought I'd ever put her first! But this great disco song works well as a latin song, and it went perfectly with her voice and her personality. A couple of problems with the notes, but the performance was strong enough to override them, plus she gets points for being able to move while she was singing - everyone else had to dance while they weren't singing (or the dancing affected their singing). Ok, the dress wasn't that flattering, but it was better than what she usually wears.

2. George - I thought George rocked! His voice sounded great - for the first time in the Top 12, his low register didn't sound forced, and there was very little rasp. I don't know why all 3 judges were so put off by this performance.

3. LaToya - rough song, there are so many breaks where there's nothing to do but dance. LaToya did a good job with that, but it made me notice how little she was singing. I agree with Simon that she needed to show a different side to her personality. By the time LaToya got her comments (after Fantasia and George) I was convinced the judges were deliberately giving tepid responses to try to stave off the voter backlash against the singers the judges like.

4. Fantasia - I agree with Randy - Fantasia's performance was miles better than her vocals this week. I really noticed with Fantasia that this was not a style that suits her too well, but she did what she could with it. The producers showed her kid again.

5. Jasmine - I thought this was a very good performance for Jasmine, with some real maturity. Unfortunately, I have yet to see Jasmine perform an entire song without a bunch of noticeable clunker notes tossed in there. i origianlly had Jasmine and Fantasia tied, but Fantasia does a much better job of cloaking any off notes in her performance, whereas Jasmine's always stick out very clearly.

6. John - I thought this was one of John's better performances. Definitely a day late and a dollar short, but he IS improving. John has gotten much more comfortable on stage, and tonight I could hear glimpses of what his voice could become. Still miles behind the others, but I don't find him anywhere near as cringe-worthy as he was a couple of weeks ago.

I am worried about everyone tonight. It seems like Fantasia and LaToya should be getting a lot of support from people outraged about last week - but they both got so-so comments from the judges. I thought George rebounded very well from the last 2 weeks, but I don't see a ton of people agreeing with me. Even Simon seems to have accepted that John's fans are unlikely to let him off the show.

I'm going to say that the bottom 3 will be: Jasmine, George and Fantasia (because she went first), with Jasmine going. Despite her performance tonight, I wouldn't mind if Diana were in the bottom 3 or booted tomorrow.

My rankings:
1. Diana - In my opinion, she was easily the best considering that was a hard song to pull off. A true "Idol" performance.
2. George - no comment
3. Jasmine - I loved that song and for her to belt it out was excellent!
4. LaToya - I don't like her singing Latin music
5. Fantasia - One of her worst performances on the show; I thought non-Latin rock suited her more.
6. John - He's a very good singer, but certainly in my humble opinion does not sound right for AI. Needs to go.

We thought Diana nailed it last night too.
Is it me, or was the band too loud? Do they (the singers) just not have enough lung power? Heard Gloria and the MSM on VH1 classic this morning, and you can easily hear her singing.
1 Diana (the only one I could hear with no problems, and she sounded great to me!)
2 Latoya (not her best, but she's still really good)
3 Jasmine (what can I say? I like her singing)
4 George ( not his best either :()
5 Fantasia (she just didn't look comfortable last night. It was like she had to really try this time. But she still has total control of her voice. I have a feeling she'll be a star even if she doesn't win this)
6 John. Have to agree with Randy about John. Not very many right notes at all. We winced through most of his song.

What is next weeks theme?

This week was especially Zzzzzzz for me, as I've never been too fond of Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine.

That being said, here's my rankings:

1. Diana DeGarmo - Great energy, "got" how the song should be, and stayed on pitch and had control better than just about every performance I've seen from her. She seems to be losing the Mouseketeer image, thank heavens.

2. LaToya London - Good performance for her, but seemed a little uninspired, and like she was focusing more on her dancing than the singing itself.

3. Jasmine Trias - She started out well, but completely fell off towards the end (is she the SashaStamina(tm) performer of AI this season?). Had she been able to maintain energy and pitch throughout the song, I'd have had her in second, and possibly first.

4. George Huff - He needs to stop dancing like a toddler bouncing in a Johnny Jump-up. Decent performance, and seemed to be having fun on stage, but didn't do anything really special to stand out.

5. Fantasia Barrino - By far her worst performance. Vocals seemed mailed in, and while I don't remember any "yeah yeah yeahs, " the constant Jennifer references were a real turnoff, almost sending a message to the viewers about how pissed she was. That could potentially backfire on her. Nearly pissed myself laughing at Simon's comparison to Donald Duck on helium comment - I've been saying that since the start of the competition (the helium part, not the Donald Duck part).

6. John Stevens - Finally seems to be putting some emotion into his performances, but is still off pitch most of the time and lacks any real power to his voice. If there's any sort of a god who's watching this show, please put him out of his misery (and ours).

Death threats against....????

John... and I guess Ryan Seacrest... though they're coming to the AI fan mail...

and there was a DJ who went into details on how one could "do away with" with John during his first concert

now on to my assessment

Note to AI: Never do Latin again!!

That was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo uninspired last night... no one really blew me away... For Diana to be the best of the evening you know it had to have been the selection... because all in all she wasn't THAT GREAT anyway...

my rankings (like Randy said, last night was obviously going to have to be decided by performance)

1. Diana -- not saying she was great... but at least she got the mood... hated that skirt... she needs to learn how to stand so that it's not really ugly in that skirt LOL

2. George -- he was good... not his best, but then, who was?

3. John -- I liked it... he attempted it... it wasn't any worse than anyone elses... a little pitchy... but a tender moment... gotta love a kid who sings to his G'Ma.... (I know I said I wouldn't vote for him... but I wanted to see if I could get through... in the 20 mins I voted I got through 5 times... so EITHER AI is blocking votes to go to him so that he doesn't get killed by some crazed wacko fanatic of Jennifer Hudson or people are still voting for him... and stronger than ever! my best friend tried voting for George and got through once in the two hours... very weird... normally Alaska has no problems getting through! )

4. Latoya -- dancing did nothing for me

5. Fantasia -- I was really annoyed with the "This is For You Jennifer" "I love you Jennifer" every few beats... besides... if that was all she wanted to give to Jennifer... then they're not good friends... it was so totally off for Fantasia tonight... she had a good boob jiggle though :rolleye:

6. Jasmine -- after she got sick and then better her voice went away... I think all of the younger kids started off strong, but are getting weaker... :(

My thoughts on the night:

I could not concentrate on Fantasia's singing. He breasts bouncing were all I could see. Please girls, wear a bra!

Diana was good...and I liked the dress.

All in all, it was a crappy night. A LOT OF IT HAD TO DO WITH THE CRAPPY SONGS THEY WERE USING. Whoops, caps lock is on. I'm getting used to a new keyboard. ANYway the songs were not suited to a singing copetition. I think Jasmine had the best song selection. She started her performance so well...but then...I don't know what happened...but it didn't sound good.

What I think AI should be doing to get better performances is STOP THEME NIGHTS! Lert the performers pick their own song, something they can sing. BLAH to AI's producers...this season they are really annoying me with their choices for the show. I will never get over what they did to George last week. Well, thats a whole other rant. BLAH!

I don't think they should do away with theme nights, but maybe they could broaden the themes a little. Soul night was a good example. There's tons of songs to choose from all from the same style of music. They could also do something like a 60's or 70's night. I think they've done that before.

Making these people sing only Gloria Estefan songs is just too monotonous. If they had done like was originally thought, Latin night, we might have seen some more variety and some better performances.

Death threats against John???!! Jesus Christ, if they want him to go they should vote for their favorites as many times as they want. And I don't think it's appropriate that they wanna kill him because they don't like him. That's going too far. If they don't like him, FINE. That's okay, but jeez man. Death threats...

Oh and if one's complaining why Jasmine's line is busy, blame it on me. :p
