American Idol April 20/21

PIEL!!! YESSSS!!! Thank ya, honey!!! This has been annoying me for about the last two years when Julie's last name inexplicably dropped from my memory after 33 years of being in it. If you ever heard her, she was great, right? A timeless voice.
(BTW, I got the PMs from you, MM, and others about my mom and so far so good. You all are so sweet to ask. I'm trying to stayoff the Internet in case of calls, but I called tonight and she's okay 36 post-op, so given the enormity of tonight's AI happenings, lol, I wrote my posts off-line and pasted them on. But I'll get back to you guys soon. Thanks again for asking.:))

Trust me, if JPL was still around we would be seeing someone trying to do Ricky's dance moves!

As for 'She Bangs' I must quote Marlon Brando/Kurtz: 'The horror...the horror...':p
ROFL! But I must restore the reputation of my memory. "The horror, the horror," was actually written by Joseph Conrad in his book "Heart of Darkness" on which the film "Apocalypse Now" was based and script adapted from Conrad by Francis Ford Coppola. Actually, Brando was so out of it on the set--running neck and neck with Dennis Hopper--that he had his lines on little cards all over the set out of camera line, lol.

But no matter who said it, given the scenario it's a PERFECT line.

Rgirl, I remember her being on shows like Mike Douglas. There was even a rumor that she was Barbra Striesand's little sister, LOL..( Rosalind Kind is Bab's sister) Favorite Barbra moment... on the live album to raise money for George McGovern when she is talking about her stage fright..."we must face our fears head on!" In college my roomates and I if properly chemically enhanced could do a mean version of Laura Nyro's "Stony End" not as good as Bab's or Linda Ronstadt but way better than Marilyn McCoo.:D

Glad all is well.
Hugs,

Jasmine needs to go? No way! She's got talent, appeal, youth, and sparkling personality, not to mention ### appeal, which does sell albums and concert tickets which adds up to $$$ which is what AI is about.......

The judges shouldn't quibble about who's left in the group...they put them through initially after all.....

Anyway, I though they were eventually going to break up the "Diva" thing, but not this soon. Totally thought that Tonya, Fantasia, Jasmine, and Diane should have been safe tonight and they were..........this is exciting!!!!! 42

Not much to add here beyond what's been said already, but I gotta agree with Simon (only I'LL say the term correctly) -- "Jaw --- floor" [He actually said tongue, floor, which implies something ENTIRELY different as far as I'm concerned:D ] I wasn't a huge Jennifer fan either, and actually I have less of a gripe about the fact she was voted off than I do about THE OVERALL BOTTOM 3. I mean, come on here!!! Last night may have been out of whack all the way around IMO, but not enough to cause that!! What's next, Dianna and John as the Final 2?????

You're right Rgirl about the Conrad novella, one of my all-time faves. That's why I said I was quoting both Brando and Kurtz(although the character's name is the same in the movie and the book).

Have you ever seen the making of 'Apocalypse Now'? It's actually called 'Heart of Darkness' and it is just fantastic.

With all of the compliments you've been giving me about my AI memory I decided to pay tribute to you through my new sigline!;)

And it's Nikki over Tamyra, take two (red hair even included).

I will hold all who have voted for John Stevens personally responsible when I go postal next week, having to watch "It" do Latin music. I will use the his name in my defense. "Temporary insanity related to subjection to harsh and cruel auditory abuse", aka the John Stevens defense.

I was never a huge Jennifer fan, but this is a total travesty.

I fully agree we need the ONE VOTE per telephone number instituted (so what if someone has three phones? So they get three votes...better than three hundred). But of course, that will never happen because then they can't talk about the 25 million votes that are cast each week.

But geeze, wake up and clean your ears people! Vote for TALENT! Not "who's cute". Not "the young one". NOT "the nice kid". Ruben won on being "Nice". But even HE had a better voice than some of these people who weren't even in the bottom three this week. It is a TALENT contest, for crying out loud!!

(Where is the spewing vomit emoticon when you need it??)

Show, I'm a fan of Jasmine, however, she is not as talented as Fantasia or Latoya. That's why I said she has to go. I don't mean right away, but she shouldn't win this competition because she's not on the same level as those two, let alone the previous Idol winners. I just can't imagine saying Kelly, Ruben, and Jasmine in the same breath.

John should go next, followed by Diana, then either Jasmine or George. Of course that's JMO.

Mike, I read somewhere that the producers of the show do have some say in the final outcome each week....can tweak the votes if they need to mix it up a bit. That's why I'm not too worried that the most talented of the group will be "voted" in as the winner....

I voted for Jasmine for an hour last night and only got through three times so I felt pretty good that she might be safe...

Julie Budd.....I loved her, but always thought she didn't get the recognition she deserved because she sounded too much like Streisand.........

I think the producers want a talented singer, of course, to win, but talent doesn't always mean big sales........remember John Davidson.......cute as a button, fantastic voice, had his own variety show in the 60's (or 70's), but didn't have staying power, not the long haul kind. I think that's why Rubeun's sales are down and Clay's are up.........staying power, personality, talent............42 Out (Sorry, just had to try that once...) :D

Come on now Kasey. Whether you liked Ruben or not he didn't win on just being nice. He won because of having a great appeal, as well as having several brilliant performances early in the competition, and then he did well enough each week to hold on.

RIP Jennifer

Sigh. I heard earlier today that a "fan favorite" was going tonight...one person was convinced that Fantasia was getting the boot, but I was pretty sure it would be Jennifer. She never had the fan base of either Fantasia or LaToya, and I didn't think that either Diana or Jasmine would qualify as a shocking dismissal (and the leak implied it would be a woman leaving). I'm disgusted, but not surprised. Diana and Jasmine both sang better last night than they had in weeks (IMO both sang the best ever last night), and while I think their best is worse than LaFannifer with laryngitis, and marked improvement always inspred votes, whereas consistently high performances only motivate established fans to vote. I am glad George stuck around.

And John? I knew he'd be safe. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if he got the highest # of votes - his best performance (even I said it!) would get a lot of first-time voters, plus you know his fans who were shocked that he was finally in the bottom 3 last week were working overtime on the phones this week. I hadn't considered JPL's fans jumping ship to John, I guess that could have happened - but I think the other factors were more than enough to guarantee another week of Teen Martin. I just don't have the energy to get into it anymore.

I do, however, have a bone to pick with the producers about this Group A/Group B BS. It was obvious right away that they were setting us up for a big "WOAH!" moment. Bad enough to do the stupid groups, but making poor George walk to "The Top Group" was just mean to everyone involved - cruel to George for making him make the assumption anyone with a brain would, mean to LaFannifer for taunting them with their bottom 3-ness, and mean to Jasmine, Diana and John for pointing out that almost everyone in that audience thought they should be the bottom 3. I see that the producers were trying to make a point, but I thought that was spectacularly poorly executed. Adding insult to injury, the credits cut off Jennifer's song after about 4 bars!

The one "good" thing about Jennifer's departure is that, hopefully, the old fogeys (like me!!) who either don't vote, or who only vote for say 30 minutes instead of 2 solid hours will be irritated enough to get in with the hardcore voting from here on out.

I can not generate much enthusiasm for next week's alleged salsa night. Hope this is yet another fakeout and we get something else. Perhaps some Gregorian Chanting?

I agree with this...it was cruel for all involved.

If next week truly is "salsa night", I may have to just watch the results show. I don't think I can handle watching Diana or John attempt a latin rhythm....Yikes.

Oh, and Mike....I did and DO like Ruben, and there were a few weeks when I caught the "ruben factor"....I just thought most weeks he coasted on an okay voice but spectacular personality. I was not unhappy that he won.

Kasey

Has it been verified that it's actually going to be "Salsa Night"?? I heard Gloria Estefan was going to be guest judge so I assumed it was going to be -- shudder and head for the hills -- Miami Sound Machine Night!

OH, THE RHYTHM IS GONNA GET US, ALL RIGHT!!!!!!!

This is what happens when they allow people to vote continuously. It is totally bogus and unfair. Far too many talented singers are being sent home. When the 3 best singers are getting the least amount of votes, you know something ain't right.
I just don't know how you all justify this.
One vote per phone number is the only fair way.

so do like the rest of us... vote continuously... or don't complain

Jennifer, Latoya, and Fantasia were in the bottom three not because those of us who just don't know what we're doing voted any harder/more than any other time... but because their fans voted less. it happend last season and the season before... so don't act all surprised when it happens this year LOL

Oh I'm sorry... I thought that's what it was all about :rolleye: I AM VOTING ON TALENT... I love John's VOICE and STYLE... tough if you don't. Don't insult my decision just because you don't like it...

I will proudly vote for the two hours if nessecary...

I think I read that same article... however, I believe it was found out to be a hoax... if it was the interview with Matt Rogers then yeah that WAS a hoax

If next week truly is "salsa night", I may have to just watch the results show. I don't think I can handle watching Diana or John attempt a latin rhythm....Yikes.

He could sing "Dance With Me" the way that Michael Bublé did on his album and I think it'd work... but that's just me... I think he could find an old latin song that would fit his style...

his best performance (even I said it!) would get a lot of first-time voters, plus you know his fans who were shocked that he was finally in the bottom 3 last week were working overtime on the phones this week. Actually, just going by online comments, most JPL fans are pissed at John Stevens because he wasn't the one to go and JPL was... George has a lot of the online JPLers voting for him (though the crazied Clay fans who loved JPL are screaming the show is rigged). Just thought I'd throw that out there.

And what was with Paula's witchy attitude? She should NOT name names... even Simon and Randy have had the decency not to say who should really be in teh bottom three... so yeah... bad Paula faux-paux (sp?)

They really need to limit the voting like they do on other shows. The contestant who wins should win based on talent and the most number of fans overall. Not the largest amount of obsessives who have nothing better to do but vote for two hours straight. It's ridiculous.

I completely agree Toni. When fans become complacent it means that their favorite might be in trouble.

There is a little problem this season, however. With Fantasia, Jennifer, and Latoya more than likely splitting a lot of votes it can cause what happenned last night. When someone like John is around, a guy that is completely different from the rest of the group, a group of fans will be loyal to him alone. If there are a lot of people that like John they will vote for him for most of the night, as opposed to people who might throw votes to all three of the divas.

you know... It's true that I don't have "a life"... so what if I don't. It bugs the crap out of me... but that doesn't mean I shouldn't be allowed to vote... man... what can I do... I get it from all sides... I'm such a loser.

it's just like Josh last year

I don't expect John making it to the top three... top 4 is definately a possibility though... George is going to win it all, baby! ;)

I stick by my wish that we could vote for the person who we want to leave. It would be almost sadistic in a way, but it would potentially bring about a more balanced voting system.

I actually wanted that this year

I'm so sick of Diana and Fantasia

but after three years of voting for the favorite... could you see the mistakes happening????
