Anna Pogorilaya

all the best for strong and beautiful Anna, only love and understanding around her and no regrets! I wish her only success, happiness and joy taken from skating and this given to us. I think she is a rare gem of a skater and a performer to self-expose herself emotionally without hesitation and boundaries on ice; she pours her heart and soul in every performance, even those not successful technically.

May the next seasons be best for Anna, only best programs, music and costumes for her!!!:cheer::hb:

Happy Birthday Anna, I hope you can take all the difficulty from this season and forge an even better new year. Everyone is rooting for you.

Was Anna injured at the words or just had a bad day? I cry every time I watch her doing that program.

her recent interview

my rough translation(interviewer phrases are bold ones):

Bronze medalist of the 2016 Worlds, Anna Pogorilaya, told about her attitude to competition in the Russian team, and also called the skating of the Italian Carolina Costner a reference.

- "The season came to the end in Helsinki, and there, at the last start, I again came to the familiar conclusion: don't stop working. I know that I can work. I know that everything is possible, but to adjust myself to the fact that I'm ideal ... I'm not perfect, but I can correct, eliminate many of my shortcomings" - said the figure skater.

- During that ill-fated free skating at the World Championships it seemed that you want to throw everything right there on the ice.

- No. There was no such thing.

- But there was a sad pause.

- Pause - yes. Inhale - exhale, let's go further.

- The Russian Championship is very "cheerful" when you do not get on the podium with 215 points?

- What do you mean?

- At first you had two rivals, then they became five, now - ten.

- All 18 are already rivals, all of them skate clean. Why should i worry about this?

- Do you feel like you would be on top if you would compete for the national team of any other country?

- I'm on top anyway.

- I mean the very top.

- What's the point to compete in the country which has no competition? My rivals are pushing me.

- Who is your favorite(ideal in your opinion) skater?

- Carolina Costner, only she. I really like her skating. She worked really hard to achieve such skating, but the fact is that hard work is not the only factor.

- What you can't do?

- For me, nothing is impossible.

P.S. love her answers to provocative questions

Brit Eurosport said she was on fire during practice the day of the FS but that her back was heavily taped. So I think the bad skate was mostly due to nerves, that being said, the popped lutz and fall on the flip at the beginning did seem jarring on her back, so that may have affected the rest of her program. Hard to say.

I love Anna so much and hope she can have a great season! This past season was pretty great overall to be honest, just unfortunate that her one bad skate of the season came at Worlds.

Rise like a Phoenix Anna!

We weren't at the Ladies practices on the day of the FS, but earlier in the week (Wednesday) we were rinkside when Anna was practicing... and at first, we thought her back was heavily taped too.

But when she was up close, we saw that it was actually just a "design feature" of her outfit - wide strips of white webbing, which showed though "holes" in the dark fabric at the back... which made it look like her back was taped. I deliberately took a few close-up photos at the time, to double-check - and close inspection of the zoomed-in photos confirmed the strips were part of her costume, not stuck to her back.

Unfortunately I didn't keep any of those photos, but you can see a little bit of what I mean in THIS PHOTO.

If it was the same practice costume on the day of the FS, the Eurosport guys may have been fooled - just as we were at first. Especially bearing in mind that the British Eurosport guys were stationed quite far from the rink (row 20, one row from the back... and weren't equipped with big-zoom cameras...!)

And certainly, no tape was visible during her actual FS...

Wow, yeah...looks like tape, that could've fooled anyone. Anyway, I still believe the disastrous free was all thanks to her mind and panicking/overthinking. It had nothing to do with injury. I really missed her at WTT. Elena is a darling and an entertainer like no other. But her jumps....I don't know if she'll ever be back at the top. Her skating just doesn't look powerful to me. And Anna's programs this season were much better. Oh dear.

Maybe it's just because I'm a fan but I don't think Anna's Olympic chances are over. If she skates well next season and is beating the other girls in contention I think she will be given a spot on the team. Simple as that. My thought is that she probably won't be used in the team event if she does make the team, but thats because consistency matters more for the team event and Med is so consistent that she will probably skate both programs for the team.

Anna had one very bad FS at Worlds to cap off an otherwise very good season. Sotskova didn't have any major meltdowns and her season started off well, but she lost a lot of momentum at Euros and Worlds by not skating/scoring/placing so well (for Russian ladies standards) at either event. Rafionova's whole season was just okay, Tuk's was worse than that. My thought is that this kind of puts everyone that isn't Med or Zagitova (who IMO may still be a question mark due to her age and looming puberty) at a clean slate so whoever skates best next season will be on the team.

I think what Elena has going for her is her charm and kind of consistency, but that won't be enough. Her skating hasn't kept up with her growth, and as a fan I already feared this when I saw a video of her tiny self with her bear of a father. Zagitova looks good now, but who knows what happens next season. The only sure bet is Med for the Olympics. I think she could also finish off podium at some of her comps and would be sent. For Anna, I do think it is in her own hands. If she has a season like this season she should be on the team, no doubt.

Sorry for the double post, but I wonder if any of the Russian members have heard news about her? She didn't post much on Instagram during April. It's been a month since Worlds, and I wonder how she's doing.

i haven't seen anything interesting, but if you will find something - let me know, i can help with translation

Here are some photos I took of Anna at World's in Helsinki...

The last photo shows her looking bright-eyed and cheerful, the day after her free skate: she was already putting her disappointment behind her. It was wonderful to see her smiling...!
