Anna Pogorilaya

OMG! I just talked to Anna in person!!!! She said that she’s ok, her back still hurts so she won’t be at the gala but she will be fine! She’s also wearing the “little fox” that I gave her yesterday, which makes me so happy! See my instagram post! https://instagram.com/p/Ba11xCXAqXh/
Gorgeous photo of two beautiful young ladies! So happy that you got to meet and talk with Anna! Love the fox!

Thank you! Anna liked my post!!! My friend told me that I hugged her too! I almost had a blackout movement and was not sure if I did 😅 Anna is so nice and sincere even though she looks so queenly! I really hope that I expressed the love to her from all of you and she feels loved by so many fans!

What a fun experience and a beautiful photo. Lucky you! Did you speak to her in English?

Just seen this piccy; you are both absolute stunners!

Thank you so much, demarinis5, Arriba627, Jan elle! Yes, I spoke with her in English! I was wearing the vest that I got from volunteering at 2016 World Figure Skating Championships. I pointed at the logo and told her that I’ve loved her since I saw her amazing performance in Boston! I think she understood everything! And she said “that’s so nice. Thank you!” It is no secret how beautiful Anna is, but I was still so stunned when I saw her natural beauty without any make up. She also has a great sense of fashion, very elegant with her burberry scarf and beige shawl. I could see the sincerity in her eyes, a little bit surprised haha! I can say that she’s really amazing inside and out!

I wish I could see a transcript of the discussion between Anna and coach in the K&C after the free skate....does anyone have it?

Updates on Anna's medical situation:

Tsareva says that the back injury is an old one, but that was made considerably worse after Anna took a bad fall over the summer. Apparently while previous medical examinations had shown that there was no serious issue with her back, she was unable to train her full load over the summer due to pain. Tsareva is unclear about what the treatment plan for Anna will be at this time. The director of the Russian fed says that the fed will pay for Anna to get treatment abroad if necessary. Neither Anna P nor Tsareva have reached out to the fed as of right now.

This news is both heartening and concerning to me -- it finally looks like the fed is stepping in on Anna's behalf, but I find it difficult to understand how Anna being in enough pain to hinder her training all summer didn't prompt a more thorough medical examination/physical therapy. It also makes Tsareva's words to Anna after the skate harder to bear -- if Anna has been in enough pain all summer to hinder her training and keep her from fully running her long program, I don't understand how Tsareva expected Anna to do well on her first international outing. Either way, here's to hoping Anna finally gets the attention she needs and recovers back to full health.

There is my attempt to translate their conversation ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmpckb1p4fs )

Tsareva: Now we have to work on free skate as on short program. There is no other way. Why are you always "dying", I can't understand? Your legs are not behaving?
Pogo: What?
Tsareva: Your legs are not behaving?
Pogo: I tried to calm down myself, but vise versa...
Tsareva: Oh, I see.
Pogo: I'm trying but... (shows how she was shaking)
Tsareva: Don't you think that you have more skate from the beginning to the end? The programme. More skate it from the beginning to the end at trainings? Not once a week but more often?
Pogo: Did I "die" at this FS?
Tsareva: You just should watch it taped.
Pogo: I will, but it was much better and easier.
Tsareva: Oh, I don't know, what if harder is better?

(pause to listen the points)

Pogo: And entrance into a spin I didn't performed too?
Tsareva: Anya, watch it later in slow motion, with what wooden legs did you skate.
Pogo: Watch how did [you] twitch me.
Tsareva: I will not come close to you at all. If you want, you can fly to next skate alone. You should have prepare well.

That last sentence
Poor Anna.

I don't think it's working between them. I've heard some athletes thrive on 'tough love', but clearly not Anna.
I hope she finds another coach.

Averbukh with more defense of Anya -- says her issue is clearly her injury, and that her lack of physical fitness plus her drive to win is what caused her Canadian meltdown.

Updates on Anna's medical situation:
.

Thank you Alifyre for all the update. I really don't like their attitude in this situation. Tsareva said " Perhaps, some decision on this matter should be taken by the figure skating federation.” The RUS Fed said “But the initiative here should go from the athlete herself and her coach” So who is making the decision here? Sounds like they’re both trying to find excuses for not paying adequate attention to Anna’ health and putting the blame on each other. I guess only Anna can make the decision herself at this point, but we know that she’s a fighter and will probably not quit easily even though it might be better for her to do that. I think maybe Anna can see the same doctor that Viktoria Komova did in Germany. Maybe it’s better for her to stay away from all the stress and scandals in Russia, but hopefully she can bring her cat Michael with her! As long as she has the love for figure skating, she can always come back when her injury heals and will be greeted by the love of supporting fans.

honestly i find it really distressing that she went to SC with such a serious injury that she was not able to even do one run through of her LP in practice. What was her team thinking? There was absolutely no chance that it was gonna go well, especially since Anna is a confidence skater who is prone to meltdown, the toll of the injury not only physical but mental was insurmountable.
I understand it is olympic season but clearly a meltdown like that AND the aggravation of her injury, both of which were foreseeable in her condition, are really not gonna help her.
I hope she can heal and find a coaching team that puts her interests 1st. All my support to her, this situation makes me angry

Anna had posted a short glimpse of her choreography from Swan Lake on Instagram in July here....when I actually saw that move at Skate Canada, I thought, oh yes, that's from Instagram, wait...why doesn't she bend? She wasn't even able to do that, so she definitely wasn't ready. I really do hope we'll get to see a clean Swan Lake of her one day. I know it is probably a wonderful engaging program, so I'm so sad about how all things went.

Federation knowing Anna's back pains is something good and bad at the same time. It's ok for her health, so she will have the best doctors and the best teraphy, but her chance to go to Olympics are severely reduced to almost zero since Fed never let her go to Olympics and risk a withdraw or a bad performance.

Tsareva defending the dialogue between her and Anna as a normal conversation between athlete and coach, says they have a serious working relationship. Also says that doctors have not been able to determine the cause of Anna's pain, but that it keeps her from training.

I find it so strange that she could have so much pain and the doctors have no idea what's wrong? Like I have a bad back injury, so I have a pretty good idea of what's standard for checking them out. Like my first couple of chiros couldn't figure out what was wrong with me, but one trip to the orthopedic surgeon got it figured out. Are they not getting MRIs and Xrays done for her? I find it really hard to believe that there's absolutely no physical markers of what's causing her such severe pain.

Well, I would not want her to go to Korea and have a Plushenko situation or a bad performance that would haunt her. I'm just not one of those people who thinks the Olympics are the most important thing in the world, at least not in figure skating. Oftentimes, doing well at the Olys does not bode well for the career post-Olys anyway (unless you are more interested in commercial ventures than continuing in the sport).

The fed saw her bad performance, so how can that get worse? At least now they know it was due to actual injury, and won't just chalk it up to nerves and her being unreliable under pressure. They'll know there was a reason for this, and they may try to do something about it.

So I ran into this
http://tass.ru/sport/4699518

My Russian isn't that good but from what I understand she's resumed training. She was on ice, trained, jumped. Then something about pain that I don't understand? then that they're continuing with training for the next gp? If someone could be kind enough to give us the proper translation of Tsareva's words, thanks.

.... Goodness why are they doing this. Get her into physical therapy, this whole "train through the pain" thing has clearly proven ineffective.

I really hope they have her checked out anyway - even if they think she's fine, having an examination done as a precaution wouldn't do any harm. Surely they must see that? This really makes me anxious about her - though I do hope she IS fine, of course!

Hm...Has she done the full examination of her back yet? Still so worried about her health. Maybe it's an SI Joint issue that could be affected by hormonal changes. Well, I guess it's good that she has not lost motivation to continue training for Skate America, and I would love to see her again since I'm going to Skate America.
I think maybe she can roll back to her LP last year as Swan Lake really would not get her far and she's so uncomfortable skating to it right now. Since the music and the dress are also so similar to Kaetlyn's, and we all know the judges's preferences as Kaetlyn is clearly Canadian's No.1, I think that it just wouldn't be a smart move to keep this LP, even though I would love to see it in its full potential. I know last year's LP might bring her psychological trauma, but she had successfully performed it so many times and in general it was a successful program (favorite of mine among her competitive programs). It's probably way too late to get a new LP, but if she does, I wish it would be a tango! Maybe turn her "Tango in a Mad House" to a competitive one! It does not look like there are many tango programs this year, and I think it would really make her stand out. If she picks a warhorse, I hope it would be Dr. Zhivago, as her look right now really reminds me of Lara Antipova. I guess I'm not the only one who sees similarities here? :drama:
