Anna Pogorilaya

According to twitter user Chaki, Pogo-chan collaborated with Norimasa Fujisawa at the Kobe show. He sang Hoshi ni negai wo, I guess it's a japanese song? Or the japanese version of Wish upon a star, that's what it means. It was beautiful. What else do we expect, Anna always delivers something new!

Edit: Another user writes she wore a moss-green dress, and it was a very beautiful program!

Edit 2: I don't know if this was at the second performance (Anna seems to have two performances at FaoI) but her necklace broke and they had to search for parts of it on the ice. Funny, as Johnny Weir's necklace broke earlier as well....:laugh2:

Edit 3: It seems like the last program was Rise Like A Phoenix? At least the costume change was described like that on twitter.

Edit 4: Anna with two ensemble ladies! Probably the outfit for the ending number?

Japanese fans on twitter are overtaking each other with love confessions for Anna, beautiful, impressive, emotional, great. I'm so glad she was invited to two FaoI locations and got to skate 4 different programs. And now a program with a cat-theme. Anna, our cat person must've enjoyed that so much! I'm so glad she got so many shows, also Art on Ice and people are impressed by her performance abilities. At least the fans can see it.

Even if she doesn't make it to the Olympics I hope she gets invited again next year. I honestly didn't expect such an enthusiastic response, but I'm pleased. Sad she didn't get NHK this year, but perhaps she can return at Nagoya!

Ouch! Anastasia Martiusheva being described as merely an "ensemble lady". Like, this is a girl that has been runner up at Junior Worlds.

Just shows how times have changed... :disapp:

(As you can probably tell, I was a fan ;) )

I'm so sorry, CaroLiza_fan, I didn't want to insult Anastasia! I don't follow juniors, so I didn't know her name, but she IS an ensemble lady as she isn't skating solo and isn't headlining. :)

Don't worry. I was just messing about.

Ever since splitting with Rogonov and not being able to find a new partner, Anastasia has had a really successful career skating Singles in shows. For example, she does all of Plushenko's shows.

But, because she is not competing any more, a lot of people have forgotten about her. So, I was using your comment as an opportunity to remind readers about her.

So thank you, MaiKatze, for sharing with us this beautiful photo of 3 beautiful ladies!

By the way, does anybody know if the girl in the middle (Anastasia Tkacheva, who uploaded the photo) is anything to Ilya Tkachenko? (I am assuming that that these are the female and male forms of the same name).

No, it does not work like that in Russian. The female form of Tkachenko would also be Tkachenko, but the male form of Tkacheva would be Tkachev. So there is no reason to think that they are related.

Anna wore her old ex Dress of this season for Wish upon a star, which is obviously not moss-green...:slink: Twitter User used Katakana, so they couldn't have been a mix up with Green/blue how it sometimes happens, as it is the same kanji.

Liked the Rose better, but this was also great.

Thank you for the correction. You know, it's fascinating finding out the intricacies of how names work in different countries.

Getting back to Anna, and I just noticed that I forgot to reply to this comment:

Pogo-chan is back in Japan. This time in Kobe. The flowers are hydrangea, not only available in Japan. We have them here in Germany and I've seen them in the UK and on TV shows in America. Maybe they are not growing in Russia?

That hydrangea looks just like the one in my Granny's front garden! Oh, how I wish Anna was really in my hometown to meet my family... (if you catch my drift! ;) )

Edit: Just googled them, sorry for my lack of knowledge of all things botanic. They are indeed japanese/asian. So I guess they were imported to Europe at some point.

Wow! I would never have guessed that they were originally from Japan.

It's amazing what you can learn on a skating forum!

They also showed Rise Like a Phoenix. She fell, but other than that, great as always. The costume change is such a wow moment... would've loved to see the Anna Karenina program, to know if it's a possible SP/LP.....there are many televised versions of Rise Like A Phoenix out there..*sigh*

Finally a picture of Anna with Cat Ears emerges!!!

Voilá

(Including Anna, Gabriella, Akiko, Anastasia and....Ensemble Ladies - go name them all, CaroLiza_fan!)

Sorry, you've already picked out the only ones I recognise! :p

(But, when you say "Anastasia", do you mean Martyusheva or Tkacheva? Because they're both there...)

From looking at the tags, the girl beside Anna is Ksenia Korobkova, who was Daniel Gleichenhaus' Ice Dance partner a few years ago.

Here are Korobkova, Martyusheva and a girl I don't know with Jonny Weir in another photo that the uploader put up:

I know Anna isn't in it, but it was too priceless not to share!

In Niigata Evgenia skated to Hoshi ni negai wo as well, so she and Anna skated to the same music (as the musicians were the same, that was probably the easiest), but had different choreo. Weird, I don't understand why Anna couldn't be at Niigata. It's not like there is a rule, only 'one' russian girl, please. The opinions I read preferred Anna, but I don't know if these people have been to the other shows, and to be honest I only read tweets about Anna anyway, so I am also bringing a filtered opinion here.

Perhaps for similar reasons to why Medvedeva could not be in Makuhari and Kobe - that is, she had other things to do? In Evgenia's case, probably it was school/exams, but I think it's very likely that Anna had to resume training. Not all skaters want to spend so much time skating in shows in the summer before an Olympic season when they could be training/doing choreo for their Olympic programs/etc.

Also, while there is no rule that only one Russian female skate can be invited to a Japanese skating show, I think there are limits to how many skaters they can invite to one show altogether - after all, they have to pay to each skater. Plus, there also might be an overall idea about how many female/male skaters or pairs/ice dance teams they want to invite. And, even if you and some other people don't like Medvedeva that much, she is a double World champion and a star anyway, so of course Japanese organizers would want her in their show, even if it means they can't invite someone else to that show.

Anna went on holidays judging by the palmtree she posted on her Instagram, so it's not like she had something THAT urgent to do. I don't begrudge her that holiday and I am happy that she takes some time off in the off-season.

Whether I like/dislike Evgenia('s skating) has nothing to do with what I wrote and I never said she shouldn't have been invited to FaoI at all. :scratch2: Still this is Anna's fanfest/thread so of course it is written with the bias that Anna is a favourite. I was very clear about that.

A "filtered" opinion...aka your personal bias. The organizers can invite whoever they want and for whatever reasons they decide (the skater's personal schedule might be a factor, as well). Evgenia is the 2x world champ and she isn't appearing in every show. They can't invite every single skater to every show. Can't you just be happy that Anna was asked at all?
