Anna Pogorilaya

Esperanza seems like a great choice for her! Hope she can pull it together and get off to a fresh start this season and put last year's disappointments behind her. She is one of the people I'm looking forward to the most at Sk Canada. Go Queen Anna!

On a side note, it's interesting that Anna put "self-development" as one of her hobbies! http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00054344.htm
Maybe she has been reading books or doing some kinds of meditation or therapies to become stronger mentally by understanding herself better. Such an intelligent girl!

I will attend both Skate Canada and Skate America! Will try my best to cheer for her live!

hello there - so happy and excited for you and envious at the same time:), have fun and cheer loudly for Anna on my behalf!

I'm so nervous for Anna - I hope she'll do well, and if not that she puts it behind her quickly.
Seeing her live at the FS in Worlds just about killed me. I never want to see that again.
I didn't realize she withdrew from Russian test skates due to injury. Do we know she's recovered from whatever it was she had?

It was said to be an older injury, she already suffered from in the last season, which hurt again. I hope that it's not bothering her anymore and is fully healed or at least bearable now. I hope she's getting stronger instead of it pulling her down. I'm worried because as you see with Gracie, these ladies are extremely vulnerable on the ice and the pressure gets to your mind, and Anna, unfortunately, is a thinker. An overthinker. I read somewhere that most Ladies skaters get problems when they get older because that's when they've been in the sport a while and the pressure gets harder and you think more and more. It's not only the physical aspect. Unfortunately the best example of this is Elena Radionova. Sure, her jumps are not the same, because she's an adult now, but you can also see it in her face, the joy is rarely there, it seems like an exercise. If you've never failed before and suddenly don't make the podium anymore, this is a tough situation.

And amongst the Russian ladies, that pressure must be enormous. So much talent, one tiny misstep and there are a dozen ladies ready to take your place. :(
I wish her all the best in this Olympic season, and hope whatever injury she had, she's recovered from... or if not, that she will be able to let it heal, and focus on herself first.

I really do hope her jumps are there. If she's secure in her jumps and doesn't let one fall rattle her, she's fine. Unfortunately she's been only 8th at Russian Nationals before Sochi and there were only 2 spots. She could've medalled in Sochi, I'm positive. I think longevity like Anna has had in the past 4 years is something rare. She's been to all the Worlds and Europeans and while her 'compatriots' changed, she remained. And personally I'd rather watch a diversity of skaters from different school with different style than the same every time. Last season was her best season yet, and I would hate for that LP at Worlds, and it really was only the LP, to destroy that talent. Idk, I just enjoy skaters more that struggle and really go through highs and lows. She's the only skater I can think of that I never felt was 'gifted' anything. I can't wait to watch her programs this season, so I'm hoping there will be videos of her SP later today.

Out of all the top skaters, Anna is the one I worry about the most. She's sensitive and I think she was hurt mentally by what happened at World's.

Everybody would have, of course, but she always seems more affected by things than many others. It also sucked that it was the last competition she was in, so she had no more chance to regain some competition confidence for a good while.

I hope her team worked on helping her shrug off things a little better. It would be so great if, half a year from now, we're talking about Olympic medalist Anna Pogorilaya getting a dog or something happy like that.

I totally agree. And I do think that the bombing at Worlds partially happened because she felt that she was disadvantaged after short programme's score. I could see in her eyes disappointment.

Yes, I agree. She might have been angry and was probably frustrated. And then it crept into her performance.

She's a great skater, but her biggest enemy is herself (and now, I'm afraid, fed confidence in her consistency).

Honestly, with Anna's history of inconsistency, I've always wondered why she's stuck with her coach. She's got the talent and the expressiveness to be a consistently top lady, but even after her best season yet she ended up melting down at the end. It's clear she's got something mental she's gotta work through, and it really doesn't seem like Tsareva fully knows how to manage it.

Honestly I'm so nervous for Anna's upcoming competitions, because that girl needs to be seen on the olympic stage. Her skating style is so unique and expressive, it's just something I think needs to be presented to the world. I'm just so nervous if she has one bad skate, she'll start to sabotage herself. I hope she knows how many people are rooting for her, even when she's not at her best!

I totally agree, I just love Anna and will be heartbroken if she isn't at the Olympics.

Honestly, was expecting more out of the choreo for this, and she was lacking her usual fire, but I think the program has definite potential. And, most importantly, a clean skate!

Gorgeous! :luv17: A program with potential! For a first outing this was really good! YAY, can't wait for it to grow during the season!

Not bad! The music cut is not what I expected. Quite different from Marchei's and Chen's. She was really cautious which is normal as she is recovering from injury. I hope she will get into the program more next time, I want to see a fierce Anna, not scared and cautious!

I think it was obvious that she was trying not to fall. I expect that this will get better, and I think I saw something close to a smile in between. Still, with this SP she won't beat Osmond at SC though, who has skated her very strong SP over a year now.

I was surprised with the cut too, and the way they used the music. I was expecting the steps to be on the really fast intense part towards the end like she did with Scent of a Woman, and honestly felt like the powerful music at the end was wasted on the spins since spins aren't her strong suit. (Also that wobble on the beilman, I think her flexibility has gone down with injury and I kind of wish she would just stop at the haircutter, but that's just me)

Yes, she looked very insecure with her jumps, but hopefully she will improve as the season goes on. I must say, I'm a little worried - the competition this year is really tough. I hope she can get in better shape soon!
