Anna Pogorilaya

I think it was obvious that she was trying not to fall. I expect that this will get better, and I think I saw something close to a smile in between. Still, with this SP she won't beat Osmond at SC though, who has skated her very strong SP over a year now.

You're right, she was trying not to fall. Skating clean and looking strong is what matters the most for Anna now. Not only making a strong claim for olympic team but also for her gaining her confidence back! And this was a clean skate we can cheer for!:clapper:

I also think clean programs are the priority right now. Even if the jumps look a little tight, falls are more problematic than an insecure jump per se. She can continue to use more power during the season. To be honest, I expected worse as I read she had lost her jumps completely. She just looked very focused which is understandable at this point. And if she feels more secure she can concentrate on selling it better and the choreography, too. I'm glad that she participates at least at this competition before the GP, to calm herself. The thing I'm worried about is that Skate Canada is fairly soon. And she has to medal. Sure she could go to GPF if she is 4th but that puts the pressure of winning Skate America on her shoulders. Which is not good.
But before I get to happy, I just gotta wait for the LP. It's a different story all together.

Apparently she got a 69.80 for this SP. Anyone know where she was scoring in local competitions this time last year?

I don't know, it's still early to say but maybe it will be better for her not going to GPF. Skating clean or at least not bombing at her GP events can give her enough confidence even if she doesn't qualify to GPF. Plus the GPF will be really stressful this season, with all kind of political influences from every federation. Remember Anna lost some things in the past probably because she is Russian no.2 and her opponent is no.1 their country had that time. This time Anna might be treated even as Russian number 3 depending on Zagitova's results. Anyway, winning GP events and qualifying to GPF are too high targets for her to think about right now. She just needs to go there, skate clean and enjoy skating!

If she doesn't make the GPF but one of Sotskova/Radionova/Tuktamysheva/Tsurskaya does, she can forget the Olympics. I don't think she even has to medal at the GPF but her results have to be better than the results of the four mentioned. Sotskova is the biggest problem, imho. I think that she only got 4th place at Nationals last year was one of too many kicks into her confidence. And getting on the podium at Nationals with all these juniors in the mix will be very hard this year. So the GPF is crucial. All of this assuming Anna's wish is to go to the Olympics, of course. If it's just 'getting back on track' she can play it cool.

A little bit of tentativeness but that's to be expected at this point of the season. She'll be able to sell it better as she becomes more accustomed to the choreography. Love her costume. Practice hard Anna! She skates this Oct. 27 at Sk Can.

The Russians Anna has to face are Maria Sotskova at Skate Canada, and Polina Tsurskaya at Skate America. Maria is on form, and Polina also beat her today, her skating technically top notch. Argh, it's so tough. I look at the competition she has at her events and think "She can beat them all....she can do it." and then I think "No, she'll be buried and be out of the medals..." It's so tough to be a fan of someone that is close to brilliant and equally as close to disaster. Hmpf. At least Skate America is still far away.

I rewatched the program and I already like it better, there is so much potential. I thought until she messed up at the end the spins were pretty good as well. But that costume.....there are some things that bug me. First, I think the red skirt is too long. No big deal, this can be changed but it reminds me a bit of her Schehrazade dress that also had a long skirt. It's distracting. Then the golden part. It's hard to see it in a bad quality video but it looked to me like a flesh-coloured bustier with some golden elements, and it made her bust look strange. I just hope tomorrows swan lake will be better!

I really liked the program after watching it several times, too! This program can be perfect when she actually presents it like she did her last season's programs. And this was just the first time she skated it. I don't remember falling in love with her programs at the test skates last season, but then she took the GPs like a storm!

Haha, yes, sometimes watching something for the first time you don't see the good parts or you're concentrating on the things that didn't look so good. But when you rewatch and already know what's happening, you can concentrate on the subtler nuances and I think this is a really fiery program that fits Anna's character. My favourite SP will always be Bolero of 15/16 but perhaps this one is coming close. I think I like it better than last seasons. (Sorry Misha)

I don’t like this program for her. Her arms and posture are so distracting. Her best SP is still the one she did at Boston.

I really like her new SP! The music is enchanting and distinct as so far I think it's the only Spanish-themed program from top ladies this season? The dress reminds me of Kaitlyn Weaver's for Aranjuez. The red and gold are so regal and are the colors of the phoenix :drama:! The skirt flows really well on ice with her tremendous speed!

Her lutz is huge as she jumps really far, and I'm so glad that she was able to land it despite the axis was off and did the 3T, though under-rotated. I think it could have resulted in a Pogo splat in the past... I especially like the choreographic details such as the use of the kicking of the free leg on the exit of the loop and the use of the arms right after the first combination spin; both match the accent of the music and boost the transitions.

A little bit surprised that the step sequence is only level3, so as FCSp3(it looks like she was not able to do 8 rotations of the donut spins compared to last year's FCSp4). Her ending pose also looks a little bit awkward; her hands could be more flamenco-like. So there is definitely more work to be done on the program besides the jumps.

(Also that wobble on the beilman, I think her flexibility has gone down with injury and I kind of wish she would just stop at the haircutter, but that's just me)
I agree! Not sure if the old injury is related to her back. The billeman position really puts a lot of stress on the lower back, and it has given her pain in the past. It seems that it's not required to do a billeman in order to get LSp4 this year! She has gorgeous haircutter, and if she can do 8 rotations of haircutter (she currently does 5), she does not need the billeman to get level 4 (Polina Tsurskaya got LSp4 without billeman in the same competition).

Anyway, she's in a better state than I expected. I'm really happy to see her back in a reasonable form. Good luck for the FS! Can't wait to see her in less than two weeks

I'm really excited for Anna's FS!! We'll soon see her Swan Lake program. Hopefully she will skate clean and this will be a confidence booster for her. Go Anna you can do it!! :cheer2:
