Yeah, it has the look of Vegas: palm trees, parking lots, questionable architecture, pedestrian overpasses in places that would be unnecessary in other cities.

And also in the picture with the fan you can see the Skate America logo on the door behind them. Which kind of ruined the detective game for me. Anyhow, these pictures were not taken in Stockholm.

No, not at all; a figurative expression:
нахлынули волны - waves swept over (me)
(на меня) нахлынули эмоции - emotions flooded; etc. Anya just used it for the day off instead
