Anna Shcherbakova

tars, Everything you wrote is just,...... sounds silly. sorry... but it's.
It's really stupid to expect the same level of performance and the same shape after the injury. She missed 9 months of any competitions. It's a lot.
It will take time to catch up with her teammates. She needs to build her shape and confidence back. And it always takes time. TIME and a lot of competitions.
Have you ever wondered, if the injury must have happened in the first place? :confused2:
Because Anna had history of breaking bones before and Eteri had history of having pupils breaking bones as well.
Have you ever wondered, if the athlete's well-being is central in this miraculous "factory" as she calls it?
Because I have, many times.

These are legitimate questions to consider. At least, if you still care more about actual human beings propelling the school than the school itself. :ohwell:

Show me who doesn't?
Every single coach has a student who had an injury.
and every single skater did have an injury at least once.

And you don't need to be a skater to get injury..... You can break your leg/arm in a swimming pool.. fall from the stairs or on the street....

Figure skating.. and any pro-sport it's not about health at all... and never was.

Is 13yo junior really a pro though? :confused2:
The pro is usually an adult, money-earning individual, capable of recognizing the risks and sacrifices, that sport requires. The pro has usually the decent amount of information on these matters. Yet, ladies figure skating on 'quad' level is basically a virgin environment right now.
Nobody has really tried to do what Eteri's doing now. Nobody has ever really been there, nobody has analyzed and assessed such training process, nobody has supervised it. How could possibly 13yo kid do it?

This is one big experiment on young, living human bodies and minds.
Exciting and amazing, but also risky and frightening experiment.

The bonus just exists at Russian events for Junior skaters...maybe for Novice too. I think if they achieve level 4 on their spins they receive a bonus. I’m not 100% certain but I know it’s something designed to encourage hitting all of the levels on spins for the younger skaters.

Not only 4th level, they need +2 from every judge at least!

Anna needs to gain some muscles... she's terrible thin right now and that's not good as it makes her more injury prone and has less power in the jumps.
I know that a comparison with Med was made, but even she was more better built.

Sam and Yasmina, thank you for the explanation! :agree:

Personally, I can understand why they are rushing on to her to compete that much after her comeback. They are trying to rebuild her confidence and to train her nerves, to be able to deliver clean skates under pressure. Also, based on the fact that currently Trusova and Kostornaia are so far ahead from everybody, she has a lot of work in front of her. I think she is doing quite well, just as a comparison - Medvedeva was injured for 2-3 Months and there was a huge difference in terms of technic pre-and post injury. Anna was out of competitions and trainings for more than half of an year. I am even amazed that she has managed to maintain her artistry on a very good level. Recovering takes time, it is not just about healing the fractures but also regaining the stamina and it requires a lot of training. This is also a great test for her state of mind. She does need big support from her team. I mean, she (and all her teammates) are still children, they develop doubts and need psychological help to overcome such thing. They train every day back to back and see the difference, start to compare themselves and is all too much for their minds. I hope that Eteri and team do know how to face such challenges and provide the support and help their students need.

I'm not happy to write this, but I need to: if Eteri somehow "manages" to waste the physical talent of Anna's magnitude, I'll lose all the respect to her as a coach. Because she has everything there: time, resources, psychological comfort of having other team leaders and what's maybe most important - Anna's passion for the sport and no-nonsense attitude.

Week ago, I've read the interview of some experienced Russian national coach on sports.ru, saying openly that Zhenya's foot injury is caused by stress and undoubtfully a coaching mistake regarding training burden. Just saying. :scowl:

I am absolutely agree with you! All girls have got different bodies composition and need to train by thier own way.

So happy about her skate!

When she did the -3Lo combo I shouted "What?!" out loud because I totally was not expecting that!

finally, a clean FS. i checked all the jumps in slo mo and everything seems rotated

last year anna broke her arm in the pool, while being on christmas vacation. how this makes history and what eteri have to do with that?

Not only that, but the combo -3Lo also has peak rotation speed approximately equal to her 4T rotation speed from last season, so that helps with the concerns regarding her rotation speed, also!

Have I seen a fistpump?!!! :yahoo::gclap::dance3:
That was the cutest reaction! The tiniest little fistpump and then turning to look away as she starts smiling. So happy to see! Another thing I was super happy about was her bringing the 3Lutz entry back!

What a great day has this been, and the best thing is that she's likely only going to get better and better! That she actually would bring out the 3Lo combo and perform it successfully like that was so impressive! I had never even seen her doing that during warm ups. Will this also mean that she's going to add a 3Lo combo to her SP?

Specia skater  my favorite part is the step sequence
Do you think she’ll keep this free for next season?

No, I think she gets a new free. That's why it's a shame she couldn't compete in JGP or worlds or such... International audience would deserve to see this FS.

Let's just hope that her next FS is even better!

She got a level 3 in her stsq, an improvement from jr. nationals but still leaving room to improve her scores :)
molodiets Anya!

Of course it makes 'history'. Breaking a limb in non-extreme situation is even greater indication of being injury-prone, than breaking it in hard training. :confused2:

tars, did you say yesterday that Eteri wastes Anna's talent? :)
I've just expressed my worries, if she doesn't.
And I don't understand, how her good skate in some minor local competition contradicts the possibility of Anna having already three JGP medals, Russian junior podium and ticket to junior worlds, if she was healthy aka burdened less in trainings. :confused2:

Btw., look closely at 1:17 and that amazing hand gesture!
It's so quick and precise at the same time - she has exquisite coordination, that is innate - you can't really train or learn things like that.
