Anna Shcherbakova

dante - Yes, it's a great honor and shows that she is noticed and appreciated in the figure skating world, so I am really glad for her. Still, Elizaveta Nugumanova performed in some international shows, including one of the Japanese shows (I don't remember for sure, but I think it was Dreams on Ice too) even before debuting in juniors, so Anna is not quite so unique among young Russian girls. But we have reason enough to believe that her fate will be different than Nugumanova's who seemed to have a potential of a future star, but could not fix her jumps so that her technical content would match her performance abilities.

Did she? I can't find anything about this, more so before October 2015.

You know what I don't want to remind you, because reminding some things bring bad luck. :hopelessness:
Ignore me, I just needed to share, I'm half :yahoo: half :hpull: about this news.

Why can't we just put Anya in there and unpack day before first JGP?

Wow, with such an international debut, Anya is unique even by the standards of Eteri's history makers.
She would have had her dreams on ice debut a year ago already and was listed for it, but unfortunately...

I guess that's why I'm a bit worried about this even though I realize it's not rational. I really hope history won't be repeating itself.

Nugumanova debuted in juniors in the 2016/2017 season. Here is a video from Dreams on Ice in July 2016 - https://youtu.be/3dRoGuRMpDc. She also performed in Art on Ice even before that (Art on Ice is usually in February) - https://youtu.be/qTB5R_Ccack. And in 2014 she performed in Oberstdorf Gala in Germany - https://youtu.be/FtjgdPduvVs.

Actually, even though I really liked Elizaveta (not so much in 2014, though), I like Anna even more, so I am not posting this because I am some huge fan of Elizaveta. It's just for clarity and because you asked. Also, as I said, being invited to Dreams on Ice is still a huge honor for Anna, even if she is not really unique among Russian junior or pre-junior girls in that.

It’s confirmed that Anna will be part of DOI! There are only a few other non-Japanese skaters: Nathan Chen, Evgenia Medvedeva, Savchenko/Massot, and Virtue/Moir. That’s all. Anna being part of this list is pretty impressive! :)

I am so happy for Anna, she really deserves it :luv17: And I am happy for us too, cuz we will see her skating earlier than we thought (ofc if we will be lucky and videos will be posted on the internet...but a girl can hope, right?)

and she hasn't even debuted at junior competitions but already gets invite to the show :agree:

That is great but she only has about 6k followers on Insta. Liza Nugumanova had above 20k followers even before she made her JGP debut.

:laugh2: and what? Rippon has almost 2 times more followers than Plushenko https://twitter.com/tvolosozhar/status/995516480161628160 but they are even not comparable on the ice

Who cares, we are talking about juniors. And no-one has compared Liza and Anna on ice but only their pre JGP "well-known status" or whatever one wants to call it. The amount of Insta followers, when talking about juniors, does somewhat reflect on how well-known they are, or how interesting skaters they are to the general public. Even though I am pretty sure that Liza was way more active poster than what Anna is. And also, I rarely use VK, so, I don't know who was more known skater on VK before their JGP debut.

In any case, they both are special for sure but I find it very impressive that Liza skated shows even before she was JGP eligible, which is something Anna hasn't done, and that she had above 20k Insta followers even before her JGP debut.

Nugumanova had tons of appearances at shows, including some big ones during 2014-2015 winter, she even appeared on Eurosport and did such shows for a long time. She also was extremely active at that time even on facebook etc. Anna Shcherbakova's been injured and hasn't really been in the spotlight in such a manner.

I certainly don't agree that it's a reflection of how "interesting skaters they are to the general public". One had far more exposure.

In general... Using instagram followers as an indicator of something like this isn't very accurate. Anna's not been the most active instagram user, she actually only became somewhat active very recently. It's quite different from Nugumanova.

Anna Shcherbakova's been injured and hasn't really been in the spotlight in such a manner.

That is true of course and during that time Sasha got some of the exposure which would have gone to Anna if she wouldn't have been injured in the last two seasons but all this doesn't take anything away from Liza.

One had far more exposure.

Exposure needs to be earned.

It depends on one's priorities and opportunities and isn't always the case. Nugumanova had very frequent shows, Shcherbakova might not have such things prioritized as high.

What I don't get is why you don't just go talk about Nugumanova in her thread.
