Anna Shcherbakova

Just sort of well, though. It'd need to be poorly enough to not even earn one assignment for her to get knocked off the assignment. :agree:

That is not what I ment. The Fed can still change their mind and give her a later assignment if she doesn't do well enough at the test skate event. It is not uncommon at all that Fed will do changes after test skate. If they think she is not ready in late August then they can give her a few more weeks to get ready.

I guess that's true also... Hopefully she does very well, though.

And against Tarusina, Kalyan, and Yokoi — she will probably win. And then she’ll win the final

I wouldn't be so hasty in predictions. She can be rather unstable at times - especially considering that it will be her first int comp. On other hand Tarusina is disgustingly solid and stable. I am afraid that if Anya will finish the event even as second - there wouldn't be any chances for her to get secong event. Tl;dr being the first is always hard and from that angle maybe it's more dangerous than encouraging to skate seriously so soon.

Who knows how consistent she'll be... Anna Tarusina was very inconsistent and performed far worse than Shcherbakova after returning from injury, then the next season she's the most consistent skater. I guess before last season you'd have said that Anna Tarusina's an extremely inconsistent skater but that's not how it works.

Anna confirmed in an Instagram DM to user team_shcherbakova (you can see it on her Instagram story) that she will not be reusing Nocturne next season. Instead, she will have a new SP!

I’ll miss Nocturne, but I’m excited to see her new SP.

That's good to hear. It's natural because the layout would need to have been changed completely in order to accommodate the new rule changes. I'm looking forward to seeing what it is. Hoping for something very beautiful.

I’m hoping that it’s something very different from her Rondo Capriccioso FP! One thing I like about Anna’s skating is that she seems so versatile in terms of style. She pulled off her tango SP wonderfully, Sikuriadas was energetic and adorable, her Nocturne pretty ballet style was beautiful, and her Dreamcatcher was very mystical, intense and graceful at the same time. I hope Anna will be able to show off her versatility this coming season. With such a widespread range of styles she’s able to perform well to, it would be a bit of a waste if both of her 18-19 programs had the same vibe to them.

I had mixed feelings about her nocturne short, I thought it was a bit boring, but she still looked so beautiful. So I’m kinda glad she’s getting a new one, however that dress was so, so gorgeous. I can only hope she will use it for her new program, she didn’t wear it very long last season, i think it needs to be seen by more people!

Indeed. Rondo is quite powerful, fierce, even somewhat overwhelming. I would like the new short program to be something light, gentle, beautiful, soft, delicate. To create a bit of a contrast and show some variety. That's a style she certainly has shown she can do before. However, I also am open for something completely new for her. I think that something very experimental could also work for her, but perhaps the time for something like that isn't now. This is a very important season for her.

I might be reading too much into this, but it’s strange that Anna is listed as a confirmed entry for JGP Bratislava (Week 1), whereas for JGP Linz (Week 2), she is not even listed as a substitute (all the other ten girls who were listed as subs and as confirmed entries for Bratislava were listed as either entries or subs for Linz). She’s the only girl on Russia’s JGP team who isn’t listed for Linz.

What does that mean for her? Is it a good thing? Does it mean that the fed has confirmed that they want her to go to the first event in Bratislava, regardless of the results of test skates? Or could it mean something bad that I’m missing here?

(edit: sorry, when I said ‘confirmed entry’, I meant they’re entered and they aren’t listed as subs, not that we know anything for sure. Sorry!)

I'm afraid nothing has been confirmed so far, unfortunately.. At least she almost for sure got her spot which was the most important thing.. ;)

Well, the way I see it is that if Anna does well at the test skate event then she will get to keep the 1st JGP event but if she doesn't do well then the Fed will give her time to get top shape which means she will not skate at the 2nd event but maybe 3rd event or even 5th event. So, based on this there was no need to name her for the 2nd event and there is absolutely nothing to worry about at this point. And also, I am thinking that the Fed don't want Anna to skate against Alena or Sasha at this point and I am very sure that either Alena or Sasha will skate at the 2nd JGP event.

It means nothing except that the Russian fed is terrible about listing all the subs and always has been. For example, Atakhanova/Volodin are listed for the second event in pairs but are not even for the first.

If I'm not mistaken I see an influence of Kamila in the style of Anna, she's more energetic. It's a joy to look at.

It may be treated as:
- if she will be good enough at test skate 1st Event for her is guaranteed, so her second Event will be 3rd or later,
- if not - she does not pretend to 2nd Event too, maybe later Events when she will become better.
