Anna Shcherbakova

Sharing this among friends of Anna only 😇 :console:
Fancam version that shows Anna's full reaction and behavior after her recent Nationals Free skate (while they showed replays in the broadcast). @flanker previously posted a shorter version of this from instagram.

I am on record as hating seeing her sad, but am sharing this here because she shows incredible resilience here by composing herself entirely within like a minute. Her mental strength :dbana: is really an inspiration.

Whatever the naysayers say, I do believe Anna 100% deserves to go the Olympics. Sure, this bronze medal was what I'd call a reputation gift, and her free program performance was below her usual level. However this doesn't negate that she's a very realible competitor with a high scoring potential, with very smartly constructed and optimized layouts (she might struggle with her quad, however she is capable of performing 4 (!) difficult triple-triple combinations across the 2 programs), plus she has interesting programs and stellar musical interpretation, not to mention the best body of work among Russian women skaters in this quad. I completely believe in her that she will show at Europeans and at the Olympics that she deserves that spot. 💪

there is no girl comparable to her, probably, in the whole world. And it hurts so much to see her tears

I have great admiration for Anna, and my admiration becomes greater after her calm and smart answer to that question.

She deserves the medal, how strange some are to claim that her score should be below several juniors? Did they forget that people always complain about "mature" skating that is lacking in juniors? But now it does not matter anymore? Even stranger is the claim that she robbed other's Olympic spot. What can you say? This is the world we are in anyway.

I felt Anna's upset for not giving a better skating this time, I believe she will deliver in upcoming events. She had her 4F/4Lz and she will have them again, she will continue skating after this season, no doubt about it.

What an incredibly dumb question to ask. I really hope Anya will not suffer from all this toxicity after Nationals. And most importantly, that she will show on Euros that she belongs to Olympic team. :cheer:
The purpose of a question like that is nothing but humiliating the athlete, which is incredibly inappropriate at a press conference. Kudos to Anna, who answered that question composedly and with such dignity that gives her the mark of real class.

Most of the people at press conferences are hacks who are only looking to stir up controversy and get headlines.

I don't think it's the same people. Some people want to see emotional, musically intelligent, artistic skating combined with a high degree of technical excellence; i.e. balanced skating. Other people want to see only the highest degree of technical prowess rewarded most highly, apparently.

Sure, different people have different opinions/tastes/preferences, and I am talking about "balanced skating", which is probably how the judges scored the skaters in this competition, and rightly so. Anna definitely has more balanced skating than the juniors behind her. By how much? I don't know, and I have to let the professionals do their job. I guess I have to admit that Anna's reputation did help, but the same happens to all top skaters, domestically and internationally.

By the way, Adeliya did get a higher LP score, Sofia S got negative GOE for two of her quads, Sofia M got negative GOE for her solo 3A. Anna fell on her 4F, got -0.78 for her 3Lz+3Lo, but her BV is pretty high, and she got positive GOEs for all the other jumps. I think the judges did it right (I cannot prove it, because I am no expert. 🤣)

People who believe that Sofia M. should have beaten Anna are watching a different sport.

And what about the people who think that Sofia S. should have been above Anna?
Those people obey the forum guidelines and don't post these views in Anna's Fan Fest:
Fan Fests
The Fan Fest (FF) is a place for fans to celebrate and praise their favorite skaters—not a place to pick apart their technique, skills, etc. As always, be respectful to each other's threads when posting. Keep discussions in the respective threads and do not bring up other skaters with the intent to bash, debate, critique, and/or compare. Keep in mind that even fans of the same skater may hold a diverse array of viewpoints and thoughts.

You can make that case and I dont disagree but it's pretty much irrelevant because 3A finished in front of stasia 3 years ago and Stas went to worlds.

Junior girls getting held down at Russian nationals is normal. It doesn't make it right it's just the way it is and it happens in a lot of federations. These junior girls are the top ones anyway at senior Russian nationals were fantastic and have incredible futures it's incredible futures and we'll at some point push Ana sasha aliona and Liza out of the way. Did you notice I left the KaMissile out? ;) Good luck to any of the junior girls beating her in the next couple years.

I have much more problems with scoring in the men's event at Russian nationals. The outrage should be that Misha gets a second Olympics while Liza is still on the outside looking in. In fact we can make a case that the professor did not deserve any skaters on the Olympic team this season. But his political pull would not allow that. ;)

Even if Liza was placed ahead of Anya in this competition it would have been the 1st time she ever beat her and Anna always beats Liza pretty easily in their previous competitions head to head. Even if Anna falls on a quad and Liza hits her 3 a's there are many other ways and I can outscore Liza which is why she has always beaten her.

Anna fell on her quad at worlds yet comfortably beat Liza for the world championship. Thatdid that happen but where was the outrage? There was no outrage because everybody who knows the game knows that Anya can score points in more ways than any other ladies figure skater.

I am sorry Anna is going through these attacks and I hope it does not hurt her preparation for Europeans or the Olympics.

The comments of plushy one of the all time greats directed at Anya we're very disappointing. Cause I'm sure plushy never got the benefit of the doubt in any scores right?

We know plushy got robbed of the 2nd men's Olympic championship in Vancouver probably for political reasons. That always bothered me but there's no need for his comments about this girl who is defenseless and nobody comes to her defense unless its fans. Where all the big mouths at TT? Why can't they point out that Anya can score points in more ways than any lady in the world and that's what she does and that's what she does and that's what she did at nationals and that's what she did at worlds and the previous 3 nationals?

I don't get the toxicity in Russian figure skating and the Russian figure skating federation. Did the coach of Sasha Cohen ever go public about scores from another American Girl like Michelle or Tara or Sarah? I don't think so. Doe infighting and toxicity like this exist in Japan? I mean would one of the coaches there criticize 1 of their compatriots pupils publicly? I don't think so. You know what doesn't happen in Canada and France and Italy. But why Russia? It's completely insane and probably one of the reasons these girls get out at such a young age.
