Any Sasha updates?

^ I think figurejennah's point was that there was no reason for Sasha to flip off her fans who so looked forward to cheering her on in her two Grand Prix events. Back in June whern Sasha announced, with all appropriate hoopla, that she would do the Grand Prix, she certainly made a big deal of it then. And then again when she announced how fit and ready she was for Skate America. Now she is saying, "You fell for that malarky? More fool you."

As for the question about her competiton, I can cut her some slack for not addressing the "Nationals" part of the question, because of the lead-in about Korea. Still, Rachael Flatt has done a seven triple program with a triple-triple this season. Has Sasha?

Haha thank you, that's what I meant to say. :) I went to SA, and quite frankly, I was really looking forward to seeing Sasha's come back. Although I probably knew deep in my heart that she would not come, I still somehow wanted to believe that she would show up in SA. I was really greatly disappointed that she withdrew like that from both TEB and SA, and then reading her interview upset me I guess. :p (It actually made me feel stupid that I was looking forward
to seeing her at SA).

Oh, and by saying Sasha didn't mention any US ladies, I wasn't criticizing Sasha, but I was just saying that it's just a sad situation that there aren't many competitive US ladies. I was really hoping that Mirai or Alissa or Caroline would step up.

I think she said something nice about Mao and Korea/Yuna which you just read a few minutes ago. :)

Actually Sasha didn't........

EB: What is the strangest food you have eaten while traveling?

SC: That would probably be in Korea ... they have all kinds of bento boxes, with eel and pork bellies.

EB: So speaking of Korea, who would you say your biggest competition is in both the Nationals and the Olympics?

SC: I would say internationally, Japan has some amazing skaters, like Mao Asada. Of course, there is Canadian skater Joannie Rochette ... and then, yes, there is South Korea.

Sasha hates Korean food and doesn't know Yuna Kim's name!!!!!!!!!!
(You know I am totally joking, right? :p)

But anyway Sasha... how I wish you showed up at SA!!!

This is correct. Her team plays it up, gives her fans false hope, and then WD.

I once spent a few months in Finland and was amazed to see how much eel the Finns eat. Greasy, stinky, disgusting smoked eel washed down with a beer. And that is breakfast I am describing. ;)

But it is true that most of the girls are just as pretty as Laura and Kiira.
After a while I got used to kissing my girfriend goodbye in the morning and came to the conclusion that an eel breath kiss was tolerable when it came from such a cutie.

I am sure Sasha knows Yuna's name. Didn't she perform in Korea this summer?

It is pretty hard to spend time in Korea and not come across Yuna in an ad or a TV commercial. In fact I saw a picture of golfer Michelle Wie teeing off at a tournament in Korea. In the background but in her clear view was a huge billboard with Yuna on it. :)

I like most Asian cuisine and Thai is my current favorite. I eat Korean but don't like it as much as Chinese, Japanese or Vietnamese. But it is fair to say I have not ever had good Korean food so all it would take would be one good dining experience or even better, a good homecooked traditional meal to change my mind.

I enjoy Sasha's skating and really don't care what she likes to eat. I don't mind her interviews and find them only half as dumb as Johnn'ys and very polite compared to Patrick.

Back then when I was a child I couldn't get enough of smoked eel. Granted it's very greasy but I simply loved it.

If you think that is discusting you have, in all probability, not tried Icelandic Hákarl, have you?

No, I haven't had the privilige K :p

I did have homecooked bloedworst (blood sausage) in Rotterdam so I think I have had my share of delectable Euro delicacies ;)

Another one of my childhood favourites. (cooked liverwurst and bloodwurst and sauerkraut) Stop watering my mouth, Janetfan, please. :)

You didn't like it???

No, I did not

I do love saurkraut with a pork tenderloin roast and mashed potatos.

I love Czech dumplings!

and spatzle.

and I drink rootbeer every chance I get and like to play Hohner harmonicas in the bathtub. They also float and make good toy boats. Americans always soak them to get a bluesy sound.

I, too, am shocked Sasha said that about the GP events. She completely dismissed them as if it is okay to skip them, pull out, treat them like she is above them, and then be named to the Olympic Team. I hope the USFSA read that interview and are thinking twice about naming her to the Olympic team. What type of message would that send to skaters? Go ahead and skip GP events, make your OWN rules and you'll go to the Olympics. !!!!!! Miss Cohen better skate a clean 7 triple program with a 3/3 after all the time she has had to prepare and perfect her programs. If she is so above the GP events then she better walk the walk (or skate the skate) at Nationals.

Doesn't surprise me. But it does beg the question as to why she chose to sign up for them in the first place.

I don't think USFS will have to worry about putting her on the team anyway. (I just hope she doesn't have the gall to submit a petition!)

I think US Skating already has the petition and is holding it util further notice.
Something about an old obscure ruling that gives a returning Olympic medalist special consideration for the Natl Team.

I think P& G is taking care of it ;)

Wouldn't surprise me either! :cool::p

I wonder if they'd put her on the team if she petitioned? Even in her peak she couldn't put a clean LP together and never had a consistent 3/3. I can't imagine that she'd be able to skate better now, after 4 years off, then she was when she was in competitive shape. Stranger things have happened, but she might need to wake up an smell the coffee.

Sufferin' succotash! If she petitions to get on the team and can't deliver...it'll be like Tonya Harding in 1994 all over again. Remember how "well" Harding did after steamrolling over Michelle Kwan? Remember that awful picture with her foot up on the judges' table to show that her skate wasn't properly laced, so she got to wait it out, and forced poor Josee Chouinard to go on the ice early. Is that the kind of "performance" for which Sasha wishes to be remembered? I hope she has the grace to hold herself higher than that.

At her best, she's spectacular. But is she at her best? If she is, she'll win a place on the tiny team fair and square. If she isn't, shame on her for making things even more difficult for the team in a year when it's down.

I still have up on my wall a printout of a newspaper editorial from 2006, praising Michelle Kwan for seeing the writing on the wall and withdrawing the moment she knew that she couldn't skate in the competition at Torino. She petitioned her way onto the team, it's true, but only after the USFSA watched her skate and evaluated her condition. When her condition deteriorated, she immediately stood back and gave Emily Hughes the chance of a lifetime. In doing that, Kwan maintained her untarnished reputation, and her many fans can remember her career with straightforward delight. I only hope that we will be able to remember Cohen the same way.

If she did not take up the offer of doing the GP she would have had to start from scratch doing regionals, sectionals. Obviously she did not want to do that. So she said she would do the GP even if she knew she would withdraw. Now she got a automatic bye into nationals.

I really don't think Sasha would submit a petition for the olympic team if we have two top ladies at nationals who are age eligible and have at least some international experience. Now if by some odd twist of fate Laney Diggs and Danille Khale found their way as 1 and 2 at nationals (just saying) then Sasha would have a case. If it is any combination of Emily, Alissia, Caroline, Ashley, Racheal, Mirai, Bebe no way. She would have no case.

But wouldn't the Oly bye have kept her in Nationals, anyway? By your logic Kimmie Meissner would still have gotten to compete at Nats but her bye was only conditional on her doing the GPs.

I only hope that we will be able to remember Cohen the same way.

The pressure will certainly be on her to deliver (or step aside in a timely manner if she can't).

Dear Janetfan,

I know I told you I was totally joking. :p
I am sure Sasha knows of Yuna (though she referred to her as South Korea) I've seen her CMs on youtube, and dang
Yuna is everywhere in Korea. I confess that I am tempted
to try that bread she adertises though.... droool.

Oh, and I don't care if Sasha hates eel or not... lol~~~~
Just cuz I like eating Eel, I am not mentally hurt by her statement.
Btw, your eel morning breath story is quite shocking. I don't think
I could eat eel in the morning no matter how much I like it.... ugh.
It's like eating bloody porter house for breakfast! (Actually... steaks and eggs
taste really good after drinking............ meh)

No that's not right. Sasha didn't have to do any competitions at all this year. As a reigning Olympic Medalist she gets a bye to nationals, regardles of GP assignments or anything else. Her silver medal in Torino meant she can just turn up at nationals.

I really don't think Sasha would submit a petition for the olympic team if we have two top ladies at nationals who are age eligible and have at least some international experience. I don't think Sasha would submit a petition if she didn't skate at Nationals either, but it has nothing to do with anybody's placements (since i think she'd need to put the petition in before the skating no?). It would have to be about why she was too injured to skate at Nationals and how she will be fighting fit and in top condition a few weeks later to compete at the Olympics. That's it.

The USFSA have published the criteria that they intend to apply to the selection of the Olympic team. The first competition they look at is Nationals which has the strongest influencem, the next is the GPF. What that says to me is if a situation arises like you say with say Kahle and Diggs going 1 and 2, but e.g. Ashley gets the bronze, I think her participation in the GPF might get her onto the team.

I think it would be highly unlikely that the USFSA would conisder a petition from Sasha given that they would have to go back to 2006 to find any competitive records for her.

Ant
