Any Sasha updates?

Ah... what you're really saying is that she's not European. She definitely prettier than Carolina and as or prettier than Kiira and Laura.

Debatable. She's not tall and etheral like them though, I wonder if she finally looks older than 12 now that she's 25

Exactly...as I said before, true fans stand by the person through the good times AND the bad, through thick and thin. "Fair-weather" fans just hang around when everything's all smooth and the person is on top of the world. They'll turn on the person or look elsewhere when the going gets rough. Nothing wrong with either position, necessarily...I have been guilty of being a "fair-weather" fan of a few folks as well (mainly sports teams- not skaters)...
Aren't you a member at Sashafans.com???? I'm not. So are you a fan of Sasha's or not????

The "conspiracy theory" that Sasha might be held up at Nats even if she does not deserve to win is based on what if she skates poorly and still gets HUGE inflated PCS marks, is that fair? What if both Rachael and Ashley clearly outskate her, say they land 7 triples, with all Level 4's and their TES marks are WAY above Sasha yet Sasha's PCS marks are WAY above theirs so that she wins?

What if every single judge honestly believes that Sasha deserves higher PCS than Rachael and Ashley, and most fans agree with that.

Judges can't control the base mark, but they can control the GOEs. Suppose that on average their GOEs combined with the tech panels' calls give Rachael and Ashley much higher scores for jumps and Sasha much higher scores for non-jump elements, with the jump advantage for the younger girls large enough to give them TES marks "WAY above" Sasha's.

For some of the judges the PCS difference is larger than the TES difference (Sasha would get their first place "ordinal") and for some of the judges it's the other way around. Maybe there are also differences of opinion as to whether Rachael deserves higher scores than Ashley or vice versa.

Is that a conspiracy if Sasha ends up winning?

Would it be a (failed?) conspiracy if her PCS were much higher but the TES gap were too big and she ends up 3rd or lower?

Would it be a conspiracy if the exact same scenario took place only substitute the name "Alissa" or "Mirai" in place of "Sasha"?

How about if 6.0 judging were used and Sasha won with ordinals something like the following?

Sasha
1 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2
Rachael
2 1 1 1 1 3 3 3 3
Ashley
3 3 3 3 3 1 1 1 1

Yes, I am a member of Sashafans. No, I'm not a fan of hers. I am, however, a fan of LADIES SKATING.

On that topic, I'm a member of the MKF (Michelle Kwan Forum) as well. Incidentally, that was the first skating board I discovered, registered at, and posted in, a good few months before discovering GS. So...are you going to call me a "Kween" fan now?

Oh yeah, I forget to mention...I'm also a member of ISFF (Irina Slutskaya Fan Forum), the Yu-Na Kim Forum, the Sarah Hughes Fan Center, Fumie Suguri Forum (when that was around), the Kimmie Meissner Forum (I think that one is a thing of the past as well...). Just waiting for you to ask if I'm a fan of any of those skaters!

Nonsense. I'm registered at those boards so I can read them and get fan news and updates on those skaters. There are tidbits shared there that don't always make it to FSU and/or Golden Skate, you know.

So then you're a fan of Sasha, she is a lady skater.

I just find all of this extremely strange.

Awww, RD we know you are the founder of Kimmie Meissner's fanclub... I will expect my wedding invite the day you two make it official...:p

I've been a member of SashaFans for years - even during my more non-fan days - its fun to read, but I always refrained from posting unless I had a specific question because it seemed kinda rude to post if I wasn't a fan... that is why I like GS - I can have my personal fandom while still reading about other skaters that I either a) didn't consider or b) hadn't heard of...

I remember Joe was the first person who alerted me to Caroline and the Pearl.

General boards are helpful for the universal perspective that is lacking on fan-specific boards.

You keep commenting about what other people say, what is your opinion???

I like to consider other people's opinions and thoughts as well as the facts out there before I go blasting out my opinion.
And heck, this my second post. Am I expected to draw lines already?

But since you asked ...

I think Sasha is a beautiful skater. As much as I love Kim Yu-na, I simply cringe when I watch her do her spirals (and honestly I don't know much about the below the foot thing. I really love her spins and spirals. But I think other skaters have really nice spirals AND jumps. (i.e. Mao Asada)

I am skeptical of her comeback because we just haven't had much to base it on. But as I said, if she ends up on the team, I'm not going to go and whine about it.

I am not going to call you anything.

 Eh? You just did. :p

You can call me whatever you want, but that does not change the reality of the situation.

You know, I don't know whether to  , or :banging: at the thought of the M-word :p;)

.

Speaking of Joe - I remember he was the one who coined the phrase,
"Battle of The Flexibilties." :)

Of course that was about a possible competition that would feature Caroline and Sasha.

So Joe, if we see it next week who will win the flexibilty crown, Caroline or Sasha?

BTW, Mirai is no slouch herself when it comes to bendiness and would you let her in on this flexibilty battle too?

Red Dog, what is the reality????

The reality is that I do not want Cohen on the Olympic Team. Simple.

Now, if she gets there by out-skating the competition I'll accept it, as it's sport. But doesn't mean I have to like it.

^^^:rofl: boys... You just wait... the call dometic living will claim you one day... Sometimes I think I got married just because my husband likes to iron...

But back OT - let's give Sasha the benefit of the doubt. She still flutz, but all the other elements are equal to her previous levels. Where does she stack up a) in the US and b) internationally.

Take fandom out of it... This season we've seen the overall number of triples loose their importance but URs being hammered. We've also seen shady scores of subpar performances. From where I sit (at work, not working, being a slacker) I don't think ANYONE is a lock on a medal. Including Yuna, Mikki and Mao. So - where does that leave Sasha?

In the US, I think she has a good chance of winning. Internationally, I think she has a good chance at medaling. Why is this opinion right or wrong? Again, take fandom, anger, angst, and proposed conspiracies out of it because that's something we cannot control. Simple skating. Based on the usumption that Sasha is exactly where she was in 2006.

That in itself is a HUGE assumption IMHO. No knowing until after Nationals, really, where she stands...that is, if she completes both phases of the competition without WD.

Assuming she is EXACTLY where she was in 2006 and competes both phases of the competition. Play the game based on this critiria, nothing else.

Well, I would rather hear your opinion than others. How else are we going to get to know YOU!!!

No, none of us are asking you to draw the line but please let us know what you think.

By the way, Welcome!!!! As Mathman always says, post long & post often.

Thanks for the welcome!

Call me unpatriotic, but the comeback I'm loving is Shen and Zhao. I was close to tears when I watched their GPF skates. And who doesn't love seeing Yao Bin victory fists in the air?! Now there's a guy who stuck it in the long haul.

Anyway, back to Sasha.... I'll post more later!

May I offer a thought.........

With the exception of Yuna's TEB skate and Mao's skate at Natls I saw nothing this season that would scare an '06 Sasha, or Irina and Shiz for that matter.

Akiko winning Silver at Natls was nice to see as I thought she easily beat Miki at the GPF and at Natls.

Joannie, Caro, Laura, Alena, Rachael, Ashley, Alissa, - none of them showed me skating this season that would not be beatable by '06 Sasha, Irina or Shiz.

Others may disagree but I noticed all of the experts that tried to say how inferior Akiko's skating is have not said much since we actually saw fair judging at Japanese Natls.
