Any Sasha updates?

It's too bad Sasha didn't show up to Skate America. Given Yu-Na's skate, she might have actually won. That would have set her up as a serious contender for the Olympics.

Well, the important thing is that Sasha is fine now, 100% pain free, and able to train her heart out from now until Nationals. I just hope she doesn't suffer an unexpected relapse the day before Nationals.

Gosh, the way some of you carry on. :sheesh:

You act like Sasha's skating can't compare with what we have seen this season at the GP's.

2006 Sasha would have medaled at, or won most of this seasons events.

I know we may never see the old Sasha again - just as I doubt that we will see much skating as elegant and beautiful anytime soon.

But that's a big assumption.

Well, it is. I'll give you that one. Due to the inconsistent messages from her camp no one really knows what shape she's truly in.

I'm also wondering how you come to the conclusion that she "should" have skated at SA even if it meant hurting herself further and destroying her chances of getting to Nationals & the Olympics.

Once again, that was based on the "big assumption" I made earlier. IF she was truly injured, then of course she shouldn't compete. But to be magically 100% better only a few days after WDing from an event due to tendonitis? Now, I've never had that myself but that's not something that just disappears overnight, no? ILTS laid it out quite nicely already so I won't repeat what the inconsistencies are.

Assuming she's saying how she really feels instead of stirring the rumor pot some more. I'll believe it when I SEE it.

While I agree with you on certain points, I have to disagree on some of your assertions. ...

The "perfect" 7 triple program is a rare thing in skating, and I think we remember those performances so well because of our favorite skaters like Michelle who has won many titles by skating 7 triple performances. However, that's her. There have been plenty of medalists, even at the Worlds/nationals/olympics level who have not landed even 6 clean triples under the 6.0 system.

I think it's really easy to start pointing fingers at the new system, but I don't think that skating has been affected all too negatively by the system.

This isn't meant to be a vicious post, but I just wanted to put my opinions out there. :)

We will have to agree to disagree...but honey if you think your reply was vicious you really need to wait a month or two to see what a vicious post really looks like because yours is anything but!!;)

like i stated assumptions--yes-sasha is healthy and pain free now-so hopefully she will skate well and the talk about injury will cease.

She might have been painfree 5 weeks ago, but that does not mean that she was ready to compete. When she did have pain, whenever that was she could not train fully ( or at all). Honestly I can't wait for nationals sonwe can all stop asking will she or won't she and over analyzing everything that she does and says

i agree. what a wasted opportunity. she always seems to be injured lately, something or other flares up...etc. still, if she had competed and won, then that would have not only set her up well in the eyes of judges/fans, but would have boosted her confidence a lot against yuna, who is the 'top' skater at the moment.

it's too bad, very unfortunate, and maybe a sign of worse things to come?? whatever the case is, skipping out on SA did her no favors in her quest for an olympic medal, let alone gold. i wouldn't be surprised if she falters at nationals and 2 other skaters go instead. i'm definitely not getting my hopes up high.

a scoring system designed to raise the bar technically while making the results "more transparent" has not had a positive affect on ladies skating.

I'll say. And "more transparent" -- what a joke, right? When we now have secret scoring...

Where's the athletic celebration of combining technical superiority with artistic beauty? Does that need to be sacrificed on the alter of CoP? You can't even say the sport has moved on and the fans need to catch up. The sport has regressed and I refuse to believe skaters are well served if CoP requires an either / or approach.

QFT. The honeymoon is long over for CoP. Either they fix it, throw it out, or skating starts hemorraging more viewers and revenue.

In that case, at least she can say she tried.

that's true. i hope she can make it as this would be her last chance at an olympic games probably. it's not unheard of to continue until 2014, but she'd be 29..... not so farfetched and she'd most likely be healthier....

Well some skaters (like gymnasts) are staying in longer, and longer-well into their twenties and some even early thirties. I'm all for it as long as they're healthy, and having fun.

Now that we have seen all of the ladies' Grand Prix performances, I wonder if Sasha is kicking herself for not gritting it up and pushing through her injury

Actually, I wonder the opposite- if, after seeing how everyone else is doing, she feels she actually has a legit chance at an Oly medal (if she can get back to her former self)

If she pushed through, she could have broken down by Jan. or Feb. Of course, assuming she HAD an actual injury in the first place.

I was going based on what we saw two months ago-she was pretty darn flexible then! I thought the I-spin and spiral were even more hyperextended than usual. I know she was battling injury, but the jumps were small and unimpressive as well.
