Any Sasha updates?

Is it just me - or was Sasha always a little better dressed than Michelle?
I typically liked both of their dresses - but I would have to give a slight nod to Sasha.

That's because you're a boy... Michelle's dresses were elegant and understated. Sasha's dresses were more... exuberant... yeah, that's the word... you being on "the list" and all... we need to keep you calm...

   That and it gets so boring after the 400th post that she'll probably withdraw.

I don't know if you were here when Fetal Attraction would post. Even though he could get snarky his posts were creative and ultra amusing. You know the kind you read and spit coffee or beverage of choice all over the screen.

He adored Michelle but would make funny comments about her costume. Like the top of the blue one from 2003. He made the comment that it looked like someone threw a bowl of oatmeal at her.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Sorry I missed this particular ray of sunshine... too funny!!

I prefer more classy dresses, simple elegance, symmetry in designs...so Michelle always got the nod over Sasha from me...

I do like many of Michelle's dresses... but I liked the variety of Sasha's a bit more... of course I'm also the same age as Sasha and that may have something to do with it as well... neither one nailed it 100% of the time with their dresses, though, imho.

You have absolutely zero basis for criticizing even the worst Sasha Cohen fan. You are constantly hostile to Sasha and hostile to her fans. This is more of the same -- instead of condemning Sasha herself as you usually do, now you are condemning her fans directly. Different approach, same goal. You're an anti-Sasha troll and every post you make confirms this.

:clap::clap::rock::agree:

I can't believe I have been reading entire 10 pages posted, yet nothing new updated.:agree:
This shows that in either good or bad way, Sasha always bring attention to figure skating and all I need is to wait until her skating blades touch the ice on Spokane or not.

true...

maybe it's just the lull before the media storm... either way in a few days we'll find out one way or the other, and it'll generate buzz

Although I really liked some of Michelle's dresses (the "nude" one being one of my favorites along with the Sherezade one) I usually liked Sasha's better because they fit the music and the program so well, they were not just pretty dresses like some of Michelle's were. Especially in the last year or two Michelle changed outfits every event, often going back to previous seasons' looks so the "whole package" was kinda lost.

Except for Salome, I don't think that Michelle ever really tried to portray a character or to dress up in a way that matched the music. She did not try to be Tosca, she was Michelle Kwan skating to music from this opera.

Sasha, on the other hand, did try to get more in character -- like Juliet, for instance -- and her outfits were designed with that particular role in mind.

Salome, and Taj were her only LP character portrayal dresses. In the 1998 season Michelle renounced character portrayal, saying from now on she would just be herself. She was true to her word.

For those who think Michelle's The Feeling Begins dress was nude or beige, it wasn't. It's hard to tell in photos, but in person it's very pink/mauve with dark mauve and copper trim. It was stunning in person. I wasn't fond of Vera's "year of the straps" where Michelle skated in dark blue to The Feeling Begins at 2004 Nationals and had a costume malfunction. I didn't like the costume at all, and the malfunction is the reason she wore a previous year's costume at Worlds for her SP. Other than that, I can't recall an occassion where Michelle reused a costume in her later years, as has been indicated.

I think Sasha had some beautiful costumes and some I didn't care for. Her 2006 costumes were to die for. Michelle also had some I loved and some not so much.

BTW, Hi. I'm not really new. I'm one of those lurkers who really likes this forum and I decided to come out of hiding.

I'm glad you did! Welcome! Post often, post long! :agree:

I remeber for the 2004-5 season Michelle went back and forth between the dresses for Bolero and her exhibition, You Raise Me Up. She also wore the dress that she had used for Tosca at the 2003 Campbells for Bolero. I am pretty sure she used one of her East of Eden Dresses again.

As for charcher portryal, I am sorry Michelle never attempted one as a more mature skater. Salome remians my favorite program of hers and would love to have seen her really get into the charachter of Sheherezade or Tosca.

Welcome onto the screen, justabigfan! Your posts are already interesting. I lurked for quite a few years before surfacing, and it's much more fun to write one's views instead of just talking back at the screen.

I generally preferred Michelle's dresses to Sasha's because Michelle's usually had simpler lines, while Sasha's tended to be fussy or girlish sometimes. Also, and this is totally subjective, I wasn't always fond of Sasha's color choices, especially when she used yellow. Doesn't really matter; both ladies are such wonderful skaters, and each has her own kind of beauty--both visual and in terms of movement. Either one could skate in a leotard the way the earlier ladies did, and I'd still be transfixed.

How have the UR penalties on jumps gotten stricter since 2006? In 2006, underrotated jumps would automatically get at least -2 GOE in *addition* to being downgraded. Now, the -GOE is no longer mandated, and the judges aren't even told if the jump was downgraded, so skaters lose fewer points when they have UR's called.

Having said that, I do not know if Sasha has mastered the current step sequence and spin level requirements, which have changed each year since 2006.

Because UR penalties have become a point of empahsis with tech callers. In 2006, it had to be completely bald faced blatantly under rotated for the call to happen. Now, they replay it to death looking at minutiae in slo-mo before deciding on UR/clean for even slightly questionable jumps. There were skaters in 06 who had questionable landings that got a pass internationally. I am thinking specifically Kimmie M, Emily H, Yukari Nakano as examples of those that became a target when they defined UR more specifically. Not only that, but if the skater touches the free foot down simultaneously on the landing, it's pretty much getting a < these days (which Sasha has been known to do...)
Mao has had numerous issues on elements that used to get +GOEs and full credit (and they don't look THAT much worse than they did), and many others.

Generally, today's CoP doesn't allow much latitude when it comes to edge violations and URs.

Sasha two-footed several jumps in her Worlds 2006 SP and FS and was two-footing jumps fairly regularly on the SOI tour. Today, two-footed jumps have a good chance of getting <.

Which seems absurd to me. Double footed jumps may or may not be underroatted, as are one footed jumps. I remember when Johnny double footed the quad at the 2008 nationals they judged it as a downgraded when he really should have just gotten a negative GOE for the double foot. I thought then, as I do now that it was fully rotated.

Wanted to add this:

Is this the first time that Sasha will have worked with Lori Nichol? I think so.

Thanks, Tinymavy.
I also never heard her working with Lori, she was with TT, Morozov, Wilson in the past.

"I'm capable of doing a six or seven-triple program at nationals if I skate well. "

Wow, Sasha, no offense, but please do land them !!!!For the sake of fan like me, first of all, please really do compete.
