Any Sasha updates?

She surely sounds confident, but so does everybody else. So what one says doesn't count, it's the execution that counts. Good luck Sasha!

Now THAT's a real fan. Quite easy to separate the true fans from the "fair-weather" ones when the going gets tough, that's for sure

MK had PLENTY of MKFers stand by her even when she had to pull out of Torino, no matter how painful it was for them you didn't see any of them turn on her. It really surprised me that so many of Cohen's "fans" seemed to turn on her to the point where they seemingly resented her for "leading them on". That seems to me like "fair-weather fan" behavior. Ironically, it seems many of her true fans post elsewhere (i.e. here at GS), judging by the number of posters continuing to defend her day in and day out.

And then there's Kimmie- many of HER fans are sticking by her even when her career is all but over. That's admirable.

And note that there is a difference between true, devoted fan and over-the-top blind following (e.g. like Yuna Bots). I most respect the fans that don't feel the need to lash out every time they see a perceived slight towards their fave skater.

I have to comment on this (considering my username, ha). I personally am sick and tired of people "board dragging" (yes, that is what you are doing- taking what we have said on one board and talking about it on another) to slam SashaFans who are not as supportive of Sasha's comeback. Frankly, what we say on Sashafans stays on SashaFans and it is not fair to diss us on a different board. I am also sick of people assuming that just because we are skeptical of her skating at nationals that we are SashaHaters (tm). I think it makes us SashaRealists. So we believe that after 4 years of not competing, constantly saying "I'm coming back" but never starting to train, withdrawing from important prep competions means that it is unlikely that she will skate in nationals. How does that make us a hater? It is normal to think that perhaps maybe she will not skate and a lot of us are sick of seeing our hopes dashed all the time. I don't resent Sasha for "leading us on", but it bothers me that she has disappointed many people by saying she is going to skate and then never does. A lot of people have bought tickets to see her skate, were excited about it, and then were let down when she didn't skate. Trust me, I've been there (05 Skate America). After I found out that she wasn't going to compete, I went down in our basement and cried. It took me a while to decide to go to Skate America anyway, even though Sasha wasn't there.

As for the 2006 season, I remember being one of the people who really stuck by Sasha even after Olympics and even after Worlds. So not all of us are fair-weather fans. However, there are many of us who have had to "move on" in a sense after she left in 06, and have put her more in the back burner of our brains because we have found new favorites because she wasn't there anymore. Consequently, Sasha might not be as big a priority as she used to. I again fail to see how this makes us a hater.

Now, if Sasha does show up to Nationals I DO hope she will skate well. I don't hope she will fail.

Also, I will always credit Sasha with really bring me into this sport in 2003.

My comments on skating outfits..........anything but white. White blends into the ice too much. Michelle wore white when she used East of Eden as an exhibition and competitive skate. I mostly loved all of Michelle's and Sasha's clothes. The only one I recall of Michelle's that I didn't care for was the original dress she used when she skated EOE after her first world championship. (I had seen her sister wear it as well) It was orange and white, with what looked like petals flowing here and there over the dress. Very strange. I personally think that over-doing the dress to look too much like a costume can detract from the beauty of the skate. Less is more.................42

thanks for the link, tiny! finally something to talk about other than the "I'm a bigger/better fan that you are" talk. Which is not just juvenille, but redundant. *yawn* :sheesh:

I liked Ashley Wagner's take on the situation:
"I just think it's very, very hard to have your first competition be nationals, but you know, I'm not counting her out, she's still part of the equation. If she's there, she's there, if she's not, she's not. But I'm definitely not counting her out."

didn't realize the ladies competition starts on my birthday. Hope it's a good day for all of my favorites (Ashely, Alyssa... and if she really does compete: Sasha)

Especially in the last year or two Michelle changed outfits every event, often going back to previous seasons' looks so the "whole package" was kinda lost.
Not really sure what you are referring to here. She reused her purple dress for both Tosca and Bolero's debut at a Cheesefest, but other than that, we saw new dresses from Michelle. I liked the purple dress Sasha reused for a couple program debuts a few times as well. I think both of their purple dresses are among by faves of all time:

That was really more of a pale, pale pink than white, but yes, loved it:

Thought the dress from the year before fit the program/mood better though!

Which seems absurd to me. Double footed jumps may or may not be underroatted, as are one footed jumps. I remember when Johnny double footed the quad at the 2008 nationals they judged it as a downgraded when he really should have just gotten a negative GOE for the double foot. I thought then, as I do now that it was fully rotated.

When the free foot hits simultaneously to the landing foot (2 footed jump), the free foot tends to be 1/4 turn or so rotations behind what should be the sole landing foot due to the physics of how your body has to work to achieve rotation. The tech panel sees that and unless you are fully rotated on the landing foot, you will get a <

Hi everybody. Thank you for the warm welcome.

I remeber for the 2004-5 season Michelle went back and forth between the dresses for Bolero and her exhibition, You Raise Me Up. She also wore the dress that she had used for Tosca at the 2003 Campbells for Bolero. I am pretty sure she used one of her East of Eden Dresses again.

As for charcher portryal, I am sorry Michelle never attempted one as a more mature skater. Salome remians my favorite program of hers and would love to have seen her really get into the charachter of Sheherezade or Tosca.

Hi Tinymavy. Michelle wore a lovely light purple dress for her early season (Skate America) performance of Tosca where she stood in for Emily Highes. It caused MK fans to show up at Nationals with purple pom-poms. She wore the same dress the first time she did Bolero, and another dress for a cheesfest. Her real costumes were not ready yet both years. We all know what colors the Tosca and Bolero costumes she wore at Nationals and Worlds turned out to be. As far as exhibitions are concerned, I didn't follow the costumes that closely. I'm more of a competition watcher. Recycling an East of Eden dress would not surprise me. This program was used in so many variations throughout Michelle's eligible career. It was an exhibition at 1996 Worlds, a different version for the 11 Pro-Am's in the 98-99 season, and then it reappeared in 2001 as her SP. There were so many EOE dresses - it would be a waste not to use them again. (I liked the one she wore at Nationals in 2001 the best.)

I would also have loved to see Michelle do more character driven programs because she is so good at it, and I loved both Salome and Taj. I also loved Lyra Angelica, The Red Violin, Song of the Black Swan, Aranjuez and Tosca. Although music driven, as opposed to character driven, they were wonderful programs. My least fav. of her LP's were Scheherazade (never liked the music) and Bolero. (What music?) Still, who am I to give suggestions to the lady who won 9 National and 5 World Championships? Even today, I would fly anywhere and pay big $$ to see Michelle do a a character-driven long program. I think her maturity could only add to her ability to express the character. (Heck, I even liked her as Pocahontas when she was 15 (sp?).

You are right that Michelle wore the purple dress for the debut of "Tosca"...hence the purple pompoms at Nationals...but that was for the fall 2003 Cheesefest at Madison Square Garden. When she subbed for Sarah Hughes the year before (SA 2002), she used the gold dress she wore for her exhibition to "Fields of Gold" for her SP, and a yellow practice dress for the LP since her dresses she wore at Nats/Worlds were not ready.

I can think of a couple competition dresses Michelle has recycled on COI tour. She used the blue Aranjuez for "You Raise Me Up," and used both the purple "The Feeling Begins" and gold "Bolero" for "This Used to be My Playground." The skaters do so many stops when on tour that I'm sure they are ready to use other outfits when one gets dirty or needs to be repaired.

hmmmm michelle has dominated the thread even with the latest article/update...

sad.

Oops. My bad. Thank you so much. I remember that yellow dress clearly now. :) As I said before, with the exhibition costumes, I don't pay attention, so I'm sure you are correct.

I'm so sorry. I'll try to stay on topic. My thoughts on Sasha:

1. She will be at Nationals.
2. She will skate well in the SP, fair in the LP and make the team.
3. She will skate better at the Olympics where she will peak, but not likely medal. Who knows though. It could happen.

Good luck to Sasha and all the ladies at Nationals!

I bet Sasha wears a red dress, with long sleeves and yellow/orange designs for the SP. Or maybe black with red/yellow/orange designs...I guess I am thinking of her 1st Mal dress! I hope she keeps the dark blue dress she wore on tour doing MS, but my guess is that isn't flashy enough. I hope she stays away from white, gold and yellow dresses!

:laugh::laugh:

I know, right? Its taken a VERY long time for it to become all about Michelle and that is sad... all threads should be about :bow:Her Royal Skating Badness:bow:

:clap::clap::clap:

So now Sasha has yet another nickname? That's a pretty good one  . I just hope she doesn't wear another lowcut dress like she has in the past, no one needs to see that, and they are already all skating around in their underwear.

Mathman..........You and I know that Michelle could have worn a gunny sack and we wouldn't have cared.............. 42

Now, don't play with me... Sasha is a lot of things, but :bow:Her Royal Skating Badness:bow: is a name specifically and ONLY for the KWEEN! I will not have that highjacked...

As to the difference in fashion taste, my preference for Michelle's dresses is because they look like dresses and not costumes. Sasha's costumes were just that. This is probably why I am the only person who really dug Sasha's White Swan with the feathers dress by bagley and miska...

I think KW was referring to MK...

But I agree, I'm not too fond of those plunging necklines Sasha appears to love-her Rach dress would've been a fave of mine had it not been cut down to her bellybutton. Loved the collar scheme and the skirt.

Ooops my bad. A lot of people in Korea call Yuna "The Queen" or "Queen Yuna" though so I guess she stole Michelle's name? Not very cool

I am guilty on all counts - I liked Sasha's "costumes" but typically liked almost all of Michelle's "dresses."

And I like all of the SwanLake costume/dresses Sasha used for that program, but the all white was the most elegant.
