Any Sasha updates?

The reality is that I do not want Cohen on the Olympic Team. Simple.

Thanks for finally being honest. Next time just come out and say what you said above, instead of wasting people's time by pretending you have any objectivity. Likewise, the reality is that I do not want anyone who would make that kind of ridiculous, prejudiced statement about ANY skater on my screen, especially about Sasha in a Sasha thread. Welcome to ignore list and good day sir.

Just a thought... what happens if Sasha isn't sent to the Olympics, but gets a bid to Worlds or 4CC's instead, would she go, or is it Olympics or nothing?

Woo, an on-topic question.

As much as I'd love Sasha to skate at Worlds or whatever else, she's made it pretty clear that she only cares about the Olympics. I'm pretty sure she will hang up her competition skates after Vancouver one way or another. :(

Math, have you been drinking again and then posting???  I don't think there is any resemblance between the gorgeous Sophia and Miki.

But.....I bet she is as pretty as Silverlake22 though.

What is that supposed to mean?

And for the record I think Miki is really pretty, the best looking of all the Japanese ladies (except for Mao's sister, who doesn't really count)

I wish I was as pretty as Miki

Don't really see the resemblence to Loren though, maybe a little in the eyes but certainly their bodies are very different. Miki is skinny skinny almost to the point of Mao and Yuna you just can't tell because of those poofy russian costumes! http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/04D065I6BC4kB/340x.jpg
see what I mean?

Hey James R, I don't think there's any reason to get rude in a thread like this. Just because this is a thread about Sasha does not mean that only Sasha fans and supporters can voice their opinions. You're pretty much saying that people should not bother posting unless they voice complete admiration and support of Sasha. The title of this thread itself is "Any Sasha Updates." "Any." I personally think the different opinions presented in this thread have been interesting, even though I personally have not posted much. Please try to be open-minded. I really find your bitter comments unjustifiable.

That said, I'm a Sasha fan myself, but that does not mean I fully support her comeback. I would love love love to see her skate competitively again. But at the same time, I have mixed feelings about her potentially "taking a spot" from other skaters who have been on the scene, trying hard for several years, and have never been to Olympics. Of course, if Sasha makes the team fair and square with a stellar skate I would be more than happy and proud of her. However, my concern is that she might have inflated scores and make the team even if she skates worse than others, just because of her reputation. I get the feeling that a lot of people are feeling this way.

Please don't bite my head off.

Coming into a Sasha thread and saying "I don't WANT Sasha to make it to the Olympics" is rude. Flooding it with pages of "Kwan-sense" is rude. Implicating a skater in some kind of future judging scandal which hasn't even happened is rude. Board-dragging and indicting the entire Sasha fanbase (RD) is rude. Responding to all of those things is completely justified, whether you think the responses are rude or not.

You only see the rudeness you want to see.

I honestly don't see the things you've mentioned above as rude at all. I find them to be natural courses of discussion in any forum, figure skating or non- figure skating. First of all, it seems like you're taking every comment about Sasha personally, which is why you might find those things rude. But because this is a "discussion" forum, the things you've stated above are naturally part of the "discussion" that will allow people to voice "any" opinions on Sasha. What's rude to me is that you've been saying things about specific posters and saying that people are wrong for their honest feelings about Sasha's comeback and skating.

I feel bad that I'm having an argument in the middle of a thread so I'll try to stop. I'm actually embarrassed for arguing back like I'm in high school or something. But to be frank, it's not me who's blind to what's rude and what's not rude, and what's going on in this thread.

If you read the bulk of the posts from the last few years of several of the people in question, you'd understand their true motives.

And that's not rude at ALL.

Sigh... I rest my case. :sheesh: I'd appreciate a PM, James R, if you have more to say. Sorry for holding up the thread people.

I am not sure if you post some of this stuff during your dreams or if you are actually awake when you write it ;)

Please explain how Sasha can help USA at Worlds?

You just got done ripping her and telling us what a bad skater she is.
Why then do you want Sasha at Worlds?

:rock::clap:

I don't know how you do it.

I get dizzy reading some of that stuff, let alone try and make any sense out of it. :sheesh: I mean-I had no idea for example that the U.S. would be guaranteed 3 spots next year if Sasha would just deign to show up at Worlds.

I am all amazement that any of her detractors thought that much of her so-far unseen current skills, or that they would even want her to show up at all-on any competitive ice.

R.D. posted this in another thread. Take a look at NBC's Olympic schedule for Friday, February 26th. ( You may have to type in your zip code. )

http://www.nbcolympics.com/tv-listings/zone=ET/day=15/time=0/tv.html

Not only did Sasha compete at Nationals, but she made the Olympic team.

I think I smell a jury-rig in process.

Not just Sasha-but Rachael Flatt too.

I'm sure no rig is in place-who types those things up anyway? Look at how Emily as Sarah Hughes was crowned 2006 Olympic gold medallist in a photo cap. Still-that's pretty creepy. Downright disturbing actually. Like one of those spooky films where a person can see future events in the newspaper before they happen-and then they do.

Yep-don't feed the trolls. And isn't it bliss? ;)

I know it-but I'm clinging to the very thin dream that maybe (if she competes and makes the team) she would even consider 4CC's before the Games to get some much needed international judging feedback-highly unlikely I know. Even a less likely scenario than Cohen showing up at Worlds or dare I hope-even beyond in the GP's later this year.

One of the posters made the childish remark that Sasha would not get as high PCS scores internationally because she's 'not as pretty' as Caroline, etc. The same poster said Cohen jumps just 2 inches off the ice which is a ridiculous, totally obsurd exaggeration. I've seen Cohen jump in person-she's no Slutskaya but her jumps are adequate. When the same people constantly bash-not constructively criticize but BASH- a skater over and over again in the same thread with inflammatory comments, dragging the tone of said thread down, and the same people all but say they wish some thing will prevent her from making the team just because they don't like her-well that's trolling. Jmo.

Believe it or not, I've read all 106-ish pages of this thread in just over two months, and I think it's been pretty Sasha focused. The fact is that people detract from the discussion or have tangents. It happens.

This is from a new poster's perspective, but I would say while R.D. and others have clearly stated they're not fans of Sasha, I think it's uncalled for to say they do nothing but bash the girl. (Didn't you see R.D. U.S.Ladies report, that would've taken up at least 5 hours of potential bashing time. :chorus:)

Oh yeah, and that comment I just made, it's called satire and humor, which is what I took was the tone of those comments people are so offended by. I doubt the poster who wrote that Sasha isn't pretty enough to get good enough PCS scores or her jumps are just two inches high don't really believe that. And if they do, well...how does it impact Sasha? That goes for the MK comments as well.

She is making tons of money skating in Peptol Bismol and ice shows, so quite frankly I doubt she would worry about a bunch of comments made on some skating board. She's made it clear that she's confident in herself. She has been quoted as saying that she feels she measures up to the competition based on what's she watched on the GP.

This board is full of people who have virtually been friends though this board. And like good friends, they'll joke. They'll go on tangents. And finally, if the discussion gets out of hand you can bet that Mathman and the other mods will make sure it doesn't get out of control. (I should know, I got banned twice for trying to post legitimate links!)

But to make all you folks happy and not get flamed the hell out for saying the above sentences I will go back and say that no, I don't think Sasha would go to Worlds. But since it's in Torino, it would be nice for her to come back there and maybe win gold there. (And get three spots, ending any debate about taking away, waltzing, inflating, whatever words people have been mentioning in this thread!)

And by the way...

I just posted the 1,600 message! Do I get a medal or something for that?! (Not an Olympic one. A medal made with yogurt lids and paper clips will do. :))

Sorry I don't agree that my remarks are uncalled for-the same people go on to other sites and do the same exact thing over and over again and it's not just so-called Sasha fans who have noticed it-constructive criticism or a spirited debate is one thing but making inflammatory remarks over and over again against the same athlete in a thread about that athlete is the very definition of a troll. That is imo. I too have gone through this whole thread and eventually I had to put at least three people on ignore because to me they added nothing to this thread except Sasha-hate spiel. Some of it HAS been petty and immature-childish. So I have to wonder if certain posters are just that-children. I don't see how you can defend some of the remarks posted but to each his own. I just put them on Ignore and carry on.

I haven't been offended by any of your comments-so I don't understand the remark you made on satire and humor. You stated your opinion-and I've stated mine. Sure it doesn't impact Sasha but that's what these message boards are for isn't it? Discussion.

And I think these message boards have room for humor and satire. I made that point to express my belief that the Kween jokes, the "too ugly for good PCS" and other comments in this thread were said in jest. I know that not everyone has the same humor and yes we have to be sensitive to others feelings and such, but I think some people in nature just like to joke and sometimes it may come off offensive or childish. And I have faith in the mods that they will take care of things if things get out of control.

That said, does anyone have any info on what's she's wearing for her programs? Video footage of her practicing her lutz? As much as I like discussing the way people discuss, I wouldn't mind something new to discuss. Like if Sasha has a book deal for soy milk smoothies. Mmmmmmm smoothies!

Have these been posted anywhere yet?

Some Sasha tidbits.
(NY Times)
What Does Skating Need? Another Tonya Harding:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/15/sports/olympics/15longman.html

Sasha Cohen is scheduled to be here, but she has always been more vamp than victor. She’ll try to reach the Olympics on muscle memory. Very sore muscle memory. One can often find more sustained training for a Fourth of July hot dog eating contest.

USA Today
Figure skaters test their mettle at U.S. championships
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/olympics/vancouver/figureskating/2010-01-14-uschampionships_N.htm

"Anything is possible. It's kind of exciting," says 2006 Olympic silver medalist Sasha Cohen, who is scheduled to compete for the first time in almost four years.

Each skater's strategy of whether or not to attempt a quad, a jump as risky as it is rewarding, will be a compelling subplot to follow. "They're like playing a game of poker," Cohen says.

•Is Cohen really back?

Since she announced her comeback last May, the prevailing question among skating observers has been, "Has anyone seen Sasha skate?" The answer is no.

In November, she pulled out of Skate America days before the competition due to tendinitis in her right leg. Given her layoff, ample skepticism, even from her fellow skaters, is understandable.

As a result of the recent struggles for the U.S. women on the world stage, there are just two Olympic spots. Improbable as it seems, Cohen hopes to claim one of them.

Lol, I'm 18. And obviously it's just a joke but I'm always amazed at the scores Kiira, Laura, and Carolina pull off when they skate badly. Then I realized they all have one thing in common: good looks! So I like to joke and say PCS is about looks now because I no longer understand how the judges come to such scores. Goes for the men as well, Lysacek and Joubert always have huge PCS...wonder why ;)[/QUOT

Silverlake, here is PCS 101
speed, strength, edge quality and flow. Some of these can be summoned up in how well the skater feels the ice--do they bend their knees deeply, do their movements look effortless and graceful.
Choreography, covering the whole ice surface, spirals and connecting steps going in both directions and on both feet. Difficulty of connecting steps can play into presentation marks.
Expression--facial expression. feeling the music, skating to the mood of the music.
Depth of the program--is it a challenging mood to show and express, or is it simple. Do the moods change? Do the skater show versatility in their style.

AND MOST OF GOOD LOOKS --that goes to facial expression, so you are right in a way.:laugh:

See ! But I'm sorry to whoever I have offended, I am a very sarcastic person and am just joking about the whole PCS pretty thing. And about Sasha, I'm not a fan, but I meant those things about her jumps lightly, people say Caroline Zahng's jumps are 1 inch off the ground all the time and quite frankly Sasha's jumps are the same size, if not smaller. It's not bad it's just how they jump. I find Sasha a very amusing person and like to poke fun at her, but obviously I know she is an amazingly talented athlete, just one that I don't understand all the time. And I do think this whole comeback is a little shallow, trying to get another shot in the limelight when she hasn't really worked at it until very recently, but that's just how I see it. I didn't mean to be a troll.
