Any Sasha updates?

Prescinding from the whole question of trolls and Sasha-bashing (even though the latter is one of my personal pet peeves), I have a question: how is it possible that no one has seen Sasha training? She doesn't own a rink. Can she rent an entire rink for month after month so that she can train in privacy? Can she pay everyone to keep mum? I'm puzzled. Happy for her that she can train in secret, but puzzled.

This is a good point! Where are all the spies this season?!? I remember a time when we knew what color socks skaters wore to bed and now we can't even get on stinkin' square? Not one?!?

I think it's "gentlemen's agreement" at it's best. High level skaters train only on elite freestyle sessions, or given the clout of your coach (does it get any bigger than John Nicks!) you might get the ice to yourself for a bit or just share with another of your coaches elite skaters.

The only people who will likely see you train are you fellow skaters, and when you are world/Olympic calibre you will be highly respected by your peers/rink mates. I'm certain those people would rather cut off their arms than disloyally (is that even a word?) rat you out on a figure skating board. It would be fairly easy to work out who blabbed and no-one would want to be that person. Have you seen sasha's icy stare : http://trueslant.com/jenniferkirk/files/2009/09/sasha-olympics-300x200.jpg

(i couldn't find a good one like a real game-face during a programme look that i'm sure i've seen from her).

Coming into a Sasha thread and saying "I don't WANT Sasha to make it to the Olympics" is rude. Flooding it with pages of "Kwan-sense" is rude. Implicating a skater in some kind of future judging scandal which hasn't even happened is rude. Board-dragging and indicting the entire Sasha fanbase (RD) is rude. Responding to all of those things is completely justified, whether you think the responses are rude or not.

You only see the rudeness you want to see.

Yep! I see rudeness....right...over...this...sentenence!!!

Hey James R, I don't think there's any reason to get rude in a thread like this. Just because this is a thread about Sasha does not mean that only Sasha fans and supporters can voice their opinions. You're pretty much saying that people should not bother posting unless they voice complete admiration and support of Sasha. The title of this thread itself is "Any Sasha Updates." "Any." I personally think the different opinions presented in this thread have been interesting, even though I personally have not posted much. Please try to be open-minded. I really find your bitter comments unjustifiable.

Didn't you know we are only supposed to post what James feels is correct? He decides what's appropriate and what's appropriate not - I'm very over him.

Overreact much? Wow. I was simply pointing out that there are other areas of American skating to get excited about. I never told you who you could and could not cheer for! :sheesh:

Oh give me a break! It was a joke... And I am excited. And sometimes that makes me happy to poke and tease my fellow posters.

Yep-don't feed the trolls. And isn't it bliss? ;)

I always thought the definition of "troll" was a person who pops up out of nowhere to harass long term posters with vile, rude and silly comments designed specifically to upset and inflame... that sounds like a specific poster, but definately not RD... Red Dog is just cranky.

Believe it or not, I've read all 106-ish pages of this thread in just over two months, and I think it's been pretty Sasha focused. The fact is that people detract from the discussion or have tangents. It happens.

This is from a new poster's perspective, but I would say while R.D. and others have clearly stated they're not fans of Sasha, I think it's uncalled for to say they do nothing but bash the girl. (Didn't you see R.D. U.S.Ladies report, that would've taken up at least 5 hours of potential bashing time. :chorus:)

Oh yeah, and that comment I just made, it's called satire and humor, which is what I took was the tone of those comments people are so offended by. I doubt the poster who wrote that Sasha isn't pretty enough to get good enough PCS scores or her jumps are just two inches high don't really believe that. And if they do, well...how does it impact Sasha? That goes for the MK comments as well.

This board is full of people who have virtually been friends though this board. And like good friends, they'll joke. They'll go on tangents. And finally, if the discussion gets out of hand you can bet that Mathman and the other mods will make sure it doesn't get out of control. (I should know, I got banned twice for trying to post legitimate links!)

But to make all you folks happy and not get flamed the hell out for saying the above sentences I will go back and say that no, I don't think Sasha would go to Worlds. But since it's in Torino, it would be nice for her to come back there and maybe win gold there. (And get three spots, ending any debate about taking away, waltzing, inflating, whatever words people have been mentioning in this thread!)

Thanks Mrs. P for pointing out the obvious to our fellow posters... I'm tired of attempting to explain this to folks who've decided that we should step to their beat... its soo tiresome.

Haha I've definitely seen her give more 'icy' stares. That one looks more like an 'I'm jetlagged' stare or 'You bore me to death'.

It's one thing to have your fellow training mates not squeel on you; but what about the people that just randomly walk into the rink? I mean; I may not know much about figure skating rinks in the US, but here, the cafetaria almost always looks out on the ice. What happens to recreational skaters that go for a drink after a public session and just coincidentally sit in the cafetaria during a Sasha-session? Anyway; maybe things work differently in the US, I'm thinking of Belgian rinks, but we don't have elite skaters; except Kevin, but he doesn't have his own thread

All of Post #1600

Thanks, Mrs. P, for posting this and putting things in perspective. BTW, welcome to GS.

Well folks- congrats on transporting us right back to 2003...some just don't seem to understand that there is a DIFFERENCE between hating and wanting other skaters to have a chance. I don't hate Cohen, I simply think she's had her chance and I now wish for someone else to get that chance. She's well within the rules to go for it and if she wants to do that, more power to her. I'll simply cheer for someone else, that's all.

Well, let me revise something...I didn't hate Cohen- until some people came along and started bashing me for doing so. :p Oh, the irony, helping to turn people against your skater ;) (That was supposed to be a joke- but seriously...I have to wonder which party is bringing down the thread more...the supposed "haters" or those viciously complaining about "haters" and bashing them in return for "bashing" a skater?) Pretty good time machine you guys constructed here, that's for sure :chorus: Maybe we should all jump in and become young again.

There you go again! Now I had to look up the theological writings of Karl Rahner. (First I tried "translations of Carl Reiner," but all I found were a bunch of old scripts for the Dick Van Dyke Show. :) )

...which party is bringing down the thread more...

A curse on both y'all houses. This is what I wish people would do more of. Say what you have to say and then move on.

"Bashing" means persistent, repetitive, unremitting, excessive gratuitous criticism.

"Ad hominen attack" means...I will give an example.

Poster #1. I think Sasha is a bad skater and I don't like her.

On-topic response: Well, I think Sasha is a good skater and I do like her.

Ad hominem response: Poster #1, you are stupid and ugly and your mama dresses you funny.

Ad hominem response: Poster #1, you are stupid and ugly and your mama dresses you funny.

I like that line :)
If I use it in the future do I have to give you credit for it ;)

I remember the day gsrossano mentioned he stopped by the rink at lunchtime and that Sasha was not at practice

This set off attacks against Sasha until gsrossano finaly said it didn't mean anything. It was mentioned she could have gone to see Rafael that afternoon, she could have been in therapy, heck, this was the day after a holiday and there could have been family stuff going on. She could have been practicing that night, etc....

It was mentioned Mirai was not practicing either but there wasn't a single remark made about her. Just many negative remarks with no basis in truth all condeming Sasha because she wasn't at the rink at a certain random hour of the day.

I made a few remarks defending Sasha and in all honesty told a few posters that I thought their remarks were nonsense. I received many pms thanking me and apreciated them.

So please, no whining from the bullies who have gotten a taste of what they so gleefully dished out for a few months here.

I particularly thank KW who deserves much credit for keeping it civil here and doing more than her fair share of defending Sasha.

Another poster mentioned he hated Sasha now because of being attacked back for attacking her. Hard to argue with such logic

I have also noticed several die hard Kween fans who became surprised at finding themselves defending Sasha. So to bashers I say thanks for doing the impossible

A board is for exchanging views. Some people like to attack and others feel obligated to defend. I don't mind the bashers and don't mind defending or attacking them back either.

The other day one remark was made about Michelle here - and mathman was on it like a bear on honey. If mathman or other Michelle fans came across constant Michelle bashing we know how they would act and can guess what their resposnses would be like.

To expect Sasha fans to take continued attacks and not defend her or fight back seems incredible to me. But all of us must enjoy this to some exrent or we wouldn't be here.

I'm excited to see what Granny Cohen can do!

I am excited and curious to see how all of them will do.

I wonder the most about Mirai - and hope she does her best. But i hope they all do their best and that will make Natls more exciting and enjoyable for all of us.

And don't we already have a "granny" :)

Let's revisit quote of said poster:

Just Some Random Poster said:

Ok.

Not in the US!

And i'm excited for Mirai too, I lover her SP and she got one of the highest scores for the SP this season (I think like 6th), I bet she will do very well and get a big score for that. Her LP has also shown great improvement recently and I'm excited to see it next week!

I'm really interested to see how Caroline will fare, and Alissa as "reigning champ"

Whoa. Stop with the implication that I'm a rational grown up! I have a rep to protect around here...grrrrr;)

But I do agree with the above... Kwan fans are a muture group, but we do not tolerate foolishness of any kind. So watch your ps & qs... And don't try to rain on our parade! (KW does the Nationals happy dance:chorus::chorus::chorus:)

Isn't Alissa almost the same age as Sasha? If Alissa does decide to hang around after this season will she elegiable for grannyhood as well?
