Anyone Know What the Surprise Will Be Before Election?

Back in Reagan's day, he or his cronies, were able to convince the Ayatollah not to release the prisoners before election day. The Ayatollah released the prisoners on the day after election day. That was the major push for electing Reagan.

There is talk of what the Bush Campaign are planning just before the election. Some say it is to Drop Cheney (he's not liked by the far right Republicans), others say it is to Capture Osama (they know where he is and waiting for a few days before election day) The latter would really ensure Bush's reelection. Have you heard of any other surprises coming up?

Well, I've heard - from "unreliable sources" - that the weekend prior to the election a huge, huge stockpile of the dreaded weapons of massed destruction will be found outside of Baghdad. That would certainly to help, at least in part, to justify the US' going to war with Iraq.

It wouldn't surprise me that we "get" Osama shortly before the election. While I do hope that he is captured, if he turns up between now and the election, I will always wonder how convenient that was for Bush.

Especially since we should've had him a long time ago.

How about the Republicans dropping Cheney and Bush?

No chance of an extreme makeover situation here is there?

Sorry Joe, but I think the Ayatolla waited until inauguration day. The Reaganites always denied that they had made a deal with the Aytollah. But with or without a deal, the Iran hostage problem was a factor in the election.

Then again, maybe Ollie North and the Iran-Contra deal was set up then.

I personally would worry more about what surprises the Bushies have waited to spring after the election. Your recently "retired" military may suddenly find they are required to report for duty in Iraq. I don't even want to see what else those people have hidden up their sleeves. I hope Kerry is elected and we can get out of Iraq soon. I'd much rather plan for my son's college graduation that to continuously worry about when and if he is coming home.

Jo - The surprises from the Bushies, whatever they are, will as we all know be incomplete. Something like invading Iran and then wondering what to do with the ensuing resistance. They don't seem to be able to complete a job without the loss of thousands of innocent people and GIs.

I'm afraid for your son who may be drafted and, of course, will get no preferential treatment.

Joe

Wow, great minds think alike. My brother and I were just discussing that yesterday. I would think that we Americans are much smarter than that. I would be so angry if that were to happen.  I would hope that would work against them. Anyhow, just to add to the speculation, how about if gas prices went down to 79 cents?

Dee.............

Too late, Joe. He's already been backdoor drafted. He should be ending his enlistment in a few weeks. Instead, he has been told he will be held for two more years and will probably spend all that time in Iraq. And he is not alone. For example, his sgt. had put in his 20+ years and was at the end of HIS current enlistment. He was ready to hang it up. After all, in the past 15 years, he's been to Iraq (Gulf War), Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan and now back to Iraq. He was told he couldn't retire and he too went off to Iraq with my son and their unit. I don't even know if I've gotten all the sgt's call-ups in the past decade. Not what people were signing up for as reservists and guard.

My son just got back from a year call-up for Afghanistan in August 2003. Granted, because of regulations and the usual ridiculousness, he spent most of that time stateside at Ft. Bragg. (also granted, that made Mom very happy. Too much to hope for this time.) He was called again and back on active duty in June 2004. Their unit got to Iraq in September (and remember, those months BEFORE they hit the sandbox don't count toward their 365+ call-up.)

Units getting home lately have put 1 1/2 to 2 years on active duty abroad. I suspect that even the regulars are getting fed up.

And I surely hope to God that those idiots aren't planning to invade Iran. One, it's a bigger country. Two, it would be the third Islamic country we invaded in as many years. I guarantee the rest of the Islamic world won't take it. Including our so-called alies, liike the nuclear armed Pakistan.

But it would make sense to invade Iran. They have weapons of mass destruction.

WMD would be reason to go into Iran if Iran had oil too. But Iran does not have oil. Like Korea, we'll use diplomacy and besides we're too tied up at present.

Capture Osama? Do they have the Royal Canadian Mounties working for them?

Thier motto: "We always get our man!"
