Worlds Article

I think he was kind of harsh on Plushenko. I think Plushy is losing b/c he skated too much on his bum knee and he has to put his season in perspective. Plushy has a lot of titles and he's still young so he can put a bad season behind him. My concern is that he's not giving his body the opportunity to rest and he may blow his chances at a OGM.

I think it's a bit premature to think Plushenko has to worry about Weir. Have they ever competed together? Weir's never even been to Worlds before.

Don't think Plushenko has to worry about Weir who probably won't make the podium. But because of his knee, maybe some of the other men ie: Jobert, Sandue and Weiss could be close.

I think that Weiss is very right, in that the "favorite" in any given competition is not necessarily being handed the competition as long as they remain standing these days. That makes for some exciting sport.

I also think that the author is a little out of his league, in that he doesn't really know what he's talking about, saying that Plushy has reason to be worried about Weir. The kid still doesn't have a quad, does he? Weir was fantastic at the US Nationals, and is a very beautiful, smooth skater to watch. But realistically, CoP or 6.0 system, you need a quad to compete in the top men's senior level.

This is not Weir's year. From someone who has followed his skating career when he made that incredible debut at US Nat at the age of 15 (and should have won, imo), this year is to make his name on the international scene at the senior level. If Weir gets a top 5, I believe he will have suceeded in acomplishing his mark for the Olys. Less than a top 10 and the career will probably be over.

If Plush fails to get the gold, he should seriously consider doing something about the knee problem. the upcoming Worlds and then the Olys are his to lose.

I see nothing special in Joubert other than his good looks. All his 'tricks' are fine, but I can not see any discernable style in his skating. However, he has time to grow.

Klimkin and Lambiel, the only two I enjoy watching will be on podium if consistency holds up.

Micheael is Michael is Michael. Maybe is maybe is maybe.

OVER!? That's a bit of an exaggeration, don't you think? I hardly think that an entire career will be made or broken based on one World's performance. He will, by virtue of his win at Nats, be very visible next year on the GP series. He's got time to make his mark. Plenty of others worked their way up the international rankings--that is his job at this point. I hope he does just great!

I hope he does too, RG, and after reading your post, I realize I made too many off the cuff statements. Thanks for bring this up.

He will have to do something about his knee no matter what happens at Worlds. I can't see him trying to put it off until after February 2006. And I certainly hopes he does win Worlds this year because he is, IMO, so much better than any other eligible male skater right now and it would be a shame for him to not win. (I am not even a fan of his, but I know how good he is.)

ITA. I hope he wins this year and the 2006 too. After Yag retiring no perticular top ones being my fav. The ones I like don't have consistant quad. I think he deserves.

yes they have

IMHO, if the nerves hold up, I think Johnny is someone to be reckoned with. He has a quad, chose not to do it at Nationals and I thought that was very smart on his part. If Goebel and Weiss had landed theirs you would have seen his quad. Johnny's biggest obstacle is his nerves.

Joe, you need an old fashion trip to the wood shed!!! Bad Joe, bad.

Johnny is an incredible skater. He has flow and stroking second to none. I believe two strokes and he's across the ice. Three and he's on the boards. His aunt told me that he's not been near the boards since that fateful Nats in 2003.

IMO, a quad could give him a medal. Without a quad, and a clean skate would make him one of a few beautiful male skaters.

Thanks for sharing. :)
I think Johnny is an excellent skater who has it all--jumps, spins, stroking, presentation--you name it. His cool, collected, and calm additude will definantely help him at Worlds, yet I'm not sure about a win or even a medal. I think he should be rooting for a top 10 finish, possibly even a top 6. But you have Plushenko (who is by no means having his best season), Brian, Sandhu, Weiss, Klimkin, and so many other people. I do think he is plenty of potential and he is still so young, yet such a gorgeous skater.
